Emma Carstairs in The Dark Artifices is the main protagonist :)

There are no Carstairs in TMI but there are going to be in TDA. So his lineage is intact.

Nope. I am with you. I am Team Jem.

That's what I think too since brother Jeremiah is so interesed in Jace, because he's related to Will? Also brother Jeremiah said he lost two people he loved, Will and Tessa? It seems like something Cassandra Clare would do.

I think Will is Brother Zachariah. It would make sense for him to be interested in his descendant's welfare.

Isabel Personally I think that cassia clare doesnt have it in her to kill off one of her main characters.I guess we'll have to read wg at haopens in march. :/

hollyybel I think Jem might be Brother JEreMiah (see the resemblance?) There are so many clues in the MI series. And it would be a way to bring the two series together so that they relate.

message 158: by Eva (new)

Eva Zyg I'm pretty sure Jem will live because of "Emma Carstairs" from the Dark Artifices series thats coming out.
Wether he ends up with Tessa (Please please please) or not (D:<)he lives unless there is another Carstairs or Tessa or another gets pregnant before he dies a sad untimely death D:

Emma Carstairs from The Dark Artifices, does not have to be Jem's direct descendant. Jem has an uncle, who also bears the Carstairs' name...

hollyybel Guys, check this out. This is this girl on Youtube who has reviewed, like, all of the books, and here's one of her vids called Crackpot Theories for the Mortal Instruments, but it includes stuff about Tessa, Will and Jem. So here is the link, check it and tell me if ur opinion changed:

I totally agree Tessa is meant for Will, and as for Jem He is to sick to be with anybody. He is pale, thin and weak.

Blujeanbooks96 Hmm does anyone remember a quote from Magnus in... CoHF (I think) where Magnus and Isabelle are talking or bickering about parabatai (or specifically Alec and Jace). While I can't remember the exact wording, this is when Magnus, obviously referring to Will and Jem, says something like this:
"You think I don't know that. I've seen parabatai so close *yada forget what he says yada*. Do you know what happens to one if the other dies?"
So, I'm thinking that yes, either Jem or Will dies, but I have a feeling that maybe Cassie will throw us for a loop and Will somehow dies - maybe to save Jem or something. Either way, I'm fairly certain that one of them dies. And I also know for certain that I do not want EITHER of them to die :( I will cry... the very ugly loud sobbing cry that no-one wants to see.

message 165: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin I must say if either one of them dies, even though I am 25, I will so very much throw a fit. I think that might ruin the books for me for all time.

ummmmm... Tessa is a warlock or something. So that makes her immortal and not to mention mangus was talking to her in the end or City Of Glass!! So there for he has to live long enough for him to have a kid and also to leave Tessa because she is alse unable to have any children... just saying. Oh and by the way i believe that Will falls in love with Tessa but saying the Clave doesnt know what she is they make him a Silent Brother for punishment. (one of my friends told me he becoms a Silent Brother anyway)

It's never actually proven that she can't have kids. She isn't a normal warlock so the warlock rule might not necessarily apply to her. In saying that, there is also still every chance that she can't.
My guess is still that they find a cure and Jem and Cecily get together and so do Will and Tessa, but it turns out Tessa can have kids and they carry on the Herondale name and Cecily and Jem carry on the Carstairs name (Hence the name Emma Carstairs)

Makayla But just like any series something trajic and suspensfull has to happen in order to keep the series/books interesting, any good author knows that. Besides Jem can't have kids with Tessa because the simple fact how does the Herondale name continue even if Tessa can have kids?

message 174: by Nurlely (last edited Nov 30, 2012 12:59AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nurlely No one actually know what Tessa is. Magnus said that Tessa is a warlock, but he also can not explain why Tessa bears no mark.

Maybe Tessa can have children, with Will. I can not bear reading Will having children with other than her.

Will Jem die? If he dies, it may be from saving Tessa. But Jem has been surviving for so long that CC might decide to let him live and become Bro Zach.

Makayla Nurlely wrote: "No one actually know what Tessa is. Magnus said that Tessa is a warlock, but he also can not explain why Tessa bears no mark.

I totally agree with you on that point but the author of these series like to throw us into a lot of problems so you never know

Nurlely Makayla wrote: "I totally agree with you on that point but the author of these series like to throw us into a lot of problems so you never know "

Ah yes... I remember the moments I wanted to throw my books away. I even wanted to stop reading CoFA and burnt the book right after I read about Jace being possessed...

I like Miss_holly's plan because it makes it so I can pretend that everything will be ok. When I finished the book I freaked out because I hated not knowing what will happen next and that I would have to wait so long to be able to find out what actually happens that I came up with the same plan as Miss_holly. It probably doesn't happen and Jem could very well die but to keep myself sane until the book does come out this is what I have decided to believe.

message 178: by Madi (last edited Nov 30, 2012 01:52PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Madi Why is it that in love triangles, one of the males always has to die? The main character can't choose, so apparently the only way to solve the problem is to kill someone off. I've never liked that. I don't understand why the heroine can't choose. I get that you can love multiple people. I get that sometimes you have to sacrifice. But one of the guys always has to sacrifice. They either die or give themselves up for something else. So instead of the heroine just hurting that one person by choosing, she hurts everyone by not choosing and making the unchosen disappear off the face of the Earth instead of just having him live a different life. I hate that usually heroines are selfish and put everyone around them in difficult situations. I think Ms. Clare realizes this, and she'll plan accordingly, ending the series how no one expects, therefore stupefying people but will forever gain my respect.

Nurlely Eva wrote: "Who is Emma Carstairs from the Dark Artifices? A descendant of Jem maybe! There's hope yet! xxx"

Emma Carstairs doesn't have to be Jem's direct descendant. She could be Jem's uncle's direct descendant for he also a Carstairs.

And if Jem is Brother Zachariah, it will be a total mess since Bro Zach said once that he ever loved 2 persons. Jem is the person in the series who limits his loved ones with 2 person only, Will and Tessa. Can't think of anyone else. Maybe I missed reading about other characters.... :(

message 180: by Nurlely (last edited Dec 02, 2012 05:51PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nurlely I think someone posted it, that his uncle asked him to live with him on a different thread. I need to go through the series and other sources before I can get it.

Nurlely Got it from Cassandra Clare's Tumblr.

http://cassandraclare.tumblr.com/post...

Do you read her Extras and Snippet? I was first interested in reading them when I joined the discussion about Jace feeling grateful towards the Seelie Queen. I was left behind and was totally confused since I could not find it in the books.

hollyybel But who knows how old the Uncle is and whether or not he can have kids and blah, blah, blah.

Oh,my God I was just struck by a horrifying thought....

What if Jem dies, Tessa can't have kids, Will goes into zombie-mode because his parabatai dies and then becomes a Silent Brother, Cecily runs away, Charlotte miscarries, and Emma is a descendant of Jem's uncle.

No, she wouldn't do that to us. She couldn't do that to us. But that would really suck, wouldn't it?

Nurlely Miss_holly wrote: "But who knows how old the Uncle is and whether or not he can have kids and blah, blah, blah.

He can also be under 30.... ;)

I have every doubt that Will becomes a Silent Brother (Bro Zach). Will loves his family so much, Tessa, Will, Charlotte and Henry. Bro Zach loves 2 persons which resembles Jem so much.

I doubt that Will will go zombie mode if Jem dies. He will be that way if Tessa or his family member dies. Alec did not go zombie mode when Jace died. He felt something was missing (or something like that), but that is not the end of his shadowhunter life.

Do we have other parabatai's death case beside the very short moment of Jace's death? on any excerpts or snippets?

Does anyone need to die? Will CC be brave to kill one of her characters like JK Rowling did? Even JK Rowling didn't kill one of her main characters (Harry, Hermione & Ron). Maybe CC will maintain her 3 leading stars (Tessa, Will & Jem) and kill someone else. They can be Sophie, Charlotte (Henry will survive to create more inventions) or the Lightwood brothers.

Nicole | nikiashreads As much as I hate to say it, I do think that Jem will die, but it doesn't answer any questions I have.

But with his death, it makes is hard for a Carstairs to appear in The Dark Artifacts. I don't know if that line will appear or not, but I have seen many things hinting at a Carstairs coming in the other spin-off series.

And (as usual) I am still rooting for Will and Tessa, but I don't know if that is going to happen because it would make Will look heartless, and we all know he isn't.

ȘᎯɱᎯɴτħᎯ Both of them might die...

ȘᎯɱᎯɴτħᎯ Cassie keeps making it sound like the end is this ending that will tear our hearts out and make us hate the world for a couple days.

I'm so torn about that to, because I love and hate those kind of books! GAH I WANT IT TO COME OUT FASTER.

Has any of you come across her saying Clockwork Princess as the last book of The Infernal Devices?

Clockwork Princess is the last book in the trilogy, along with City of Heavenly Fire being the last book in The Mortal Instruments series. But never fear! She is making another spin off series that is set in Los Angeles, five years after the end of TMI.

The Dark Artifacts:
http://cassandraclare.tumblr.com/post...

ȘᎯɱᎯɴτħᎯ Yeah she has that and then a middle grade series she's doing with Holly Black. Also that anthology is coming....

Thanks dear... I know all about The Dark Artifices. What I haven't read (maybe because I missed it) is about her saying Clockwork Princess as the last book in TID, as she clearly has said about CoHF as the last of TMI...

WinterRose 1. I am pretty sure Cassie has said at some point that Jace is a direct descendant to Will. Plus, it would be really stupid to have two connecting series with two main boys with the same last name NOT to be directly related. Plus there's the fact that Jace has Will's old dagger, his dad was named Stephen William..etc. I just think logically, Will and Jace will be related directly.

2. On the other hand, Cassie has never said if Emma is the direct descendant to Jem. I also find it kind of hard to imagine that Jem, who has Asian linage, would eventually produce this blonde American type of girl. Since Cassie uses Teresa Palmer as Emma, I think it's safe to assume she has no Asian in her.

3. This brings me to my theory. I think Tessa can have children and will have them with Will. I think she'll name one James Herondale, passing down the Herondale name by blood. Then they will have another, naming him a Carstairs. Maybe Sydney Carstairs. This would pass down Jem's name by NAME only, not blood, so Emma would not be blood related to Jem after all. But she would carry his name.

Just a guess. :P

From http://cassandraclare.tumblr.com/post...

It says that Jem has an uncle (his dad's brother), living in China. Jem's dad is Brit and mommy a China, which makes it obvious if Emma has nothing Asia in her, if she is to be a direct descendant to Jem's uncle.

Just a thought there. Not having Clockwork Princess soon enough will make me waiting devastatingly...

Ali I didnt read the whole thread, just skimmed it, and not sure if anyone said anything about this, but Jem's name doesn appear in future books, maybe when you guys wrote the thread, you didnt know it, but Cassandra Clare is writing another series about Shadowhunters, and they are going to be called the Dark Artifices. It takes place 5 years after TMI, and it takes place in the Los Angelos Institute, and in that area. the main character is named Emma Carstairs, and seing as though Jem doesnt have any siblings, or parents anymore, or really any relatives to carry on his name, it is clear that he does have children at one point. But the question is, with who? And if it is with Tessa, then who does Will have kids with? Do they both have kids with her?
