Jim Maher | 9 comments We've all got that book we remember that we still curl up with at least once a year, we know every character, every plot twist, but we still enjoy it so much.
Mine is The Witches by Roald Dahl.

What's yours?

Bethany | 578 comments Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles, #1) by Melina Marchetta , definitely. It's my favorite book and it just makes me incredibly happy. It's the only book that I have actually read twice in a row :) and many more times as well.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments I won't say it's my favorite book, but I am sure I have read Twilight more times than any other book.

message 4: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 9 comments I'll have to check that one out. Sounds really good.

message 5: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 9 comments I can honestly say I've never read Twilight. I just haven't gotten around to it.

message 6: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I've read The Dark Is Rising Sequence (#1-5) by Susan Cooper every year since I was 12 and I still love every single book.

Two I've read recently that I'll be adding to the "books I read every year" list are Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms, #1) by Kristin Cashore and Son of the Shadows (Sevenwaters, #2) by Juliet Marillier . Both awesome books with fabulous, strong characters. Love em.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments A whole lot of people love it and of course there are those who equally love to trash it. The beauty of it when I first read it was that I didn't know anyone else who had read it other than my family (2007) and we all loved it from myself to my DIL, my son, and my granddaughters. We didn't know about the rest of the world out there! Then later I found so many wonderful friends through love of this series, it became an "event" and not just a book series.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments Becca, I liked Graceling a lot and love every book Juliet Marillier has written (and own them all in hardback. I've read Son of the Shadows twice and definitely will read it again.

The only series I have ever read straight from one book to the next and then picked up the first one and read them all again was C.L. Wilson's Tairen Soul series starting with Lord of the Fading Lands

message 9: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I have listened to several Harry Potter books on audio and read them in print multiple times. When I was younger I read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume (same cover I had) and Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh over and over and over again.

message 10: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments Heidi I think I ready Tales of a Fourth Grade a few times when I was younger as well...

I've read a couple of the Dear America Diaries a couple fo times and Tithe :)

message 13: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 9 comments Harry Potter, which I didn't discover until I was an adult, I have read at least four times all the way through.

message 14: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Well, there's Outlander, big surprise. But a few that I'm not so known for would be Where the Red Fern Grows, because I love the tone to the book. It reminds me of my grandpa.

message 15: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Conway (melissaconway) Emergence by David R. Palmer. I have a very battered, yellowed copy of it. Wish he'd put it out as an ebook.

message 16: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 9 comments Where the Red Fern Grows I read in sixth grade, and I cried. Yup, I cried. Great book.

message 17: by Absentminded (new)

Absentminded Scientist (absentmindedscientist) | 2 comments Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Read it 22 times when I was in school. :p

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments I haven't read Where the Red Fern grows in years but have read it more than once. My son wore a paperback copy out when he was a kid - he carried it with him all the time and read it over and over. Can anyone read it without crying?

message 19: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 9 comments No. I don't think it's possible to get through it without crying.

message 20: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 9 comments I think the Harry Potter I've read the most is number one, once through each time a new book came out and twice more since the end.

message 21: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) i cry EVERY time I read it.

message 22: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Wendy F wrote: "i cry EVERY time I read it."

I read that one several times too Wendy.

message 23: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 21 comments The books I've read more than a dozen times each (at least the ones that first come to mind are)

All 7 Harry Potters
Stephen King's The Stand
Ender's Game
Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians

Sort of an eclectic group

message 24: by Kate (new)

Kate | 13 comments Ooh... I love this question. There are lots of favorites that have been already mentioned. Harry Potter, Finnikin, the Outlander series. Both Fire and Graceling were great. I also love the Sookie Stackhouse series (True Blood). I both love and hate the Twilight books... But my hands down, read it over and over again favorite is The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley by Robin Mckinely I've read it probably once a year since sixth grade. There's something about it... Favorite books are like comfort food.

message 25: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 9 comments They are totally like comfort food. Even if you've had it a million times, you'll go back for it again and again.

message 26: by Ali (new)

Ali | 106 comments Judy Blume books when I was a kid along with Little House on the Prairie. Throw Anne of Green Gables in for measure when I was younger. Also killed the bindings on The Secret Circle & The Vampire Diaries back in the early nineties.

Recently I'd say all of the Twilight books, along with the Poison Study & Graceling series.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments The book(s) I have read the second most are The Mortal Instruments series - four times and listened to all of the audios twice.

message 28: by Nana (new)

Nana (marsh113) | 10 comments I really love Mirror Imageby Danielle Steel. I just love the characters, storyline.. well... all.

message 29: by Theo (new)

Theo In high school I loved Maeve Binchy, and probably read The Glass Lake by Maeve Binchy , Echoes by Maeve Binchy , and Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy a dozen times each. Now I've found myself revisiting Persuasion by Jane Austen often.

message 30: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 9 comments Not that they're novels, but now that the movie is coming, I have to admit to a certain sense of smug pride knowing that I've read every single Tintin book a million times, and was introduced to him by my mother when I was four or five.

message 31: by Heidi (last edited Dec 11, 2011 11:44AM) (new)

message 32: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jsills3) | 159 comments The Stand by Stephen King , Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell , Heart of the West by Penelope Williamson

message 33: by Brittany Leigh (new)

Brittany Leigh (tark_leigh) I absolutely adore Tamora Pierce's The Will of the Empress. I've read it at least 15 times in the past 3 years.

message 34: by Holly (new)

Holly | 108 comments The last 3 harry potter books and last sacrifice, which is the final book in the vampire academy series. Love them and wish I had more time to read them all again.

message 35: by Brandi (new)

Brandi Definitely the Harry Potter series. I've probably read the first book more than any of the others.

message 36: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Deaton (lesliedeatonbooks) | 16 comments Harry Potter book 3

message 37: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments For me it's definitely The Dark Is Rising Sequence (#1-5) by Susan Cooper (every year or so since I discovered them at school), Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card (my favourite book on the planet) and The Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce .

message 38: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Oh, and The Raging Quiet by Sherryl Jordan ! Another awesome one discovered at school :)

I agree that the song of the lioness is one of the best series on earth...

message 40: by Melissa (last edited Dec 22, 2011 10:08AM) (new)

Melissa (lissy2000) | 1 comments "Ender's Game", definitely. I have been reading it every few years since the 6th grade!
And probably "Are you there God, it's me Margaret", when I was a youngin'.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I used to re-read books all the time as a child so it's hard to actually know. I read The Ancient One (The Adventures of Kate, #2) by T.A. Barron A LOT, but it was just one of many that I had on repeat.

Of recent years the first 4 Harry Potters. I've read those about 5 times (but that was back in high school)

Probably read The Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce 4 times. I don't really keep track. Sometimes I just need a Tamora Pierce fix and I go for it

message 42: by Karis (new)

Karis Jacobstein (yalitwit) | 15 comments Besides picture books read to my kids... Gone With the Wind

message 43: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylawrites89) | 352 comments East by Edith Pattou it is a wonderful story. I absolutely love the Polar Bear King fairy tale

message 44: by Emeline (new)

Emeline Naval (emelineminahnaval) | 1 comments Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer by Patrick Süskind. I read that book quite a lot.

message 45: by Diana (new)

Diana It's a tie between Meg Cabot's Shadowland or When Lightning Strikes, I would always read the entire series but every once in a while I'd just read the first and skip around.

message 46: by Jody (new)

Jody Kihara (jodykihara) | 169 comments Does it have to be a YA book? Funny, I've read so many of my YA books multiple times that I'm not sure what the clear winner would be.

For non-YA, I've read Pride and Prejudice many times... and alternate that with watching the BBC TV minseries!
My go-to books for when I have a cold and need 'comfort reading' are Georgette Heyer's The Grand Sophy and Arabella.

And then my all-time favourite series is Peter O'Donnell's Modesty Blaise series... yes, the villains are rather camp, but the rest of the characters and the writing are SUPERB!

message 47: by Janet (new)

Janet | 80 comments I reread all the time - it's hard to pick one that I reread the most. Some of my top 'comfort food' rereads are:
everything by Tamora Pierce
By the Sword by Mercedes Lackey
the Elemental Masters series by Mercedes Lackey
The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley (and many of her other books)
The Dragonsong (Pern, #3), Dragonsinger (Pern, #4), Dragondrums (Pern, #6) trilogy by Anne McCaffrey
the Heris Serrano and Vatta War series by Elizabeth Moon
the Belgariad and Elenium series by David Eddings
and (more recent but quickly catching up in number of rereads) the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire
Terrier (Beka Cooper, #1) by Tamora Pierce By the Sword (Heralds of Valdemar, #4) by Mercedes Lackey The Serpent's Shadow (Elemental Masters, #2) by Mercedes Lackey The Blue Sword (Damar, #1) by Robin McKinley Dragonsong (Pern Harper Hall, #1) by Anne McCaffrey Victory Conditions (Vatta's War, #5) by Elizabeth Moon The Elenium The Diamond Throne, The Ruby Knight & The Sapphire Rose (The Elenium, #1-3) by David Eddings Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire

Karen’s Library Janet, I also read

The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey series so often (the 1st AND 2nd trilogies) I had to vuy new copies because the books fell to pieces on me. I've reread about the first dozen books every year or so for the past few decades! The Belgariad series are another favorite! Also all of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover by Marion Zimmer Bradley the Darkover books. Another of hers that fell apart on me was The Mists of Avalon (Avalon, #1) by Marion Zimmer Bradley which I had to replace as well.

I notice that now that I have my Nook, it's so easy to find and buy new books, so I have not been rereading like I used to. But seeing this topic has got me yearning for all my old comfort books again!

message 49: by E.J. (new)

E.J. | 3 comments Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I would re-read the series each time a new book would come out and then when the majority of the films came out. Oh and I may have read it just randomly a couple of times, as well. Not that it's my favourite Potter book or anything. Just that it happens to be the first. :D

message 50: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) My mother got me a copy of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott when I was 8. I have no idea how many times I read it when I was a kid. I read Dracula by Bram Stoker the summer between 4th & 5th grade and then reread it every summer until I was a sophomore in high school. As an adult there's little I've read more than once other than The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough and Dead to the World (Sookie Stackhouse, #4) by Charlaine Harris .
