it has a lot more information than I ever knew about her even after taking a class in Russian history

I am reading "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". It is kind of interesting, but not what I was expecting. I'm only halfway through it so far.

Lillie | 8 comments I finished "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" a couple of days ago but have yet to figure out what to read next. I don't want to leave that world yet. Wish I could've waited until all three books were published in the US, but it was a book club selection. Very different than other mysteries out there.

LILLIE ... Have you ever read any of the Quintin Jardine series of Bob Skinner mysteries. He writes a complex story, with interesting characters, that might suit your post-Lizbeth mood ... LEW

Carol Bro (cjbro) | 34 comments Hi to all. I'm new here. I just finished 1) Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet (tonight). Posted a review. Loved it absolutely! 2) Finished Bel Canto last week. Started out rather dry, but well worth sticking it out. It's one of those books that stays with you long after you've finished reading it (as is "Hotel" also). Before that, An Echo in the Bone because I love Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. If you haven't read it, I recommend starting at the very beginning: Outlander - so you get to know Jamie and Claire and their history together from the very start. "Echo" is #7 in the series.

Sam (ecowitch) | 42 comments I'm now reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown and A Farther Shore Ireland's Long Road to Peace by Gerry Adams, which I seem to have a tendancy to argue with...out loud too which can be a bit disturbing to others around me (got some strange looks from a woman on the train yesterday lol)

Jim | 112 comments LIFE ASCENDIING by Nick Lane
it's about the key steps in evolution for the origins of life,DNA, movement, complex cells all the way through death
very interesting but takes a lot of attention

message 623: by Denise (new)

Denise I am just finishing up American Home Life, 1880-1930 A Social History of Spaces and Services. This book was interesting in that it is a history of how our living space has changed due to changes in society (like moving the bathroom into the house).

I am just starting The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop, a memoir and a history of the author's life in books. What can be better than reading a book about books and bookstores. OMG!!!

message 624: by Carol (new)

Carol Bro (cjbro) | 34 comments I like the sound of that American Home Life, Denise. Think I'll look into that.

message 625: by Mary (new)

Mary Just last week I started to read Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger so far it good. Although I can't say that Her Fearful Symmetry is quite as good as her first book, The Time Traveler's Wife. I still have enjoyed it so far though and will let you know how I like it after I finish it!

message 626: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 42 comments Finished Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, was quite good but had a far bit of deja vu with the Da Vinci Code which spoilt it a little bit. Still think his best book I've read is Angels and Demons.

Coming towards the end of Gerry Adams' book but still arguing with it frequently and actually finding myself getting quite wound up by it. He seems to have it in his head the Sinn Fein did everything right while the RUC, the British Army and the Unionist/Loyalist and British politicians got everything wrong, not to mention the fact that he seems to have forgotten that nearly half of all the deaths during the Troubles were the responsibility of the IRA (who apparantly they have absolutely nothing to do with...not quite convinced by that one somehow), but anyway enough of my ranting.

Just started reading The Poe Shadow A Novel by Matthew Pearl, looking forward to getting stuck into it, I must say.

very interesting/thought provoking so far
set in LA in 2003 with Iraq War in background among some Hollywood types, their friends and children
strong sexual content but fits in context of the story/relationships

I read this book I believe last year (picked it up mainly because a good chunk of the action takes place in Moscow) and it was all right, the main character was interesting.
