Some books my middle school students - especially reluctant reader boys - loved: Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi, Trash by Andy Mulligan, Tangerine by Edward Bloor. Good luck. I, too, am always on a search for great reads for reluctant reader boys.
Hi Jim (and Beverly),I'd love to send you my book, The Apocalypse Gene. While the main protagonist is a teenage girl, there is an equally important male character, who was mostly written by my partner and co-writer, Carlyle. The book has tons of action to appeal to boys.
It was recently offered as a free reading choice to a 6th Grade class, and the boys loved it as much as the girls. In fact, the teacher told me there's a waiting list for it now!
Here is that teacher's blog post about it - read the comments at the end.

What type of e-reader do you have? I'll send you a copy, if you are interested in reviewing it.
Thanks!
Suki
I've got Kindle for PC. Saving up for the real thing, you see. PDF works, too. All in all, I'd be happy to review your book, Suki. I'll post the review and drop you a line once it's done.
mahervolousatyahoodotcom is the address to send the book.
Thanks!
