    WHAT ARE YOU READING?

      I'm currenlty reading:Captivating: it's more a 'self-help' book, so I usually only read one chapter a day.
The Amber spyglass: which I picked up at the library 2 days ago, and I'm almost done.
Pillars of the Earth; about half way through.
Love in the time of cholera: I'm not 'in-to' it as I thought I would be. So it's been kind-of slow going with this one.
I already have about 5 more from the library waiting for me to dig into.
The Thirteenth Tale will be the next one.
I'm actually in between books right now, but the next one I start is going to be Meridon by Philippa Gregory.

I just got done reading Regarding the Fountin by Kate Klise which is a small paperback book told in letters. PS Its a kids book. A while ago I finished the Spiderwick seires.(Actually like November)

Just finished reading "Water for Elephants", which I loved, and have just started "Where the Heart Is" by Billie Letts. Next to read - "Manic" by T. Cheney. Has anyone read either of these two books?

I've read Where the Heart Is and I really liked it. I haven't read Manic but I have added it to my to-read list tonight. Now I'm on Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich.
Hello all! As I think I've posted through another thread here, I have a minor issue with trying to read several books at once...I am currently working on the following books:Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (I've been told it's really good...It's been a little slow getting into it, but I think it's starting to get good...we'll see!)
Without a Map by Meredith Hall (she's my mentor and this is her memoir...I know it's going to be tough subject matter, but I'm so excited to read it!)
Double Cross by James Patterson (I keep hoping that JP will rediscover that magic that got me hooked on him in the first place!)
Death du Jour by Kathy Reichs (ok, so I was so looking forward to read her stuff because I love Bones, but I'm having a tough time getting through it...but I almost never give up on a book, so I'm hoping that the second half will be better!)
The Curse of the Singles Table: A True Story of 1001 Nights Without Sex by Suzanne Schlosberg (thought I'd switch things up a bit!)
Never Give Up by Tedy Bruschi (I just got this but I've been wanting to read it for a while now...I love Tedy!)
I have seven other books that I just got from the library too, so we'll see how fast I get through these!!
I know you heard I read Spiderwick and Regarding the Fountain. I also read The Old Wllis Place. My Teacher read it day by day Nor he nor my class could wait to finish it. We all thought it was amazing! (That is if you like ghost stories) Also PLEASE READ ABOUT THIS NEXT 2 BOOKs! It's called Here Be Monsters. It's really thick but I finished it in a day and 5 min. It has all these funny creatures and Amazing pictures. Also READ AOUT THIS NEXT ONE 2! It's called The Invention Of Hugo Carbret. It's mostly VERY detailed pictures. The pictures tell the story! It was so good I read it during my own basketball game! Please tell me If you dicied to read any of these books

Katie,I have a similar "several books at once" issue. People keep asking me how I can keep them all straight. As long as they aren't they same type of book - two mysteries set in similar locations - I don't find it difficult.
I also had the same reaction to Kathy Reichs. I recently read Deja Dead, her first in the Tempe Brennan series. I thought the first half dragged a bit. The second half did pick up, but overall I thought some better editing could have tightened it up. A weight loss program of about 50 pages would have helped.
I'm currently reading:
The Thirteenth Tale
Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
A Perfect Red by Amy Butler Greenfield
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
Rumspringa:To Be or Not to Be Amish by Tom Shachtman
Also listening to:
Lake of Sorrows by Erin Hart
I'm currently reading Rhett Butler's People and throughly enjoying it. Donald McCaig is the male Margaret Mitchell as far as I'm concerned. His writing is so like hers. I give it a 4.5!Sherri
I'm currently reading1) The Long White Month by Dean Marshall
2) Men of Mathematics by Eric Temple Bell
3) Literacy: Helping Children Construct Meaning for a college class.
-Shawn
I am currently reading:Politics for Dummies
The House of Seven Gables - Nathaniel Hawthorne
Mansfield Park - Jane Austen
I tend to plow through lighter books faster, so I'll probably read Tales from the Crib - Risa Green, before I finish any of the others.
I've got Sisters by Danielle Steel on the go at the moment and only 50 or so pages in and my goodness does she repeat stuff, sometimes it is very annoying but I know there's a good story behind this one and my mum cried when she read it and I like a good cry so I shall persevere.

I'm looking for just the opposite, Mandy- I've cried too much over my books lately. I picked up some Flannery O'Connor, my favorite, to make me smile. There's something about her writing that makes me want to write. I have Everything that Rises Must Converge and A Good Man is Hard to Find.

Today I finished a book called "Mommy Wars" and will be starting a book called "Left To Tell:Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust by Immaculee Ilibagiza.

I just finished "Bee Season" by Myla Goldberg and have started "Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name" by Vendela Vida, which is ok so far. I am only a little way into it. Will let you know what I think. I have like 15 books in que and don't know what to read next :)

Finished "Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name" tonight...it just sucked me in and all of the sudden it was done and I was...well...amazed!Just started "Twilight" <--I am nervous about going into this book. I had heard it was a great read, but then here at Goodreads, I have read quite few not so glowing reports on it. So we shall see where it goes.
I also am going to start the Snow Flower book (the one by Lisa See). I am anxious to read that.
I am halfway through "Left To Tell". I should be able to finished by next week/weekend. The next book I plan to read is "Children in Room E4 " by Susan Eaton and "From the Classroom to the Corner" by Cynthia Cole Robinson.

Finished "Twilight" in one day and am "hungry" for more! :) <--sorry about that...couldn't resist! :)Going to start "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" today and possible "Chasing Vermeer". I am in a total YA genre mood lately!!!
I was depressed at the end of "Jane Eyre". Just finished "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan". FABULOUS book. I highly recommend it to ANYONE!
Going to start "Chasing Vermeer" and something else, but am unsure where to go.... :)
Finished "Chasing Vermeer" and have started "Life of Pi' which I have to admit is going V E R Y slowly for me. I am also going to pick up "Princess Academy" because I can't stand not to be reading something while I take breaks from "LOP". :)

I'm finishing up the last 50 pages or so of Invisible Man and then I'm going to start in on My Ántonia. After that, who knows? I have a few current pubs that I need to get to before they get dusty on my shelves and aren't so 'current' anymore... :-)
I just finished "A Prayer for Owen Meany" and started "Odd Thomas", finally. It took me a while to go get it but it was such a highly recommended series I had to try it. I had the last book in the series waiting in the wings so I hope it is good.

"Odd Thomas" is a GREAT book. I just got another friend hooked on that series. Everyone I have ever recommended that series too has LOVED it. :) I hope you do too.Just finished "Life of Pi". Odd book. I enjoyed it, but I think it will stick with me for awhile. Hmmmmm
Starting "The Princess Academy" and going to the bookstore tomorrow to GET MORE BOOKS....:) I really want to get "New Moon". I am hooked.
I'm currently reading two books:The Children in Room E4:American Education on Trial by Susan Eaton
From the Classroom to the Corner by Cynthia Cole Robinson
4 books1 on CD when traveling - Adams vs Jefferson
Election of 1800
really interesting
2 4 Lit and Film Contempt
3 for side read The Developing Mind
4 re-read Proust and the Squid
about the science of reading and the neuroscience of the same
I stopped reading "The Children in Room E4" and "From the Classroom to the Corner" because they were starting to bore me. I will start reading "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult and "Faith Under Fire" by LaJoyce Brookshire

I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult and The Pact is one of my favorites! It will break your heart, but you will be happy you read it! I know that sounds morbid, and I don't mean it in a bad way. You will definitely be touched by this book!

I am reading 2 books at the moment. I am reading Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan. I mad a deal with my boys (one is now 19 and the youngest is 13) that whatever they have to read in school, I will read along with them. If we don't like it, we can complain together, talk about it. This had really helped, cause my older one would always stop whatever he had to read and not get through it. Since I made this deal, he finished everything and now my younger one is really excited to have me read the same books too. I'm enjoying it. I read alot of Lois Duncan as a kid and loved her. I hadn't read this one yet, so I am looking forward to it.I am also reading Ghost Hunting by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson. I'm a huge fan of the SciFi show Ghost Hunters and this is by those guys. Really good. Stories of cases they've worked on. Real and fake. I'm enjoying it.
Kathy:What a great way to get your kids reading! Not only are they going to get the work for school done, you are showing them how great books really are!
Kudos to you!!!
I am reading (almost done actually) with "The Mermaid Chair". Will start "Lisey's Story" after that I think. :)

I have just started People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.
Thus far I am really enjoying it. An intriguing story of an old illuminated, thus rare, hagaadah and its history of survival through 5 centuries. The most modern part of the story is told through the eyes of the book conservator during the 1990's conflict between the Bosnian's and Serbs. The alternating chapters are are the stories of those who protected the book during history's upheavels.

Kathy - What a great way to stay connected to your children while encouraging the love of reading. I love that idea and think I will do the same in our home. I am currently reading A Woman in Jerusalem by A.B. Yehoshua. It was translated from Hebrew and has the same feel as some other books that I have read which were also written in Hebrew. It has taken me about 75 pages to get into it, but I am enjoying it and have taken to the characters.
Sandra - have you read Year of Wonders by Brooks as well? How does this book compare if you did? I really liked Year of Wonders, March was okay and I'm contemplating People of the Book.Currently I'm reading Free Style by Linda Nieves-Powell, so far so good. I'm not that far into it but I have a good feel about this one.
I read both People of the Book and Year of Wonders, and while I enjoyed them both, I thought People of the Book was better. Geraldine Brooks is a very intelligent and interesting author. I will probably try to read everything she writes. I've just started The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman.

      Mandy and Cynthia,
This is the first book by Brooks I have read but since I have been impressed I have already ordered March from Amazon. I will have to try Year of Wonders next.

Hey everybody! I'm currently reading and almost finished with Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. My next read will be Dearly Devoted Dexter. After that...probably some classic literature, but who knows? LOL

I just finished A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray and Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. I thoroughly enjoyed Beauty and am now looking to pick up a copy of the sequel, Rebel Angles, ASAP.In the meantime I've returned to Flesh and Spirit by Carol Berg. I've read a few books by her and quite enjoyed them. Especially Song of the Beast. This one seems pretty good so far, but I'll reserve judgement until I've read a little more.
I'm also waiting for The Smoke Thief to be returned to the library so that I can (maybe) finish reading it. People keep signing it out though, so I'm hardly getting a chance to read it at all!
(I don't sign it out myself because I only ever read it when I visit the library. I want something to read while I'm there. And since it seems silly to bring my own books when I'm going to be in a building full of them, I just pick one that's already on the shelf to read.)
Just finished CONTEMPT - great bookjust started audiobook ADAMS VS JEFFERSON, ELECTION OF 1800. Enjoyed what heard so far and having book read to you is great when traveling.
