The rest of the book talks about his personal takes on some of his most interesting or dangerous expeditions and what it's like to be a world-traveling "monster hunter."(less)
It was VERY hard while reading the book not to stop and read every other paragraph out loud to whomever was in the room. It was that fun and interesting. As a matter of fact, I often gave in and read large portions aloud. Once I even got out of bed to read a page to someone. They were as equally shocked as I was by the information I was reading. (Chernobyl, anyone?)
At different ...more

Anyone who has ever experienced even a fleeting moment of wanderlust should read this book. Gates takes the reader along on some amazing journeys, but he also provides some important lessons about the difference between ...more
So you can imagine how excited I was when I logged into Facebook one morning and caught a glimpse of this cover. He'd written a book about his adventures on the show back in 2011; I bought it off Amazon without a second thought.
The book arrived a few weeks later (due to being in ...more

Fans of the Destination Truth show will enjoy this book which has great travel insights and some information from expeditions of the show. This book helped show me that I definitely need to renew my passport.
I give it 5 stars. I couldn’t put this book down. Just reading about Josh’s adventures and near death experiences kept me on the edge of my seat. Josh’s sense of humor is wonderful and puts a great spin on his hair-raising adventures. I have the travel bug now since reading this book. A definite must-read for anyone who loves travel and adventure.
In Josh’s book about his time filming his show Destination Truth, the message is clear, it’s not about the Destination, it’s about the journey. The book is chock full of his adventures, not all of which are pleasant, but all of which make for great storytelling. From spider infested sleeping ...more
I loved getting to see some behind the scenes of the variety of adventures he found himself on, several which were dangerous and his writing really drew me in.
In some ways his view points reminded me of a modern day Indiana Jones who genuinely loves getting to see different parts of the world, understanding people from different cultures and appreciating the wonders ...more
The world is mysterious. Thank goodness we have a fearless leader to guide us along the way. I bought this book a long time ago. Lately I have noticed how much Gates’ writing has improved along with the quality of his shows. He sounds just like Rod Serling as he sets up the narration of his program . So I picked up this book and was not sorry. He is funny, articulate and would have made a great boyfriend if he were older and I had enough energy to keep up ...more
I have enjoyed watching Josh on tv since he first did Destination Truth, and on to Expedition Unknown. He has a dry humor and can make the best of the worst situations. He travels all over the world investigating monsters (and now legends) and enjoying himself in each new place. This book mostly chronicles his first season on DT, and all the adventures he had along the way.
