*Still a Simon girl when it comes to TMI."
you understand me

Why did you hate CP2???? I loved it...

I agree Simon's more real. Jem was my absolute favorite until CP2 though. So kind and understanding, selfless and caring. But all of a sudden Cassie made him so inhuman - way too forgiving, absolutely incapable of jealousy and disappointment. There was just one moment when Tessa almost told him that she slept with Will, but that was all. It was too much our-souls-are-one for me, can't really explain it better.
Simon on the other hand surprised me nicely in the last book and he is in general a good person, though I didn't like him dating two girls, felt so unSimon.
Overall I prefer pre-CP2 Jem, but I will make up my mind after CoHF :D

I could give you a whole rant on it, but basically I just don't think it was some of Cassandra Clare's best writing. (view spoiler)

Yes I agree with you!! CP2 just wasn't good.

I know, but my opinion is just that I like Will more. Other people can like the ending, or like Jem more, I don't mind.
It's what I like more.

it's just because Simon takes my mind of thing, he's so funny and ridiculous. while Jem makes me cry all the time... because he was dying and in the CP2 epilogue he end up with Tessa, i don't know why that bothers me a lot but it did.

I was team Will all the way...like, I used to scream at people in forums about how much Will was better than Jem.
But even if Tessa got Jem, and then later got Will, I would still not be happy. I admit, I felt small bits of glee at the end when it was winter at Tessa was about to Will she was in love with her, but honestly who really can love two people equally in that way? It reminds me of a series I hated (Eyes Like Stars). The girl in that series ended up with the guy I wanted her to but because it was so infuriating that she loved two people equally and that the only reason she ended up with the dude was because the other one left.
In the first two Infernal Devices you could tell she loved Will more, and then all of a sudden in the last one she was "Oh, I love both equally." Like, what?!?!

It's not that I hate Jem bc he got Tessa in the end, it's that I hate the whole book. When I first read The Infernal Devices, I was madly in love with Will and the all the books. But then I reread them and I didn't see anything special about them. I was hoping for an ending that would revive my love for the series, but instead the whole plot was sort of stupid, and a lot of it was predictable (i.e. Jem into Silent Brother...Goodreads ruined that for me).

I'm sorry you feel this way. I gave 5 star to CP2, because it really touched me and made me cry a lot. You are missing the point that Tessa is not human and can't have just one big love for eternity. It's natural for her to love different man in different ways and in the same time to not be able to rank those loves. Imagine someone asking you who do you love better your mom or your dad, your sister or your brother... Love can't be measured.
The idea of the series is that there isn't just one person that is right for you, one big love, your kindred soul and that's the end. I guess if you do not agree, you won't like it. I too am not entirely happy with the ending, but it's really different with lot of things the reader should keep in mind, so overall I'd say it was satisfying. You could say that Tessa loved Will passionately, he was the one who read her mind through the love for books they shared and Jem played the music of her soul. May be think about two boys you really loved (none of them breaking your heart) and it will make more sense?

I mean, in books, people are not supposed die of old age. They're supposed to live forever.... NO, MY WILL!!!! *sniffle*... I'll love you forever....

Then definitely don't read Song of ice and fire or Harry Potter or... You know what, don't read at all :P
I'm joking, I know how devastating is to lose a beloved character. Don't worry, you'll find love again :)

Haha, edited for misplacing fire with ice, sorry. In my language fire is put first in the translated name of the series, because it sounds better that way :) And yeah, my heart too, it still bleeds for...well no spoilers, but yeah, still hurts :(

No, I understand how Tessa felt. I would probably feel the same way.
It's just when Jem and Will were both alive, Tessa could not make up her mind between the two, so Jem made it up for her when he became a silent brother. So
Wait, isn't this about Jem and Simon? Oops.

I agree. Jem was so nice to the point where he was almost un-human. He expressed like ZERO jealousy when he heard about Tessa and Will.

It's scary sometimes, the bond between the three..

I feel like for most of TMI Simon's character revolves around his relationship with Clary. If you took that out of the picture, -up until CoFA- he would've been missing character development.
However, since CoFA Simon has come a long way and is definitely one of my favorite characters.
That being said, I love James Carstairs and the bittersweet story of his life. Jem wins hands down.

2) Magnus
3) Simon
4) Alec
5) Gabriel
6) Jem
7) Henry
8) Jace
(I hate all the girls cept for Tessa and Charlette

Yes, he lives a pretty bittersweet life. You can say he has more depth, and maybe he was only supposed to represent a composed, kind character or maybe he was dying and didn't want to be hating Will when he did. But I don't like his perfection, I like it when he's messed up. When he kissed Tessa for the first time (I was SO not a Tessa+Jem fan at all), if you read the excerpt from Jem's POV, you can tell he really enjoyed it and those were his human-like emotions. And when Will got drugged up Jem slapped him and showed anger. I really liked those parts. But the third book was just, no.

Yeah. I didn't like Jem as much in the 3rd book. I mean sure, i am a die-hard Will fan, but i still liked Jem enough. But in the 3rd book, he felt too mushy and gushy. I get that you love Tessa more than life itself, but he changed, and not for the better.

I agree.

OH MY GOD YOU GET ME. I mean love Jem as a brother or best friend, though. Will is more of the HUSBAND type for me. I don't even give a poopie for Simon.

I'm glad at least some people understand the universal meaning of the series. I felt as if Ms. Clare was trying to break the cliche idea of two soulmates, or something extremely typical like love triangles, such as with Edward vs. Jacob and Peta vs. Gale, when in a situation like Tessa's, she can't have just one love as an immortal being.
If anybody loves Magnus in TMI, you should understand. Magnus had loved a woman years before ID started and yet he loves Alec with the same passion.
I'm certainly not saying cp2 was perfect; I'm not blinded by my love for the trilogy to not acknowledge the imperfections. I just love the series for its characters and emotional form between the pages, as well as its philosophical ideas like "You cannot ruin a life you've barely lived" and "Love cannot be measured". Isn't it a sort of insult to put a number on love, because there's a limit? Wouldn't that mean one didn't love that person at all?
I apologize if I have offended anybody, but this is just what I think.

I just love your answer, it's like:
Jem or Simon? Duh, Jem, because he's perfect! But you know who else is perfect? Simon!
:D :D :D

Hey, i totally agree with you. It's just, Magnus is over 800 about. He has dated TONS, fallen in love with hundreds, watched them die or get killed or whatever. But he gets over them. 200 years after Will died, Tessa still wasn't over him? I understand it's hard, and you will always love them, but you should be able to love others at that point. She didn't even have friends--she only had Magnus!
