Since our local symphony is performing all of Brahm's symphonies this year, I decided to read a biography of the man

I've gotten back to
. As I haven't been reading, this had sat on my bedside table for 6 months with only a chapter read.
I've gone back to page one and started it again.
Really like Christian's writing. Liked it in book one. Liking it in book two.
I gave up on The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights - too episodic for my liking.I started Personal Recollections of Joan Of Arc by Mark Twain.
I finished the bio of Brahms I was reading
Good read - he was a complicated man to say the least - brutally honest when assessing someone's musical talent, had very little tact. Some technical stuff, but not too bad - 4.25 stars
Starting #6 in Tana French's Dublin Murder Squad series
I think Ms. French could make the phonebook interesting reading!
World on Fire is nearly finished, but I'm putting it aside for a couple hours because Simply Nigella: Feel Good Food
arrived in the mail! Yay.
Just started Robert Low's
. I recently finished his series on Robert the Bruce, which was excellent. Given my love of all things Viking and the great reviews of this series from this group, I expect to skip eating, sleeping, etc. for a bit...
Lariela wrote: "Currently re-reading The Forever Queen by Helen Hollick."I truly enjoyed this novel!! Love that you enjoyed enough to reread!!!
Ugh! I swear I've been plagued by more reading slumps in the last two years than I've had in my whole life!! Got halfway thru
before placing it aside and starting
but that's not grabbing my attention either :/
I am feeling much the same... Just picked up Martin Walker's "RESISTANCE MAN". Chief Bruno is always a good read!!

First time I picked up Song of Achilles I was not impressed, but time went by, I picked it up again and really enjoyed it.

That's interesting, Eileen. I have not read it, but know exactly what you mean. I have that problem with some male characters written by women. It isn't every book, just every now and then. With some male authors writing women characters, I find they can struggle. The women don't sound like men, they sound stupid and fragile minded. Men don't always get their women characters right.
Chris Bohjalian does women better than most male authors. I did not realize that the author of "MIDWIVES" was a man until I have finished it & read asomeone else's review!!

I feel you, Allie. I am back to being hungry for reading afyer approximately 2 years of having no interest in reading what so ever. I started thinking I would never want to read again. Then about 4 weeks ago..whammo!..my love for reading came back.
I hope this happens to you soon.
I was about to start Imperial Fire by Robert Lyndon, only some books I bought the other day artived in the mail. So I am pausing Imperial Fire and am reading God of Vengeance by Giles Kristian instead.
I'm reading Bel Canto. I have also started The Paladin on my Kindle. I haven't read too far yet. Just been reading while waiting for my son or in other little snatches of time. I like it so far though. And for audio, I'm listening to The Burning Land.
TerriWhile I liked Imerial Fire, but I didn't think it was as good as his first one
Enjoy!
I finished The Trespasser
Not HF, but a good police procedural/mystery. Set in Modern Dublin, this is the sixth of the series. A pretty good twist at the end. Solid 4 stars.
Currently reading David Poyer's latest Dan Lenson military thriller
I have been putting off Imperial Fire because I didn't like the first book. I loved the beginning of the first book and then I thought it went bad.I can't keep putting it off though. Going to have to read
Imperial Fire sooner or later.
It seems that my tablet is no longer able to "accept" the kindle app on it. Whatttt. So all those books I've bought thru the years and the ones I was reading within the last few days now have to wait until I either buy a new tablet that's compatible with kindle's app or I need a friggin kindle.

Ohh. Bugger.
The library contacted me to say my books are ready for pick up. I picked up The Whale Road by Robert Low and Hatchepsut: The Female Pharaoh by Joyce A. Tyldesley.
is because I read some glowing recommendations on one of your threads and
based on Margaret's recommendation.I'd never heard of either before and am excited to read both. So thank you, thank you, thank you.
Terri wrote: "I'll be interested to see what you think of Whale Road. You must report back to us. :-)"
will do.
thanks.
For all of April and part of May, I am supervising state mandated testing at the school I work at (don't even get me started on testing). I didn't want to start anything new while I was working. Apparently I still have to pay attention to students. So I'm taking the opportunity to re-read the Percy Jackson books. Right now I'm on
The students love that I'm reading these books. We might start after school book club.
I'm getting to the last part of Personal Recollections of Joan Of Arc, which is about Joan's Great Trial. People say that Mark Twain's writing of this novel is a departure from his usual comedic style, but I find that his sense of humor is not at all lacking.
I finished Personal Recollections of Joan Of Arc and have posted my review in the Hundred Years' War thread.I am reading Embers by Sándor Márai, set in the early 1900s in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Charming writing.
Reading YA for a group challenge... this one
has MC's that travel back in time. Although so far they aren't really doing much of anything :(
Am rereading The Forty Days of Musa Dagh /Franz Werfel -- after many years. Can't believe how good this book is.

I finished The Whale Road by Robert Low. I posted a link to my review on goodreads in the Robert Low thread. I hope that's the right place for it. If not, please let me know where I should post it, Terri.
Thanks.
