Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man - James Joyce: Just started. Quite different writing style, but refreshingly so. Easton Press edition.
Middlemarch - George Eliotz: liking it. I am going to watch the DVD after I read it. This is from an old collection of the novels of George Eliot 1910.
The Trail of the Lonesome Pine - John Fox: good story that I understand was made into a movie. I will have to watch after I'm done. Book I am reading was published in 1908.
Tess of the d'Ubervilles - Thomas Hardy: Almost done with this one. I like Hardy's writing style. You get a sense of the landscape and can feel what it is like to be there. I am on the last few pages. What a surprise ending (so far).
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - J.K. Rowling: Recently finished. Loved it. Book was much better than the movie. Yes, I actually read the book before watching the movie. I am thinking that if I had not read the book, the movie would have been hard to understand.

I tend to be eclectic in my reading and it's normal for me to have 2,3 or even 4 books going at a time. My husband wonders how I can keep all the plots straight, but I've never found it to be a problem.

P.S. WES, WHOEVER YOU ARE, I REALLY LIKE THAT YOU TYPE IN CAPS SO MUCH. IT MAKES YOU A CURIOUS FELLOW, BUT IN A GOOD WAY.

about source countries seeking stolen artifacts back from museums - informative and a quick read

really interesting and the writer is first rate as far as language, information and giving a portrait of what those times were like

Idiom's Delight: Fascinating Phrases & Linguistic Eccentricitie
The Flight of the Mind: Virginia Woolf's Art and Manic-Depressive Illness

very good, quick and in classic tradition of Cain/Chandler
Zesterman is a Goodreads author from what I understand

Very curious for others thoughts!

Have you read A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore? It is hilarious! His books take a little while to get into but are really funny!
Melissa wrote: "I am currently reading "You Suck" by Christopher Moore. I am struggling to get into it. It is a funny vampire love story involving some interesting activities like turkey bowling and putting blood..."

Its about how memory affects how histroy is perceived to have happened and specifically about the US after the Civil War where the battle was reunion vs effecting the emancipation of blacks
very good and detailed

probably wouldn't read it otherwise
should have tried that approach for ULYSSES by Joyce
