Kelley Taylor (kelltay) | 10 comments The book takes place in Memphis, TN. I remember reading a thrilling scene downtown....

For some reason I'm thinking it was the first installment in a series.

There may have been some tie-in to the University...either a character or the author??

Krystal (00krystal) | 132 comments Well I would have said the Morganville Vampires series, but that's in Morganville, TX - though it does have the university.

Sorry that wasn't helpful at all. lol

Are you sure it was Memphis? Could it have been Nashville? Or somewhere else?

message 11: by Kelley (new) - added it

Kelley Taylor (kelltay) | 10 comments for sure Memphis. I remember it referenced houses on Walnut Grove.

Someone's got to know this - how many books can be about vampires in Memphis?

When you say vampires (question mark), what could it be besides vampires? What makes you think it is about vampires?

message 16: by Kelley (new) - added it

Kelley Taylor (kelltay) | 10 comments I read the book. Gosh, it's been nearly 20 years ago! That's been my exact thought: SOMEONE has to know this book!!

message 17: by ``Laurie (new)

``Laurie (laurielynette) Kelly, was Prince Mongo a character in this book?

Kelley, was the book mostly romance, erotica, suspense, horror, mystery, etc.?
What can you tell us about characters or the plot?

message 19: by Sue (new)

Sue Elleker | 1052 comments 'Fat White Vampire Blues' and sequels, by Andrew Fox?

message 20: by Kelley (new) - added it

Kelley Taylor (kelltay) | 10 comments Lobstergirl, it was definitely vampires.

Laurie, ha! I don't specifically remember. I wouldn't rule it out. :) If someone has written something like that I want to read it!

Kris, I would say it was suspense. I remember it describing large, older homes (on Walnut Grove?) where shady things happened. There was also an action (chase?) scene downtown in old warehouses (I always pictured the area near the Memphis Flyer office). There was a dark, shadowy figure (the/a vampire?). I've read so much since then, and it was 1995-97ish when I read it.

Sue, that is a New Orleans based novel.

Y'all, I did not dream this book.

Still looking.

A long shot - Blood Groove (2009) by Alex Bledsoe? A centuries-old vampire awakens in Memphis, TN. There are young vampires living in a run-down warehouse. Takes place in 1975.

Kelley Taylor (kelltay) | 10 comments Kris, Good try! It *is* Vampires and it *is* Memphis. May be worth checking out. BUT this book takes place about 20 years too soon and was published 10 years too late.

Oops, just noticed that Kate had suggested "Blood Groove" as well.

Is there lots of gore and violence?
Do you recall if the author is female or male?

Galen

This list has several "paranormal" books taking place in and around Memphis. http://www.amazon.com/Memphis-Books/l...

And I know this isn't your book, but I found it when trying to find yours and it sounds really interesting so I thought I'd share. The Passage :)

Kelley Taylor (kelltay) | 10 comments Oh. My. Stinkin. Heck.
We have a winner.
Y'all.
It took almost THREE YEARS on this discussion. I feel like. . . some kind of celebration is in order!!

Lessdance!!

Yes, yes, yes. It is The Guardian. I must have read a pre-release copy? I now must research and read everything by that author. It's not that the book was all that fantastic, but it made a real impression on me. So, yeah, there's that.

Now, as to The Passage. It is a FANTASTICALLY epic novel. I'm reading the second in the series, and the third is due out this year.

Yes, yes, yes. It is The Guard..."

Yay! I'm so glad I was able to help find your book!! I don't live too terribly far from Memphis so I'm going to have to check this book out too. I love to read books that take place near my home!
