Nope I think Jem will find a cure that makes him immortal and then he and Tessa can be together forever.

I won't be mad if she ends up with Will, but I hope it's Jem. He is too sweet not to love. And I'm not sure I want to read the new series either, but I might read it just to see what Jem's descendant turned out
Yes because it pretty obvious that she is in love with will but she can't just break Jems heart so he's going to have to die
I don't know what will happen but I know it won't be a happy ending for everyone
I really think Jem is going to die, and if he does, I'm hoping it's in battle. If he dies, I don't think Will will get with Tessa. Sure I want that to happen, but I don't think he will allow himself to do that.

Well, He could have a kid and die when Before the baby was born-But it also means he dosn't marry Tessa. She can't have kids. I just hope that we don't get to read when he dies, I'll Cry :(

I completely forgot about that. So maybe Jem does live and hopefully things will work out perfectly and he will end up with Will's sister, Cecily (meaning main character in The Dark Artifactes can be born). And then Will can be with Tessa.
Oh we can dream..........

I was kind of hoping Jem would fall in love with Cecily and leave Tessa.But that was just a thought.
When a shadow hunter joins the silent brothers don't they change their name? I know that in the City of Lost Souls they say they almost become ageless. Do they live forever or does the silent city slow aging? Maybe Jem devouts his life to the silent brothers. Or maybe Will does? Im thinking that thats why the silent brother Jerimiah says "Jace Herondale was never just a boy." to Maryse Lightwood. Maybe they know something about the Herondale blood line that no one else does....
Jem Can't Become a silent brother-all the silent brothers that lived 'till the CoLS says they never married or had kids, and Jem has to have a baby.... So he can't be brother Zachariah.

Jem Can't become a silent brother. There are so many reasons why.
I don't want Jem to die but, Tessa and Will couldn't be together if he will not die and Tessa and Will wouldn't be together if he will not die...This kind of problem in the book makes the reader go MAD ! So for god's sake I wish it's 2013 so I can read Clockwork Princess -_-
It may be nothing or it may be something but in the book Brother Zachariah said that:He didn't have any kids or a wife.
That he was once a shadowhunter.
And he also said something about how the Herondales were/are survivors (meaning he must have known a/the Herondale/s)
And when Maryse asked if he would tell The Clave he said that there were those he loved enough to put their welfare before any oath or any debt (maybe like the descendants of his parabatai) .
What I'm getting at here is that maybe Brother Zachariah is Jem. I mean he is trying to look after Jace, a descendant of Will Herondale (Jam's parabatai)
AND maybe in the end Jem never did marry Tessa so he didn't have kids.
AND maybe he had another relative that had children which then led to the main character of The Dark Artifacts.
But I'm just typing aloud here.
I thought Jem was the last of the Carstairs.

Again that might be the case, but she did it again in this series by introducing Cecily at the end of Clockwork Prince.

That is true, but we only really found out about her in the 2nd book, anyway back to the main topic I think that it is definitely possible that Jem could have another relative that we don't know about and hopefully my theory is right in saying that he becomes a Silent Brother.
I Just don't hope Tessa Chooses Will over him, I don't want to see him Heart-broken :(
Same as you I love Jem and would hate to see him get hurt, but I also feel for Will. I mean his had to push Tessa away (hurting himself and her in the process) and then when he finds out it's all been for nothing and then goes to tell her how he feels, he finds out she is engaged to his best friend. And I know this contradicts what I said at the start, but I'm pretty sure that Tessa has stronger feelings for Will then she does Jem. Either way it's going to be a sad ending for she's going to outlive whoever she choses (unless Jem does become a Silent Brother).
Hopefully. Then Tessa can be with Will. Lol jk! I love Jem, I just love Will more. So no, I don't think he will die, he's too important. Also, in Lady Midnight the main character is Emma CARSTAIRS! so, since she must be a descendant of Jem, maybe he will live
I think Jem is Brother Zachariah. When he answered Maryse when she asked if he would have died for someone before he became a silent brother, I completely thought BZ was Jem. Two people- Tessa & Will. Also, he is really protective of Jace, but that is (view spoiler) I hope Jem doesn't die, but I don't want him to end up with Tessa either. Will & Tessa all the way!!!

Emma Carstairs, protagonist of the next series Cassandra Clare is writing is definitely related. We have no idea how things will go from this point.
I think Jem dies because In "City of lost souls", Magnus mentions something about Parabatai and what happens when one of them dies and the other suffers...so this clearly is saying something here about Jem and Will.

Or Magnus could have been talking about Alec, when Jace die the first time....although i doubt it.
No, because CC is writing another series and the Main character has the same last name as Jem...
I mean I like Jem and all, but Will more. I think he either dies or becomes a Silent Brother because I think it would be kind of cheesy if Clare did the whole "last minute cure thing"
Wait, isn't there Emma Carastairs to think about. I think maybe Jem does survive a little while to have a kid probably, but I think he falls in love with maybe Cecily in Clockwork Princess. Maybe she tries to heal him and they become connected so he breaks off the engagement with Tessa. And happily ever after, until he dies if that happens
I would hate it if Jem died. But I can't say that Clare hasn't prepared us for it, I mean his imminent death is mentioned throughout the series so it will be less of a shock if he eventually dies. However, Clare might be using his illness to distract us from other deaths that might take place because we're definitely not prepared for other characters dying.As for Emma Carstairs..I think that either she is a descendent from a Carstairs other than Jem or that she is a direct descendent of Jem. I would like it if she was because then all the series would link up together and I think Clare likes doing that.

So that basically means Jem dosent dies and indeed has children
I think that Tessa and Jem will end up getting married, but Jem dies. But right before he dies he gives his blessing to Tessa to move on, and maybe give Will a chance? Just my opinion. :)

So we know that something is going to happen between a pair of Parabatai, she didn't specify who though.
Ok seriously. I think Jem and Tessa should be together. I mean I know she loves Will but she also loves Jem. I don't think she would give up one love for another. I don't think Jem will die but something crucial will happen to change his state. I also think Will, will end up with someone other than Tessa. So in the end... Jem and Tessa <3
I can't see Will ending up with anyone but Tessa (or just being alone). Mostly because Clare has put so much effort in developing their relationship, if he starts loving someone else it won't seem right.I agree with Charity in that something crucial will defintely happen resulting in Jem changing somehow.
Maybe he turns into a silent brother and his parabatai bond with Will is broken hence the "Not your Parabatai eny longer" snippet...
Or the parabatai snippets could be about Jace and Alec (although I hope neither of them die, Clare did mention that a major character was going to die in CoHF)
Also, can anyone remember if Gideon and Gabriel are parabatai?? because if they are then the snippets could also relate to them two.
maybe jem will die [hope not] but maybe not you never know there maybe a cure there is no one with the name Carstairs maybe there just not in MI cos the first three were written and publised berfore clockwork angel and through the genarations maybe the name got lost i really hope tessa ends with jem let the guy marry to someone nice they both deserve each other let them be happy [i think tessa should go with james cos she'll be happy and not will cos he was terrible]
I think that it won't be Jem who dies. I think that he becomes a Silent Brother (I mean the whole There were two people I cared about thing) plus Cassandra has said that there is a story to Brother Jeremiah. I think Will will die - and it breaks me, but maybe he gets some action, and maybe Tessa becomes Preggo and everyone is like "how did that happen?" but she doesn't care, because she had the best offspring ever. Maybe she changes through the duration of the pregnancy to keep the baby human and not Warlock? Hence the Herondale line continues. Then Jem could be all "oh hi Cicely, you remind me of my parabatai, and I like that in a girl," and she's all "okay, why not?" and they have an illegitimate love child, so then Jem will be a silent brother after Will dies. Maybe he doesn't tell Tessa about it? I just think that characters like Jace and Will are meant to die - to break the fangirls.

Well .there is a new series with a girl named Emma Carstairs coming soon. It's on Cassie's website. The series is going to be called The Dark Artifices. So, Jem will have descendants. I hope Jem doesn't die, but I think he will. I think I have finally come to a decision, I like Tessa with Will. I hope they end up together, and I hope Jem gets a good ending. Jem must live. In the description of the dark artifices, The girls last name is carstairs.
Brother Zachariah and Brother Jeremiah are both Jem and Will, I'm sure, especially hearing all these theories going around, this must be true ?
