Hey Mirely:

The program isn't quite that sophisticated. Unfortunately, you still need a bookshelf for each challenge. I have a lot of bookshelves, too, so I feel your pain!

Darkpool | 55 comments if you have a suitable existing shelf it will work, only counting books with a read date in the challenge time frame.

Luisa wrote: "My personal challenge: to read some french books in the original version."

We will be reading similar material, except for French! Although I did take courses in French and Spanish, I never really mastered them.

Be sure to use Luisa's Rosetta Stone for your challenge.

You are not alone! Creating additional shelves is the number one objection to joining these challenges.

You absolutely can use existing shelves. Just be sure that the books on the chosen one will meet the criteria, when you enter the “date read”.

Mirely's Short Cut! material will have to come from a shelf that houses only small books and short stories.

In your case, the Yearbook challenge will have to come from a shelf that contains both the years 2011 and 2012. If you currently have two separate shelves for these years, you will have to create another, in order to combine them…or choose just one of the two years and use an existing shelf.

Awesome! Thanks a lot Almeta, you're so kind :)

These challenges are so addicting that I joined both "Darkpool's Doorstoppers" and "GoodReads Authorization".

Anki (shadrachanki) | 2 comments I've updated my challenge list (these things are a bit addictive if you like doing cross sections of your yearly reading...).

2012 Reading Challenge: 120 books
eDingus: 20 books
Home Alone: 100 books
Climb Every Mountain: 80 books

I should really modify the last two somewhat, since they are largely the same challenge with different windows, and the challenge with the longer window has fewer books....

message 59: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) heh-heh - yeah, but be sure to spend more time reading than organizing!

(I only say this because I spend way too much time reorganizing my physical shelves and my virtual shelf of my owned books. :)

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 18 comments So, I was checking out the challenge list today - there are a few that I think I might want to take advantage of - I will mull it over in my mind and join a couple by this weekend.....

Cheryl (cherylllr) Glad to have you aboard Linda!

message 62: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) Hey, Almeta! Wondering if you can add a challenge to read self-help books? Thanks!

Debra (debra_t) Almeta, I'm wondering if you'd mind adding a challenge from 7/1/11 - 6/20/12 for the You'll Love This One group's Year Long Challenge.

Good idea. I should have thought of it myself, since I participate in that challenge!☺

It's all about you! Reading books that reveal something about yourself.

Beth A. (bethalm) I need to update my challenges.

I'm still reading 6 classic sci-fi books, but I'm going to change to 7 doorstoppers and 18 classics.

Along with my constant personal challenge- keeping my to-read shelf smaller than my read shelf.

The You'll Love This One Group is having a "Classic Toppler" for the week of February 5th. Several of us are planning on joining in to read nothing but those classics that we have been neglecting.

We always manage to cheer each other on, when we do a "Toppler Read". Lots of fun!

Bex (kiltedtwizzles) | 5 comments Hi! I just thought of another great one. The Carnegie & Kate Greenaway awards were announced today (both won by A Monster Calls!) & I thought that'd make a good challenge.

So my 6 month challenge to myself is to read 5 past winners of each award (Carnegie & Kate Greenaway). Others could pick a different award of course but I love that these are picked by librarians.

message 71: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Good idea, Bex! I hope you find the books worthy of those awards, in your own opinion. :)
