I enjoy reading horror books too. I could never get enough of them. Interview with the Vampire is one of my favorite novel of Anne Rice. I love the movie too, but not as much as the book. I hope you enjoy your read Dylan. =)~
Hi all,A friend recommended this to me,The Frg and the scorpion, I have finisged it last week.(http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61...) it's a crime action novel but with an interesting style. My mate said.."imagine a Guy Ritchie gangster film as a book". I took a punt on it and it is fantastic... reads very much like afilm, but retains some great literary poise. Wickedly amusing and the characters and dialogue are some of the best i have read. I can't find anything else from the author though....
Just finished Black Beauty - Anna Sewell. Now gonna try and read I Capture the Castle - Dodie Smith.
Finished the Cairo trilogy and almost done with this months read Lord of the flies. Also finishing up Swiss family Robinson. Now I will have to "eenie meenie minee moe", my next book since I am at a loss on what to read (not that I don't have enough on my To reads list, it's just knowing which one to pick!)
Gave up on I Capture The Castle - Dodie Smith. Decided to read King Edward VIII: The Official Biography - Philip Ziegler
Finished Crazy in Alabama a couple of days ago and I've been reading The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers. Really good so far now that it's taken off. It was a big slow in the beginning.
I'm now reading Sky Burial An Epic Love Story of Tibet. Still waiting for Lord of the Flies. Come oooooooooooon library!!
I finished The Inner Circle by TC Boyle last night. It was good but it didn't blow me away or anything. I wouldn't recommend reading it if the ghost three-way in Peony in Love got to you, though! There is lots of descriptive sex/sexual encounters/sex talk. It is, afterall, about the most famous sex-researcher of all time! Now I have to go watch Kinsey again and compare the two (Kinsey is not based on the book). I just started Jodi Picoult's new book, Handle With Care. I'm about fifty pages into it and liking it so far.
Jaime wrote: "I finished The Inner Circle by TC Boyle last night. It was good but it didn't blow me away or anything. I wouldn't recommend reading it if the ghost three-way in Peony in Love got to you, though!..."Hi, If you like Jodi Piccoult, then read nineteen minutes, I read it and loved it.
Right now I'm reading The Last Chinese Chef by Nicole Mones and Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl
I'm now reading 'Jackdaw Summer' by David Almond, which is set modern day Northumberland, and the story starts with a jackdaw leading two teenage boys to an abandoned baby.
so I decided to read Little, Big by john crowley. It is the most interesting style of prose writing I have ever read. The book is about a journey, with a touch of magic fairy and world with in worlds. It also has a dash of nonsensical dr.suessish/alice in wonderland/willie wonka whimsy that I find absalutely enthralling.
Hi Charmian,Nineteen Minutes is one of my favorites by her! There are only two I haven't gotten around to reading yet-Songs of the Humpback Whale and Mercy. Have you read My Sister's Keeper and Plain Truth? Those are my other two favorites. Did you know there was a group for Jodi Picoult fans on Goodreads?
I loved it Jenny. I would recommend it. I gave up on it a while ago and thought why did I give up on it.
I read it for TNBBC spring challenge (I'm guessing that's what you read it for two). I'm not very good with magical realism, so I didn't enjoy it!
No I've kept it I had it for xmas so its all shiney and new and I hate to get rid of books that are shiney and new :P
I am reading Holy Fools by JoAnne Harris. I am always looking for good recommendations and have found several good ones thru this website.
Hi Lisa, I read Holy Fools some time ago and thought it was very good. The subtle, and not so subtle psychological manipulation, that the priest uses to control the sisters at the convent was stunning. Unfortunately this kind of control is still happening today.
Finished reading the City of Dreaming Books yesterday. Very interesting read! The beginning is slow going, but once you get to part two, it is just craziness! I read Briar Rose by Jane Yolen today. Very moving story..
So I thought I would move on to something amusing and I am going to start Good Grief by Lolly Winston tonight.
Last night I had finished King Edward VIII: The Official Biography - Philip Ziegler. Now I am carrying on reading The Rainmaker - John Grisham.
Hi, I am currently reading Blessed: The autobiography of George Best. I love biographies and this one is great!
Just finished Noughts and Crosses - Malorie Blackman I am now listening to Girl with a Pearl Earring - Tracy Chevalier
Just finished listening to Girl with a Pearl Earring - Tracy Chevalier and now I am listening to Making Money - Terry Prachett
Started and finished Good Grief yesterday. Meh..not as funny as I hoped it would be, but definately a quick read. Just picked up The Picture of Dorian Gray by Wilde this morning. Haven't really gotten into it, but looking forward to it.
Im reading Stardust at the moment and listening to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Still haven't been to pick up Lord of the Flies :S
Jenny - If your'e are not currently reading the Graphic Novel version of that book...don't tell me cause I'll fly over to England and throw your prose copy out the window. Get your Butt over to your library and pick up the GN version please! Charles Vess' illustrations are too beautiful to not be seen while reading the book.
Jaime--I read The Innter Circle a couple of years ago and I really enjoyed it--learning some tings I never knew. I handed it over to some sex educators and they enjoyed it too!
I read The Reader a couple of nights ago because the local art institute was showing the movie at an inexpensive price last night and I wanted to see it. I definitely liked the book better, but the movie was good too. I was very curious how the plot and spare character development would be handled on the big screen. Now I have resumed reading Jodi Picoult's newest book, Handle With Care.
I'm reading Skellig by David Almond. I'd been struggling with The Crow Road and wanted something shorter. I saw this is Waterstones with a collection of books recommended by Nick Hornby. So far it's an easy and intriguing read.
Just finished City of the Horizon which was OK and now I am reading Raven Black which has really grabbed my interest.
