I would absolutely love to read The Little Country! I am a huge fan of De Lint and have read his Newford series as well as his newer books like The Mystery of Grace
and The Painted Boy but not this one!
Also Jack, the Giant Killer would be a good one to read too. It was my first De Lint book and I would not mind reading it again.

Kandice I agree! I'm also a huge De Lint fan and would be happy to read any of his books again! Two of my favorites are Moonheart and Forests of the Heart.

It would be hard to say which De Lint novel is my favourite. Maybe Someplace to Be Flying (Newford Book 8) or Widdershinsbut I also loved Moonheart.
I think the only De Lint works I did not like were a few of his short stories.

Ela I would like to suggest my favorite novel by Shannon Hale - The Goose Girl.
I don't know if this group already read it, but Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley is also great.

And Howl's Moving Castle is a timeless classic, it's not exactly a fairytale retelling, it's YA fantasy with MANY fairytale elements. Personally, I would love to discuss it.

Now I'm out of ideas :D.

Ela,

We've read McKinley's Beauty for the group, but we haven't read her Rose Daughter if you would like to add that to the list.

No, I don't think that Rose Daughter was very good. It was nice read, but McKinley has better.
The Door in the Hedge is great - contains four short stories - two retold fairytales (The Frog Prince and Twelve Dancing Princesses) and two original fairytales by McKinley.

I've read Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast a few times, but I never really got into Rose Daughter -glad I'm not alone.

I would like to suggest Spindle's End.(If the group hasn't read it. I'm new.)I've never read this book, but it looks pretty good.

The Goose Girl is good too.

To Beth: Same here. I reread Beauty quite often, its a wonderful book but Rose Daughter was just weird (and I don't mean solely the ending). I've read Spindle's End and it was my great Robin McKinley disappointment - a story with great potential that was left unused. I wonder how would the others like it.

Last chance to suggest. I'll put up a poll for voting sometime tomorrow.

Poll is up today.

Candace Pettit | 28 comments Woohoo, I'm glad Ela took mine since I didn't see this in time. The Bayern series is great and The Goose Girl is one of those lesser-known stories that doesn't get nearly as much screen time as it should.
