Nikki Challenge Title: String Theory

Duration: One year from start date

Description: At some point in our lives, most of us have read something in a book we wanted to know more about—be it a time in history, a location, or even a hobby one of the characters has. The point of this challenge is to broaden your horizons, to learn more about the things that interest you.

Rules: You’ll start with a book; it can be any book you like. As you read, make a note of the things you find interesting. When you finish the first book, you’ll select your second book based on the list of things you made from the first. You will continue this trend until you have twelve books (one book per month).

For example, let’s say I read Timeline, and I want to read more about time travel. I might choose something like Once a Witch (a book that involves a bit of time travel). That book might make me more interested in witchcraft, and I might choose Hex Hall, which might make me want to know more about boarding schools. I would continue this trend until I’d read twelve books.

The possibilities really are limitless with this challenge, but since this is meant to help you broaden your reading horizons, I’ve included a caveat: you must read one non-fiction book.

So, to summarize the rules:

01 – You must read twelve books (one per month)
02 – You must read one non-fiction book
03 – You’re allowed one re-read

Nikki I would say yes. I think that is part of the fun; to see how they all can be used in which category. You are the Challenge leader now so it is up to you! The person that created this challenge left the group so we can make adjustments to it if we see fit.

Tatum | 459 comments Unless I come across a book that has something I absolutely must know more about, I'm probably going to pick this one closer to the end of the month. I don't want to pick now and then be reading a book 3 weeks from now and saying "Darn, I should have picked this one!!"

That is what I was going to do too.

The first book I'll be reading is
Born to Run A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall

Audrey (godsmissiongal) | 173 comments I think I am going to try this one. I think I want my first book to be Night by Elie Wiesel. I just finished it last night. It is a non-fiction book about a young man who survived the holocaust. I think my next book is going to be one on Jewish history or Jewish traditions. My question is, can we read more than one non-fiction books for this challenge?

Tatum | 459 comments Just a reminder to all challenge participants (and anyone new who wants to join!) that this is the last week to pick your January book, so if you haven't done so yet, you probably should!

message 16: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I will use Soul Screamers <Vol. 1> : My Soul to Lose • My Soul to Take•My Soul to Save as my January book. Which I finished :) I will use the paranormal aspect for Febuary's read TBD.

Tatum | 459 comments My book for January was Paint Your Dragon by Tom Holt. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but it centers around the legend of Saint George and the Dragon and what if the reality wasn't quite what the legend said. Now I love cryptozoology and enigmas and all things of that ilk. Modern day belief in dragons, dinosaurs and various other creatures fascinates me. How a venerated Saint managed to get himself permanently linked to a dragon (even if allegorical, still a dragon) is quite something.

Which brings me to my February choice:
Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter by Josh Gates. Some of you may be familiar with the TV series (which is great in my opinion). This also counts as the non-fiction part of challenge.
