Love your use of polishing re. over-use of words.
LOL! Thanks Shannon.I think I'm going to have to abandon this book. I think the deal breaker for me was when she said that in 500 years we will all be speaking Chinese as it will be the language of finance and business.
p.s. my granddaughter is hanging overtop of me and desperately wants to say hi to everyone.
I've just started reading the 2nd book in the Giordano Bruno series,
... I loved the first book, and trying to get this one read to complete my GR goal for the year
I've started The Condition. I'm hoping it's a light easy read. It will replace The Turquoise Ledge in my year long challenge.
Yep still no Zombies......more than halfway through The Children of Men - stalled a little in the middle but has gotten my attention again now.I've always wanted to try Moby Dick but I've read some comments that put me off, glad to hear you are liking it Judy!
Well I finished
and I really have no idea what to read next again...this is happening to me a lot lately I wonder if I'm getting slightly burnt out from all the reading I've been doing this month.
When that happens to me I either go online and find a number randomiser, then choose the corresponding book on my TBR, or I read some short stories - they are what I consider a 'palatte cleanser' for reading :)
Nice system Kat! I think I'll just take a look at the ones I have and pick from there, hopefully something will jump out.

this is my review www.goodreads.com/review/show/193516298"I love, love , love that book! I must have read it a dozen times when I was younger.
I am reading
. Why? hmmm that is a good question lol I guess because it was a free kindle book so I got it : ) It does have some interesting facts about Christmas, how it got started, all the things we do/don't do for Christmas.
Robin wrote: "I am reading

Kimberly wrote: "Robin wrote: "I am reading

Currently reading The Hound of the Baskervilles as it has been eons since I read any Holmes and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Pragya wrote: "Kimberly wrote: "Pragya wrote: "Reading The Vincent Boys

Judy wrote: "I love Alexander McCall Smith books! I'm not much for series, prolific writers usually get stale IMO, but I like his. I hope you enjoy, Pragya."I hope so too. I'm liking it, a few pages into the book.
I am listening to Nightwoods audiobook by Charles Frazier, a harsh, but beautifully poetic book, excellently read by actor Will Patton. Just started to read Old Filth by Jane Gardam.
I have heard good things about both books, the first from the media, the second from Goodreads members.
I'm reading Jennifer Crusie's Maybe This Time. Since I write chick-litish books, I read them too. Does that sound like I should get out more? I'm reading next, Breaking Twig by Dd Epperson, a darker humored Oprah kind of book. I feel more well-rounded already!
Judy wrote: "I'm finishing up The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference(Loving it!) for my non-fiction read; starting Agaat for my fiction read and listening to [..."Looking forward to your thoughts on [bookcover:Agaat|7105495] Judy! I didn't realize it was such a long book at first!
Finished my first book for 2012 The Red Necklace by Sally Gardner, I am now reading my food challenge book The Voluptuous Delights of Peanut Butter and Jam by Lauren Liebenberg and as I always have more than one book on the go I am also reading Castaway: A Brumby Plains Adventure by Joanne van Os and Space Scout: The Big Freeze by H. Badger - these are both for various challenges as well
Sally906 wrote: "Finished my first book for 2012 The Red Necklace by Sally Gardner, I am now reading my food challenge book [book:The Voluptuous Delights of Peanut Butter and Jam|3146..."Looks good Sally! How's The Red Necklace?

I remember it being a brick and a bit of a slog to get through but interesting - good luck!
I'm not sure if I mentioned this or not, so bear with me if I repeat myself. They say that starts to happen at a certain age. I started listening to The Blood of Flowers the other day. I'm about 2 hours in and really enjoying it.Today, I will start The Oracle of Stamboul. It's a First Reads win and I've been itching to read it.
It's a beautiful book Janice (writing wise!), I can imagine it would be great on audiobook.I've not read a single page today. Far North is way over my head and The Jakarta Pandemic although I'm enjoyed what I've already read, I just......ugh. LOL.

The narrator of The Blood of Flowers has a beautiful melodic voice. It took me a bit to get used to her accent. She's not that expressive in her voice like other narrators who give a characterization of each person. Some people might find that disconcerting. Normally, that would bother me, but there is something special about the timber of her voice.
Why do you think [book:Far North is over your head? Have you started reading it?
I've read nearly 100 pages, the writing is good but it's a little slow action-wise. Perhaps I just need to read something easy to free up some brain cells!

It's unfortunate that you can't get into it.
I'm reading Honey Badger Dont Care: Randall's Guide to Crazy, Nastyass Animals. I need something funny.
I'm reading
because I started it and never finished it and would like to get done with it and move on : )
Robin wrote: "I'm reading

I really like her too!! I have a few of the Lakeshore Chronicles series but haven't started them yet. I don't like starting a series without having all of them on hand....lol just a little quirk of mine : )

Over the holidays I have read 1. The Tricking of Freya Review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
2. A Long, Long Time Ago and Essentially True. Review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
3. Monsieur Linh and His Child. Review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
4. Partitions: A Novel. Review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
5. Vaclav and Lena. Review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
The only one that I woulmd not recommend reading is A Long, Long Time Ago and Essentially True. I also gave Partitions: A Novel only two stars, but I think others are less demanding . I wanted more history.
Now I am reading Cathedral of the Sea which I do enjoy b/c it does have history drawn into the plot. It is epic in quality, but a bit cinematic in tone. I like it because I am leaning a lot about Medieval Spain, and the story is fun if a bit predictable. I have only read 42% so far.
Reading Chef: A Novel, Baking Cakes in Kigali and Love Finds a Way: 3 Modern Romances Make Falling in Love Simple and Sweet
Wow Chrissie, no wonder you've been so quiet over the holidays. You've had your nose buried in books. I really enjoyed Cathedral of the Sea. It was one of my 5 stars for 2011.
Pragya wrote: "Reading Chef: A Novel, Baking Cakes in Kigali and Love Finds a Way: 3 Modern Romances Make Falling in Love Simple and Sweet"I'm going to start Baking Cakes in Kigali soon - today or tomorrow.

It's looking good so far. Not founding any recipes though. :(

I'm now juggling four books, which I had promised myself I wouldn't do again, but you know....So right now I'm still reading Far North and The Jakarta Pandemic, but I've also started Don of the Living Dead and this morning started listening to The Power of One.
