A few of my friends a pressing me to read it so we can all go see the movie when it comes out next year.
Oh, I hope none of my friends want to go see that movie. I'm not particularly interested and I might feel obligated to go....
I'm in a bit of a book slump at the moment. Nothing I pick up seems interesting. I have ordered some 20 odd books from the library to help rectify this situation. I hope one of them gets me going again!
Dawn wrote: "Oh, I hope none of my friends want to go see that movie. I'm not particularly interested and I might feel obligated to go...."I am not overly interested either but the movie theater we like to visit is only a few miles away from one of my favorite wineries.

Warrior in Bronze is an oldie but goodie.

So you go to the winery first?? And then the movie might not be so bad?? :)
Linda wrote: "Happy, I put Sentinels of Fire: A Novel on my to read list. My father was Navy in Pacific when WWII ended. He never talked about those final days, not even to his brothers or son..."I hope you like it as much as I did. I'll type up my thoughts in a few days.
As to Viet Nam, I think it did. I know my father rarely talks about his experiences there. When he does it usually amusing ancedotes - like the time they went tiger hunting with a M-113 APC and a Huey Gunship. He did start to open up a little bit when his sons went into the Army and could share his experiences to a certain extent.

Wanted to go right back over but my dad brought me to my senses.......and then, believe it it not, I moved to Canada! How back asswards is that?

just a bit :)
I went to the library at lunch time and picked up 12 of the 21 books I'd ordered. Read the first page of all of them and ended up going with
The Thousand Names by Django Wexler. I finished the first chapter and am highly intrigued. I think I found a winner! :)
Just finished The Pearl that Broke Its Shell and Mother Earth Father Sky, which I liked a lot. I'm about halfway through Tidewater: A Novel of Pocahontas and the Jamestown Colony, which is also good.
Dawn wrote: "Of course the really strange part is that you left Canada... :)"The wife missed her family. And on top of that Nixon levied an import tax on Canada for all goods coming into the States. We weren't very popular there either by then. Chaotic, confusing times.

I didn't realize you were up here with your wife. You were on the east coast right?? I can see how Nixon could have created a bad environment with that tax. Not my era but the softwood lumber drama created the same type of atmosphere. All very unfortunate. :(

First wife...... childhood sweethearts..... but I think I might have grown differently after Vietnam. Divorced in '76. Worked for CTV Network in Toronto. Did get to B.C. for the Olympics. Worked the bobsled in Whistler. Love Canada.
Bobby wrote: "Did get to B.C. for the Olympics. Worked the bobsled in Whistler. Love Canada...."You saw more of the Olympics than I did and I live 3 hours from Whistler! :)
I love Canada too.

I know right?? Every time Bobby talks about his life there is something else interesting to find out. :)

All of my books are being put on hold! I finally got a copy of The Blood of Olympus. My mommy bought if for me as an early birthday present. Now I have to race to finish reading it before my 12 year old brother. This is one of the few YA series I have a terrible weakness for.
I just this minute finishedRome Unbound: Whispers of Rebellion byChristopher Lee Buckner. Poking around for next book.
Cain His Brother
Anne Perry writes two historical mystery series set in Victorian times. This one is from her William Monk series. I'm attracted to the Monk stories in part because they're set in the early Victorian period (1850s-1860s), and I don't think that period gets as much attention as the late Victorian, at least in historical mysteries.

Settled on Wolves of Rome by Christopher Lee Buckner despite the number of low ratings. So far, it is good reading.
Seeing as my library has the latest Macro & Cato book on order I thought I would catch up with the series. So I am reading

Also, you can discuss any of the books from the series in that thread. Since we only do group reads of the first book in a series. Just remember to use the spoiler tags for those of us who haven't got past the first one. :D
