Anyone else not like Ginny?

Everyone just doesn't like Slytherine because Malfoy was in it and a bunch of other creeps, but yes, Slytherine as a house was misunderstood. Harry still should be in Gryffindor though.

As short-changed as she was in the books, she was SERIOUSLY short-changed in the movies. At least the books gave me a glimmer of why Harry ended up with her. In the movies, I didn't get his infatuation at all since there was just so little of her leading up to that point.
I really WANTED to have a strong opinion about her. I'm a natural shipper. But with Ginny, I just couldn't manage it, one way or another.

You aren't the only one.

no questions asked.

Agreed. Totally. 100 percent.

Thank you Brooke!!

That's a...really strange reason for disliking a character.

I don't know where you get the idea she didn't love Harry, because she clearly did. And it wasn't because he was famous or because she was a fangirl. She understood him which is why she understood that he had to leave her to hunt horcruxes. She appreciated how good and brave he was and believed in the importance of his mission just as he did. She didn't think Harry enjoyed having to hunt horcruxes, but she understood why he had to. He was the only one who could stop Voldemort and they both knew it.
At first Ginny's crush on Harry was surface level - of course it was, she didn't even know him. Also she was 10 like come on it was a silly school girl crush. But she moved on. She dated Dean and Michael and was happy just being friends with Harry. But then she started seeing him in a different light, and in the same way his opinion of her changed. She went from Ron's kid sister to this strong, incredible young woman that he'd had so many shared experiences and passions with. Remember, they're the only two people who know what it's like inside Voldemort's mind. And when Harry thinks he has to save Sirius from the Ministry Ginny didn't hesitate to go with him even though she was only 14. Ginny developed real feelings for Harry and if you couldn't see than then perhaps your reading comprehension level is below that of the average 12 year old's.
Onto your comments about Ginny's attitude towards the Delacour sisters. Ginny was a young girl and probably insecure in her feelings about Harry, as all young girls with crushes are. But she wasn't ever rude or horrible to Gabrielle. And in regards to Fleur, that was all about protecting her big brother. Fleur was beautiful and Ginny was wrong to assume that was all there was too her but everyone judges a book by its cover at some point. She just didn't want Bill to marry some vapid girl who only cared about looks, and when she learns that Fleur isn't like that, she is happy and accepts their relationship.
I'm not even going to comment on the idiocy that is your "fangirls are the worst people" argument.
Ginny had flaws but all good characters do. Harry and Ron were both allowed to be arseholes at some points throughout the series, so why must Ginny be perfect all the time? But she's also a strong, kind, intelligent and skilled woman and I'd think twice before calling her a bitch next time if I were you.

She is a bitch. Protecting her big brother from Fleur? By what right, exactly? She herself hated it when Ron did the same thing when he saw her snogging Dean, so her "protecting" Bill only makes her a hypocrite. Even then, calling someone "Phlegm" or even "cow" does not at all make one a kind person, quite the opposite in fact.
And what has being possessed by Voldemort got to do with anything? It's like saying Hermione should date Colin (if he was still alive) because they both know what it's like to be petrified by a basilisk. And gee, isn't it convenient that Ginevra's "skills" are only mentioned to Harry, but he never sees her using them. Winning Quidditch while he has detention or using the infamous Bat-Bogey Hex while Harry and Hermione are luring the Umbitch into the forest.
And she might not have been rude towards Gabrielle, but clearing her throat as loudly as possible just because A CHILD bats her eyelashes to Harry (who had broken up with her at that point!) shows what a jealous possessive figure Ginevra is.
No, she did not understand him at all. If she understood, she would have said Harry would not be happy unless Voldemort was DEAD, not saying he wouldn't be happy unless he was HUNTING him. See the difference? Ginevera is a silly little girl who only sees Harry as the hero he never ever wanted to be. And moving on? She admitted she never really got over Harry. Poor Michael and Dean, what chance did they ever truly have? They were only used as 'practice'. OK, I'm not one of those guys who overreact and call her a 'whore', that's really stupid, but I do feel sorry in particular for Dean who got dumped for the silliest reason of all, him being a polite guy and being unjustly accused of HELPING HER THROUGH THE PORTRAIT HOLE! Oh yeah, she's so kind to break up a relationship over that. What if it was Harry helping her through a portrait hole, would she end the relationship with him over that too?
The whole problem with Ginevra is that everything must be forgiven because she's one of the hero's friends, and a hot girl on top of that. Had it been Pansy Parkinson doing these kind of things she'd be called the b*tch that she is.
But I agree with you in one thing. Ron was an arsehole too. Apparently it runs in the family.

Although, I personally loved her anyways, but that's just my thought.

It's not about having to be forgiven because "she's one of the hero's friends, and a hot girl on top of that", it's about forgiving her because she's a HUMAN BEING. We make mistakes. Or do you only like to read about perfect characters who never do anything but stand there and smile and be nice? Real people aren't like that and I prefer my characters real. Ginny was a good person who made mistakes, that doesn't make her a bad person. Also you're taking one-time occurrences (like clearing her throat when Gabrielle looked at Harry, or the way she dumped Dean) and using them as definite proof of her personality). If you lie once, does that make you a liar? If you are rude to a friend once (maybe there are surrounding circumstances like you are overtired or upset about something completely different), does that make you a rude person? No. Oh and the only way to kill Voldemort was to destroy all of his horcruxes so it's pointless to make that distinction between the two wordings. Ginny doesn't see Harry as the hero he doesn't want to be, she sees him as the hero he has to be. Also were you insinuating that her skills are only "mentioned" to Harry because they're made up? Other characters in the book see them - Slughorn invites her to the Slug Club after seeing her Bat Bogey Hex. They just happen to happen when Harry's not around since they're in different grades and it's not like she follows him around like some weird puppy. But he sees her in the DA and fighting at the Ministry - he knows what she's capable of.

I liked Ginny in the second book, but lost interest in her as a character somewhere in The Order of the Phoenix. The way Harry suddenly fell for her also seemed particularly out of nowhere. She had great potential, but in the end she never really stood out to me. This is a shame, considering that she's the one who winds up with the main character, who didn't seem well balanced with her anyway.
I wouldn't necessarily have wanted for Harry to be paired up with someone else. I just think that J.K. could have handled it a little more realistically... or at least more interestingly.

One time occurences, oh please. Alright then, we've seen her jealousy towards Gabrielle (I repeat, a CHILD!), then Harry returns to Hogwarts, and needs all the help he can get to find Ravenclaw's diadem (at a moment a WAR is going on) and Cho is very willing to help. And then Ginevra freaks out! No, Luna will help Harry, because the jealous little bitch does not want Harry's own former crush near him.
And yes, there IS a difference between those two wordings. "I know you'll never be happy unless you're hunting Voldemort" means Harry has to do this and be the hero. "I know you'll never be happy unless Voldemort is dead" means sombody else can search the Horcruxes while Harry is safe at home without being the hero Ginevera wants him to be.
And yes, if her skills weren't made up, then why does Harry never ever see them? It would make her a more believable character. In fact, we actually see Ginevra in battle once, and then she nearly gets herself killed by Bellatrix, and then mommy must save her!
Rude ONCE? I've lost count about how rude she is to Fleur, Ron, the twins, Hermione (a moment that made Harry and Ron's jaws drop!), basically everyone who is not Harry or her mother.
And I'll ask again, if we must forgive because she's a human being, would you forgive Pansy for doing the same thing?
I actually really liked Ginny. I don't think her development was as good but then again she had her moments.

But the worst thing about Ginny? Everybody in the books keeps acting like I should like her. Everyone talks about how popular she is and how attractive she is and how good she is at Quidditch. I don't feel like I got to know her at all in the books and what I did see I disliked.
I feel like many that Rowling made a mistake in basically giving us no character development for Ginny in books 3-5 and forced her down our throats in book 6 so that it was obvious who was going to be Harry's love interest. Despite the fact, that the narrator was in love with her I never felt anything for this couple. I was much more interested in the relationship that had been developing throughout the seven books in front of our eyes, Ron and Hermione.

I like how she's daring and brave and a good example of a Gryffindor, and I think it's perfectly natural that she and Ron are often rude to each other. The Weasley family is very protective of their own and I think it was justified for Ginny to be a little cold to Fleur- especially since it was Molly, her own mother, setting the example! You'll notice that after Molly makes up with Fleur, Ginny has pretty much no problem with her.
I think Ginny makes a great example of a female character who's not a damsel in distress (in the second one, she was mind controlled and unconscious for the climax, not crying and screaming for help, so I'm leaving that out). She's strong and able to stand up to her crazy brothers. I like her.
But from an author's point of view, JK's making her the love interest seemed like the lesser of two evils. Just think: if Harry didn't like Ginny, he'd probably like no one, Hermione, or maybe Luna. Because of Ron, Harry can't really end up with Hermione. Also, no other girl character is close enough to him housewise, plotwise, or anythingwise to be the love interest except Ginny. She was the only choice and not really a bad one, seeing that he had background with her since the beginning.
So I think of all the things that could have happened, making Ginny the love interest was an okay move because it moved the plot forward (Harry's has double worry for the Weasleys' welfare now that he's dating one of them) and made sense. So I like Ginny and the love story. I only wish she was a little deeper- specifically that she had some flaws. It almost seemed like we didn't know her at all and Harry did, which should be impossible.

I couldn't quite put my finger on it myself, but I think this played a major part of why I didn't really like Harry and Ginny's romance. Like you said, he BARELY gave her a second look prior to the Half Blood Prince. Then all of a sudden he's turning his head towards her? Like no! Again like you said, it wasn't like this whole 'now that someone else has her, I realize what I missed' type of thing because --as you mentioned-- she had several boyfriends prior to this. So it CAN'T be that. If anything, it just came WAAAAAYYYYY out of left field. Rowling wrote in the Half Blood Prince that they spent the whole summer together playing their small version of quidditch over the summer (if memory serves) with Ron, Fred, and George, but it was completely summarized in one sentence (two tops) and that was it. So you don't really get to read them spending ANY actual time together (like having conversations about things they both like or have in common like quidditch or just watching movies together) whatsoever so it could feel real and it be gradual instead of rushed.
With that said, the other thing I didn't really like about Ginny and Harry's romance was that Harry "fell" for his best friends sister. I feel like that is too much of a cliche and used way too often within books, movies, and/or TV shows (YA or not). I wouldn't have this issue if I didn't read or see this all to often.
If anything, I would have LOVED to see Harry and Luna end up in a relationship. You literally see Luna and Harry spend more time together (and get to know each other) more in the Order of the Phoenix and the Half Blood Prince COMBINED than you do see Harry and Ginny spend any time with each other in the first six books ALONE! Anyone who has commented before me canNOT deny that! If Harry and Ginny were written spending more time together alone and/or with the trio talking about things they liked, I (and a lot of other people in this comment thread) would probably be fine with their relationship. But that wasn't the case. All Rowling gave us was a 1-2 sentence summary of them playing quidditch on a team against Ron, Fred, and George. And that's supposed to satisfy us and make us accept it? Pssh, how about no?
I don't have a problem with Ginny like a lot of other people here, but her with Harry in a romantic relationship when they did? No, I don't like it one bit. If Rowling wrote Harry and Ginny spending time together one on one and within the trio, I wouldn't care and would be all for it. But Rowling didn't do that. Like I said, Harry barely paid any attention to her when she had several boyfriends prior to the guy she dated before Dean and Dean himself. But then it's like wham, bam, thank you ma'am and he is SUDDENLY in love with her? I SERIOUSLY don't buy that.

Ginny IS amazing. I just think Cho was a better match for Harry.

Join the club. I was seriously disappointed.
