Just finished Judge & Jury - James Patterson & Andrew Gross. Will now read Honeymoon - James Patterson & Howard Roughan.

I have finished One Shot and I am now reading Book by Whoopi Goldberg. This is great fun, a brilliant read.

I finished The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls yesterday. Very good. I very much recommend it if you like memoirs.

Just started on Pudd'n'head Wilson this morning. I'm enjoying it so far, but only a couple of chapters in.

I am reading Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman as part of a group read. This is the third time I am reading Here Be Dragons and I still love it.

I LOVED The Glass Castle. Do you read a lot of memoirs? Have any other recommendations?

Jamie: I enjoyed the Glass Castle as well. If you liked that you might also like these two memoirs ....Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt. Also, Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs (although some of it has very graphic sex).

I also really liked Angela's Ashes as well as it's sequal 'Tis.

The Augusten Burroughs books are all really good (I've read 4 of them).

Jaime, if you like WWII books, I highly recommend The Nazi Officer's Wife and In My Hands, both really good stories from differing points of view.

Oh, and if you like memoirs about "hard-scrabble" type lives, you have absolutely got to read The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio by Terri Ryan. It is a wonderful book. The movie was alright, but does not do the book justice at all!

And if you are into some quasi-dude type stuff, Papillon by Henri Chariere(sp?) is really good too. I'm actually not sure how "true" it is though, because I have heard things about it, but I totally enjoyed it while I was reading it.

And um...have you read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt? Extremely good and his other one the City of Fallen Angels is also pretty good, but not as good as MitGoGaE.

I think that's it for now that I would recommend highly. If I can think of anymore, I will totally let you know.

Tracey, What didn't you like about Pompeii? We read Pompeii for my in person books group and it got rave reviews. Have you read Enigma by Robert Harris?

I liked Dry more than Running With Scissors actually. Quite a different tale from a later part of his life.

Hi Donna. I read the first two chapters and found it really difficult to get into. This is the first time I have read Robert Harris The book belongs to my son so, I may try again or a different one.

I finished Puddn'head Wilson today. I really enjoyed it. I guess because I haven't read any Mark Twain before, I never realized how funny he actually is. He has a very dry wit that is just crazy good.

Just started Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates today.It is at present the last book in the alpha list on my TBR shelves. I decided to start reading my books from Z-A on my shelf. meh, we'll see how long that lasts for.

I just started Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It's excellent so far. I think it's going to turn out to be one of my all-time favorites.

I'm reading Island by Aldous Huxley for my real life book club. I'm enjoying it so far in some ways, but not in others. A friend is dropping round the Kite Runner later, I'm going to read that because it has been recommended to me so many times.

I just started A Mighty Heart its about Danny Pearl the Wall Street Journal correspondent that was killed in Pakistan just after 9/11

Message in a bottle made me cry. It was a great book. I am now reading severed by Simon Kernick.

I just started The Night Watch by Sarah Waters. I am only a few pages into it, but it supposedly starts at the end and goes to the beginning. It seemed like an interesting concept to me. Plus, she's one of my favorite authors and it's the only book of hers I haven't read. She's got a new one coming out next month which I know I'll have to run out and buy!

I just read a novel called Still Alice (sorry, I don't remember the author's name). It's about a harvard tenured psychology professor who experiences early onset Alzheimer's. I know it sounds depressing, but it is not and I learned a lot about Alzheimer's. It is told from her point of view so you also experience the disease as well as learn about it.

I just finished Revolutionary Road by Yates. I gave it 3 stars, mainly because I didn't like the ending that much. I loved the last line though.

Just started Shriek: An Afterword by Jeff Vandermeer this morning. only a few pages in, but interesting so far.

Just finished reading Harry Potter and the half blood prince. I am a bit of a late starter to Harry Potter, but this is my favourite one so far as it subtlely weaves the children growing into young adults and their accompanying feelings into it. Also it is darker and the ending is left more open than the previous ones. With the result that you want to get the next one immediately.

C - I don't really know. I think I would have prefered her just taking the kids and taking off to Europe, leaving Frank behind. I think I would have liked to know her side of the story really and not just Frank's

Re Revolutionary Road, the ending was not pleasant, but overall, I thought it fitted very well. I think April's end was inevitable and appropriate (but hence somewhat predictable). Mrs Givings' reaction, whilst apparently heartless, surely just illustrates Yates' point about the superficiality of suburbia and the importance of keeping up appearances, whilst also enjoying a good gossip. As for Frank, yes he just walked away, but that seemed very believable too.

CSFR - very true. I just thought that the whole book was a downer. I dunno. It was brilliantly written, but I just didn't like it so much.

I was just wandering around town this morning and went into the discount bookshop where they had a table of 3 for £5 books. I got a double volume of James Herbert (Ghosts of Sleath and '48) a book for my husband, and Jules Verne's 20 Thousand Leagues under the Sea which I started reading on the bus home. It is one of those classics that I have never read and i thought it might be good.

Are you finding a difference in the writing styles with the different co-authors or are they all more or less the same?

Well I couldn't get into Honeymoon at the time, but loved Judge and Jury. I also love his Women's Murder Club series which has a different author writing with him as well. So very hard to say really Donna.

Thanks. I've read most of the Alex Cross novels that he wrote alone but haven't tried any of the ones he has co-authored.

I've read both "Honeymoon" and "Judge & Jury". I love them alot. I admit that Judge & Jury had more action in the story than Honeymoon. =)~

Just finished Watchmen. It was pretty good though quite disturbing in some parts.

I thought I could use a bit of a different style for a bit so I started on Mansfield Park by Jane Austen last night. Only about a chapter in so far, but it appears to be fairly standard fare for an Austen book.
