I'm liking it too. :)

Chrissie Jud and others, I do not know if you have a Kindle, and perhaps you do not have On Gold Mountain: The One-Hundred-Year Odyssey of My Chinese-American Family on your TBR shelf, but I loved this book by Lisa See. It is my favorite by the author. It is super cheap today at Amazon. It is the Kindle Daily Deal. They are almost giving it away. :0)

Not so sure this is the right thread, but I am hoping people will soon be reading it. That is my bad excuse for placing it here.

Thanks to all you folks, my TBR is growing like crazy!

Chrissie Pragya and Judy, I really did like this book. I think it is the bes bt Lisa See, although I haven't read them all.

I searched for this book at the Kindle Store, and it must not be available in Canada because there were no results. :(

message 2556: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Janice, oh that is so disappointing. So is your Daily Deal different today? Strange.

message 2557: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I have the Kindle app on my iPad and you can no longer shop through the app. You have to go online to shop. I don't know if that makes a difference, but when I click on "Today's Daily Deal" I get a video game for Nintendo DS. :( I can't even find Kindle or Books categories in the deal section.

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Hi! Anyone wants to buy The Curse Girl at 50% off rates? I got a coupon but since I'm not using it, if anyone wants it, let me know.

It is so hard to find the same pages on Amazon. When they advertised that they would have the "Kindle Daily Deal" I bookmarked it. I am pretty sure that if you seek the title On Gold Mountain: The One-Hundred-Year Odyssey of My Chinese-American Family, the price you see is the Daily Deal Price if it is spplicable for you. Otherwise it will be the norlal price. This Kindle Daily Deal is nothing but Kindle books. No Nintendo games. That is something else. I cannot find the Daily Deals on my appliance either.

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments On Gold Mountain isn't available on Kindle in Canada. It's available on audio or paperback through Amazon.

It's available on Kobo ebooks and iBooks, but not Kindle. Go figure!

I thought this was suppose to be one world.

message 2562: by Sue (new)

Sue If you are in the U.S. I suggest subscribing to the Kindler Daily Deal newsletter. That way you are notified each day about the deal and can decide if you want it. You can subscribe on the Kindle books home page. there's also a newsletter for daily free and low priced kindle books, many/most of which are indies.

message 2563: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Sue, where exactly does one subscribe? It isn't that easy finding the right place at Amazon.

I am sure it is possible for even Europeans to subscribe if I only where to do it.

It was a beautiful book Chrissie and it actually took me a week to read it but that was because I would only read it when I could completly concentrate on it, normally I would take my book everywhere but this one got my full attention.
Its definatly going to be a tough act to follow.

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I couldn't concentrate the way I needed to on Great Expectations. There are too many thoughts running through my head and I kept wandering off. I decided to listen to The Alchemy of Stone instead. I'll go back to Great Expectations another time.

I am curious to see what you think, because I value your opinion. Hovever I doubt this can ever match up to The House by the Dvina: A Russian Childhood, which remains in a class by itself.

Alice I just found a copy of Candide in a second-hand shop yesterday, so I've been reading that.
It's pretty good so far, but it's definitely a short read.

Besides that i'm reading A Storm of Swords

Kimberly | 2033 comments I've finished We Bought a Zoo The Amazing True Story of a Young Family, a Broken Down Zoo, and the 200 Wild Animals That Changed Their Lives Forever by Benjamin Mee a good 4.5 star read (at least for me). I really enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

Now I will be starting A Virgin River Christmas (Virgin River, #4) by Robyn Carr AND In the Forests of the Night (Goblin Wars, #2) by Kersten Hamilton . I loved the first book in the Goblin Wars Trilogy so much I'm so glad I got a copy of the second from the library today.
For YA fiction it's really good. Here's my review of the first book http://turningthepagesx.blogspot.com/... though keep in mind its one of my first reviews that I wrote.

I couldn't get into Where Angels Go by Debbie Macomber so I've put that to the side for now.
So I'm pack to A Virgin River Christmas (Virgin River, #4) by Robyn Carr and In the Forests of the Night (Goblin Wars, #2) by Kersten Hamilton .

The Homecoming of Samuel Lake - it's one I'm doing with Jeff

House of Spirits - Allende - reading that for Book Talk

The Time Traveller - an audio - doing that while playing Scrabble at Face, etc.
