SOLVED apprentice finds out that his master's wife is a willow tree [s]

I picked up this book from the library's book sale but didn't actually buy it. Instead I looked it up at another library and read it that way.

It's about a boy/man who is an apprentice or student to a mage/magician for several years. He live in a house that is occupied by a few peculiar people who have been changed from their actual forms. The wife of his master (whom he kills(?) in the end) is actually an old willow tree taken from a garden of old trees. The maid is actually a spider. There's a burly man that is the laborer and I don't remember what he really was. Towards the end of the story there's a girl brought in who is actually a fawn that the mage transformed.

The book ends with the apprentice restoring the willow tree to her true shape back in the grove of trees from which she originated.
