Beloved

I haven't read the book yet...

I haven't heard any of her books, but I'm definitely willing to agree that this is probably most true. Morrison writes in such a lyrical fashion that listening to her words spoken aloud must be like losing oneself into a Beethoven symphony.
And if Toni Morrison herself read it, then I am almost certain this is the case. She has the most melodic and amazing voice...I might have to pick this up from the library just to experience it in that way as well.

I'm not quite sure what was the point of starting this thread. "I haven't read it, but I heard the movie sucked" which implies you haven't even seen the movie. Sorry if I sound irritated, but I feel as if 80% of all threads started on Goodreads are movie-related. Why can't we discuss the book? Beloved is an American masterpiece and should be more widely read and discussed, including here.

Perhaps we should start some amazingly cerebral thread about the book instead. ;)

My parents once went to see it (on a Sunday), and they were so bored and so annoyed with the film they eventually walked out.
At one point my mom asked what time it was. My dad, bored to tears, gave the most humorous answer: "It's 2:00 in the morning...on Tuesday."
