Robin | 98 comments Be warned everybody, there's a rivalry between brits and aussies about everything. We'll always somehow manage to find a way of annoying each other. To all the brits out there, does anybody else share the national love of football or am I on my own? Oh thanks for the welcome everybody. Looking forward to all the discussions.

Robin | 98 comments Hey Margaret what do you mean by mostly harmless. I'll probably still take the mick anyway. It's kind of a habbit. To all the americans in the group, please never call football soccer, that's just wrong.

And dont call baseball rounders either. Learned the hard way about that one.

message 5608: by Robin (last edited Oct 13, 2014 03:04PM) (new)

Robin | 98 comments But isn't baseball just a glorified version of rounders? LOL. I'll probably get severe words after that comment. I think it would be kind of funny if I tried to get an American to explain all the rules of cricket. Does everybody see what I mean about taking the mick being a habbit.

Have to call it soccer (spelt with 2 c's btw), we have a different game called football.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm about done with The Good Earth. It's been interesting, but I'll never want to read it again.

message 5614: by Bobby (new)

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments Don't know how we ever started calling it football.....hardly ever touches the foot! Happen to be a Yank that works sports TV here and mostly American college football. But also a Yank that's a big Crystal Palace fan. Good to see them establishing themselves in Premier League.

Jim, have you ever seen the 1930's version of The Good Earth with Paul Muni? Try and find it. Superb

Have you read his earlier "Warlord Chronicles"? Similar but set a few hundred years earlier.
