William Mego (willmego) I know it seems sudden, but in a few days we'll have selected two books, so:

#1: what do you think about how long to schedule the read for them?
#2: Do you want to start reading each at the same time, or stagger it by a couple weeks?
#3: How long do we want to generally have announced the next book before we begin reading for February and later months?
#4: ..which leads to that if we wanted say 1-2 weeks for the above question, and a week or more for the poll itself to be up, and a week or more for people to be able to nominate something FOR the poll, that means we should start thinking about beginning that process the first week of January or earlier depending on what your thoughts are on each of those numbers.

William Mego (willmego) Having posed the questions, it would be useless of me to do so without having thrown my 2 cents in I guess, so here are my suggestions (but I'm open to anything):

#1: A month each?
#2: Honestly can't decide.
#3: 2 weeks notice?
#4: 1 week each for nomination and poll, leaving two weeks notice for people to get it, so next nomination begins first week of January.

And of course, I think the period of time we read should take into account how long or short (or difficult) the book is considered to be, but wondering what people's thoughts were in general. I have no objection even to very long periods of time if people desire that.

Sophia Roberts | 1324 comments I would like two weeks' notice (it can take that long to borrow a book from the library) and thereafter a month to read same seems reasonable.

Jenny (jeoblivion) #1 I'd say let's try a month each (unless the book is extremely short or long), maybe we can come back to this question after we tried it and see whether people feel that it is too much (we can even have a poll for that ;))

#2 staggering by a few weeks, but I am fine either way

#3 2 weeks notice at least

#4 A week for nominating and one for poll seems enough to me , maybe there could be a "the poll is open now" message for members,so we'd avoid people missing it.

A full month.

#2:
Same time. Let people decide if they want to personally stagger or read simultaneously. Especially because we may run into situation like someone just HATES a book we're reading and can't bear to go on, or someone's read one, or someone forgets one at home and find they have the other with them or whatever. 2 books, one month and you work it out for yourself.

#3:
Two weeks.

#4:
We should be nominating for Feb last week of December and first week of January.

Logophile | 41 comments #1: A month for each book, with the option of taking longer for extra long books.

#2: Tough one. My initial thought was that staggering them could be nice, but Deborah has a good point. I hate "sitting out" if I don't want to or can't read the current selection. On the other hand, if we're constantly staggering by two weeks, and you read only one of the two, with any luck you'll still be on a book a month schedule, either the first half or last half of the month. So count this vote however you will!

#3: Two weeks' notice

#4: I think what Will & Jenny et al. have suggested is good. We could have the first week in the month for nominations for the next month's book, the second week for the poll, and then two weeks to find it & start reading if desired. (BTW, I think there's a way to display both the "currently reading" and "up next" choices for the group.)

It automatically displays when you set either.
