On another note, are Star Trek books (in general) good? If I wanted to read some, where's a good place to start? Do I need to watch all the seasons of a particular show before I read the corresponding books? (I've seen all of DS9 and Voyager, but, I'm sorry to say, not all of TNG, even though it's my favorite! I've seen a LOT of them, but not all... All of S1-2 for sure. And I really should go back and watch TOS...) If I were going to read a book series though, I'd probably want to go with TNG.

This is really off-topic, but I'd say their quality varies hugely. Some are awesome. Some are awesomely bad. ;)

Anything by Diane Duane, Peter David, Margaret Wander Bonanno, Diane Carey, Jean Lorrah, A.C. Crispin, and some others is a good bet. Some of the other regulars are more uneven. And while it helps to have watched at least a handful of a given show's episodes before reading the books, it's not critical. My son loves the books, and has not seen any of the shows.

You might find my relevant shelf helpful.

Weird. I thought it would let you see it anyway. Ok, one sec . . . here's the more general shelf.

Matt (scifi451) | 3 comments Here is a great thread on that question, at a good star trek forum, they have a sub forum for trek literature where a lot of the current star trek writers post at themselves as well.

Matt (scifi451) | 3 comments Overall I enjoy Star Trek books. Although they are not deep reading, they are easy and fun to read for the most part to me. For the most part fun and give me a bit of adventure set in the star trek world.

Since the last Star Trek TNG movie Nemesis, the books have become more tied together and carry some greater continuity overall while still having individual story lines as well. If you wanted to get into that general series I would say possibly jump in at the A time to series... that is a 9 book series that leads up to the events in Nemesis. I did not end up reading the A time to series just read the summaries of it mostly. but hear that they are for most part alright books.

Another possible place to start for TNG is Here. The Destiny trilogy that is in the middle of that I quite enjoyed since enjoy most of the various characters that are in it.

Some of the more stand alone books that I have enjoyed in last few years are Articles of the Federation and Watching the Clock. Articles is a bit like West Wing set in Trek's federation government. Clock is fun time travel novel or this case basically time travel cops sort of.

Glad to help more if you have any questions.
