Predictions for Love Triangle in Clockwork Princess

well i think that Aloysius starkweather knows about what tessa really is and about the love triangle i know it aint going to be pretty either way one or the other is going to get hurt or hurt more
We have all been talking about Jem dying because in MI there is nobody with his last name however in the new series that will be coming later that takes place 5 years after TMI, it will feature some charaters from the other series but just cameos. We have the past with ID and present TMI and now the future with TDA (The Dark Artficies (I think) ... Main character is called Emma Carstairs and takes place in LA (Jem's last name anyone????) So there is a decendant with his last name after all..just not one in MI...huumm..So do you guys still think he dies?
I am begining to wonder if it is not Tessa that dies and it has been her ghost that has been seen or Tessa being pregnant and then something happening to Jem....Any thoughts???
Jem doesnt neccessarily have to be the one to carry on the family name. There could be other family members of his that we do not know of. I still hold to the prediction that he will die in CP2.

I think it is possible for him to still die but it makes me wonder if him and Tessa has a child (or is pregnant) Jem dies one way or the other and Will comes in to help raise the child and eventually ending up with Tessa and another by Will that would have both names living on. As I said just a thought...
@Dana...i've had those thoughts too...Tessa having children with both men...i guess we'll see how it all plays out...@Dannielle...there's a part of me that also believes that there is someone else out there with the last name carstairs and that cassie clare has announced the new series and the last name as kind of a red herring, to keep readers from figuring out what happens in ID...

So-oo-ooo many ways for this to end bring on the books ...I can't wait this is torture just thinking of what could be..and your right it may be a red herring ..I don't remember what it said about Jems family to save my life...I will have to go back and look

I have a theory (that it's a demon. A dancing demon - no, something isn't right there.) Okay, if any of you witnessed ^THAT^ I can only apologise. Every time I say 'I have a theory' I always break into that song from the Buffy Musical episode. Please somebody tell me I'm not the only one. Please? ;pAnyway...I do indeed have a theory about the end of the love triangle. Now I am Team Jem, but before any Will fans attack me with their words or something a little sharper, I'd just like to say that I also have a soft spot for Will and his relationship with Tessa. So although I care for both ships. I ship Jem/Tessa HARDER. And also, you should know that my Jem preferences have in no way influenced my theory, I just happen to think that THIS> might be a plausible thing to happen: - Okay, so obviously, we all think Jem will die. We've expected it since Chapter 1 of the first book, b/c we've been told he's dying. Too predictable, no? Especially for CC. She LOVES her twists! Killing off the guy who is dying is pretty much what we are all expecting. I have a feeling he will NOT die. He may find out about Tessa/Will and might call off the wedding, b/c he's too good natured to allow Tessa to marry him when she also loves somebody else at the same time, somebody Jem also cares for...although I'm not sure what the specifics will be to that situation. Anything could happen in regards to the wedding or the love lives of the 3 leads in CP2. BUT, I do believe, for some reason, that Tessa/Jem will be endgame. CC has said that who Tess chooses will surprise us. Everybody is expecting her to run back into Will's arms, because he's the archetypal YA fiction romantic lead. It seemed obvious from day 1 that she was 'meant' for him. Of course, that was BEFORE Jem, so things are a little more complicated now, but most people are expecting this to happen, even the Jem/Tessa fans. Again, we're expecting this so it wouldn't be surprising. The surprising choice would be Jem since most people assume he is just an obstacle for Will/Tessa and obstacles always somehow get removed in the end. (I, for one, do NOT believe this obstacle theory). So if Tessa's choice is going to surprise us, I'd bet on her picking Jem in the end. Or Will dying, leaving Jem and Tessa to be together. Either way, I think she'll end up with Jem. ALSO, in TMI, Church the cat is in the New York institute isn't he? CC says somebody obviously takes him over there. Many people assume it is one of the Lightwoods since they end up running the New York institute in TMI. But, isn't Jem the ONLY one Church will go to? He hates everybody else. He probably wouldn't even budge for them if they tried to take him, and I doubt any of the others, besides Jem, would want to take him anyway. Also, Tessa comes from New York, so perhaps she goes back there, because she wants to go home after the events of CP2, and Jem goes with her, and takes Church.
Just an idea.
Of course, even though I'm Team Jem I don't want Will to die. I love him! But we know a major character dies right? And Jem would be too predictable. Will dying gives us a way out of the love triangle and a surprising turn of events in regards to both the love triangle and the 'death' spoiler.
just a side note about church...i always found it kind of interesting that he only liked Jem in ID, and then he seems to be more Jace's cat in MI...

It's been a while since I read the TMI books. Hmmm. What could it mean? I wonder if there IS a hidden meaning we're supposed to glean from this, or if it's just a coincidence that Church is Jem's cat in ID and then the decendant of Will's (who he seems to despise) a hundred years later. Both names get past down Carstairs and Herondales and since most women give thier child the last name of thier father I wouldn't think the Herondale name being passed by Will's sister..I think there is gonna be a huge shocking twist that we don't see coming...and I don't think the wedding happens as Cassandra's tumbler spoiler was talking about the gold of her RUINED wedding dress..posted the link on the "slap Tess page" if your curious..
I LOVE will so much. Everything about him I adore. Jem i like too but not as much as Will. When i found out him and Tessa were getting married i was about to scream!!!! No sorry i DID scream and I almost through the book. I cant believe it. I do think something will happen to make Jem leave her and then Will, will come to the rescue- hopefully.

I will cry so hard if Clare has Jem die. He is my fav character and Tessa is perfect with him. Honestly will kinds is a jerk. And yes I understand the whole curse thing thank you very much. But Jem is just so sweet and kind and understanding and the whole "I'm gonna die soon hint is way sexy".

the tale of two citys have been mention in both TID book and theres a love triangle there. im asuming TID will end like the tale of to cites one of the guys will die and the girl will end up with one. it makes sense! why else would cassie mention the story soo much. TID will end like it! the girl must chose one man no matter wat and one will die...

I wouldn't be shocked if she ended up with Jem or Will. But it would be more of a shock if she ended up with no one. Then there is the question of her mortality so maybe she'll put that into consideration and leave them be or maybe she won't come between their friendship.
So many possibilities! haha

Has anyone considered that there may be other Herondales out there other than Will, Cecily, and their parents? Will's father cut all family connections because he married a mortal. He might have had brothers or other relatives. Therefore, Will does not necessarily have to be alive for Jace to exist.

This isn't exactly about the love triangle, but I suddenly got this idea and had to share with the other readers of the Infernal Devices. Do you think that Tessa might have gone through similar experiences as those of Jonathan Morgenstern (the real one) in TMI? He was part demon and part shadowhunter, and they never really said anything about actual marks except for his eyes. If her mother really was a shadowhunter, it would make sense.

I've read all these comments, and yet some things are still not clear. Will and Jem both have desendents with there name. Jace is a Herondale and Emma from CC upcoming series is a Carstairs. I believe Tessa dies. I HATE that I think that because I want nothing more than for her to end up with Will and for Jem to still be happy(not die) and find someone else to love. CC said the ending would be bittersweet and she would end it as is fitting to the series, but she has always refrained from saying happy. I think Tessa is a ghost in City of Glass. The white outfit, the way they describe her hair. I do not know why CC suggests their is a reason for the similarities between Tessa last name and Clary's fake last name, but I do not believe Tessa isn't going to end up with either Will or Jem and that in itself makes me want blow my head off. Maybe shes dies but is still a ghost that has powers or something. Maybe thats why shes immortal. I have never longed and stressed about a book more than CP2. I'm afraid I may never be happy again if she lets the ending be as trageic as I predict.

its an amazing idea... but I get teary just thinking about it, if I read about it then.. I'm a big Will+Tessa fan but I don't want Jem to get hurt :(
and yeah I like the idea of Cecily and Jem,but isn't Cecily a little too young for him, how old is she?
I think she's fifteen. I don't think that is that big of an age difference, especially back then.
*SPOILER* To start off with, I do not think Jem will die. My reason being, Cassandra Clare states that in her tentatively new series, The Dark Artifices, the main character's surname is "Carstairs." So, unless Jem is not the only Carstairs out there, he cannot die. I am so Team Jem, but that scene with Will and Tessa at the end was heartbreaking! I want them all to be happy, but I do not want Jem to end up with Cecily. I hate it when there's a huge romance between two characters, and then it all of a sudden breaks off and they fall for someone else. I feel like the romance was superfluous. I love Gideon and Sophie, so I think she has finally gotten over Jem. I don't think there is any possiblity that either Jem or Will will stop loving Tessa. I think she either will end up with one of them or she just won't choose at the end. Even if Jem were to die (fights the urge to sob)I think Tessa would feel too guilty being with Will. She either has to end up with Jem, Will with Jem's blessing, or with neither of them.
I wonder if Mortmain has anything to do with the snippet "What was your name when you where an angel?" He has some powers showing he's not all human, and he's always 10 steps ahead of them. Could his parents adopted him knowing he was a fallen angel????????

i think will is going to die then jem because cassie has said the series will have a very final ending and i think its going to be a real tear jerker. also she's said that we'll find out what happens when one parabatai dies so it pretty clear that at least one will die. I think we're going to need a box of tissues whatever happens

So not matter who she ends up with they are going to die before her. Jem from his disease and Will from old age. i have an awful feeling this mite not be a happy ending.
Also it seems all the ID characters are somehow related to the MI characters. Tessa doesnt seem to have a descendant nor does Jem. Will reminds me of Jace.

I too believe that Will and Tessa are going to end up together, no matter what. I guess I could consider myself "Team Jem" as I find him a more likable character (and ever so charming, respectful, romantic, etc, etc.) but there's just not much keeping him that way. Tessa's proven already that she's willing to kiss both boys behind their back and there's always "that feeling" she'll have for Will. Plus Jem's not going to stay alive much longer anyway. :( and someone has to carry on the Herondale name. So I predict that perhaps Jem and Tessa might choose to get married and whatnot, but he'll pass away. And Tessa may finally get to be with Will.

I really want Tessa/Jem to stay together. Maybe they could find a way to save him. Jace was brought back to life, why couldn't Jem?
I think Will is going to sacrifice himself to save Jem, Jem and Tessa end up together, and the angel brings Will back to life (why he has the Herondale mark) and he decides to be a Silent Brother to watch over his family (Cecily and her kids) in a way he couldn't before. Silent brothers aren't allowed to marry or have children. Like jedi.
I like your theory (Bonnie)! Here's my question though: if that's how Will gets the Herondale mark, how then would he pass it down to his offspring if he isn't the one having the biological children? I think that Jem is the one who becomes the Silent Brother to watch over Will's family.

That's true. I forgot that the first person with the mark had children. Hmmm well Jem becoming Brother Zachariah is definitely a possiblity. But Tessa can't have children so who would Will have kids with? I like the idea of Will and Tatiana Lightwood since that would mean that Alec and Jace have a common ancestor, and Cassandra Clare said that Alec looking like Will is significant. But isn't Tatiana married?I should reread the books
I love Jem and i really want him to stay with Tessa but i fear he might die; and she'll go with Will. I understand that he has to be happy too now that he can express what he really feels, but i want Jem to be with her, not Will :(

Agreed. The love Jem has for Tessa isnt something he can just throw away. If Tessa were to ever leave Jem, he would be a broken soul. Jem & Cecily in my opinion, won't be happenning. Jem will die to uncomplicate things,( which will further complicate the relationship between Will & Tessa.) I can just predict that at one point in CP2 she is going to have a weak moment and end up kissing Will... which only further shows how confused she is.
