Got 476. Symphony, I accidentally deleted one edition too many (it was very odd, because I really didn't think I had deleted the last one). But I was able to recreate most of it from my browser's cache. Only missing the description. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...

Someone else must have been working on yours at the same time. I deleted one without the cover - was planning on editing the one with the cover to have the correct info - and someone must have deleted it.

That is NOT a book that should be deleted. All "unknown books" like that are waiting to be rescued by users or ongoing imports.

It's an Unknown, but if you follow the ASIN to Amazon it looks like it was a remnant of the ASIN bug days. I combined it into the first book of the series, but it needs a super to merge the reviews!

I created this book when I was updating my catalogue, but have since realised that even though the format is a large hardcover book - it is actually a very elaborate periodical/magazine. Therefore it shouldn't really be on this site.

For some reason the site won't let me delete this book - even though it hasn't got any ratings or reviews.

Could someone else try please?

I created the empty placeholder for this book. Now there is a paperback edition, too. How do I delete the empty one, and move the 2 reviews over to the paperback?

is this something I should do? I created the empty one to rescue the book. (I don't remember if I did the combine editions.)

p.s. I have several like this. They were done because I couldn't find a record to match the ISBN of the book needing to be rescued.

I am a librarian. I haven't deleted any books, but I've been doing rescues for a week now. I just want to clean things up, but I'd rather find out how to do it properly, before I make the attempt.

In order to see if the books are combined look to the right on the book page for the placeholder. Is the paperback listed there under "other editions"? If so, then the books are combined.

If not, combine them first, before doing any deletions.

Once they are combined select edit details for the placeholder; at the bottom of the page there is a link to "delete this book". This will delete the book and move the reviews to the most popular edition. This action (deleting the book and moving the reviews) is called a "merge".

NOTE about Deleting: Please don't delete books that have a valid ISBN. There are other methods for dealing with items that are not valid books, yet still have an ISBN. :)

I have changed author a few times already to NOT A BOOK, when I rescued some items that were VHS tape cookbook series.

I created several placeholders myself. I manually added a book with just the title and author name, and no other info, as a way to keep something other than 'Unknown' on people shelves. If you are talking about the same kind of thing, then yes they should be deleted now that the Amazon purge is complete.

If a book is combined then the reviews will move to the most popular edition when the book is deleted. If it it not combined, the system won't let you delete it, just to make sure the reviews aren't lost. :)

They were typically books that I found on worldcat, but they were pre-ISBN editions. The books in need of rescue had amazon sourced/incorrect ISBNs. I can't remember if I combined them, or just moved on to the next book. Those first few days are/were a blur. Now I'm doing clean up. Someone was nice enough to point out to me that I have 400+ books on my own shelves with no pub dates! And I have 80 covers to restore, many of them need to be scanned from my own books. Enough to keep me busy for a few days! :)
