Really enjoying Pope Joan A Novel. It is set in the 800s and I am not that familiar with the time period so I don't know how accurate the history is but the author does have fairly detailed notes at the end. Regardless, it is a good story, interesting characters, and it really moves along.
How was I am the Messenger? I have that on my TBR, but I just haven't picked it up yet.I just finished People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks. It was pretty good and an interesting look at an interesting history. But not stunning. I am now starting on Wuthering Heights, just cause the small size of it was messing up my pretty bookshelf.
Some ppl loved it, myself, it was ok as far as a book is concerned. I never thought it was a Terrific book. You would need to read it Heather to make up ur mind hun xx
Finished The Mentalist - Rod Duncan. I also read Sleepover Club Makeover - Jana Hunter. I am now gonna read Sleepover Girls Go Green - Angie Bates.
Donna- I enjoyed pope joan too! I have an affinitiy to rebelious, taboo breaking women though because I aspire to be one.Heather- Omnivores dillema was fabulous, makes you think twice about what you are eating.
I am finishing up the hand maids tale and just started Palace Walk by Naguib Mafouz
Just finished Sleepover Girls Go Green - Angie Bates. Will carry on reading Skin Privilege - Karin Slaughter.
They are Young Adult or kids books so far. I also tend to take advantage of kids at school (DD is special needs) and when kids are in bed, I can go to my room and read lol.
Got my copy of Fool by Christopher Moore today. SQUEE! So...of course, I had to put down Wuthering Heights and read Fool. Besides, Chris M. is going to be in town for his book signing on Thursday and I just gotta have it read by then! I'll pick back up WH after I'm done.
Hubby read 120 pages yesterday as he is reading Red Dragon - Thomas Harris I read abour 137 pages of Skin Privilege - Karin Slaughter which I am enjoying at the moment.
Started Tomorrow's Treasure by Linda Lee Chaikin, really liking it, it's part of a trilogy, from the library so have to hurry.
I am also readin The Anatomy of Deception - Lawerence Goldstone & The Witch's Trinity - Erika Mailman. Both are mobile library books from a booksite I belong to. Which is why I have to read them both asap.
I am reading two books right now - The Story of Edgar Sawtelle A Novel and The Audacity of Hope Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.
I'm reading Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and loving it. I had meant to read it for some time now, but I just hadn't gotten around to it. I love time travel, strong women, and all things Scottish, so it is a good fit for me.
Meghan, I just finished Edgar Sawtelle, and loved it. I passed it to my sister without spilling the ending. I'm not especially a dog lover, but the descriptions of the dog/trainer interactions were fabulous, so real. I am reading The Red Scarf (Kate Furnival) now, about Russia, concentration camps, and two young women's stories. So far, scary but hopeful (well, I'm hopeful it won't get too terrible).
I've moved on the book 2 in the Outlander series, Dragonfly in Amber, because I can't get enough of Claire and Jamie.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon Got the recommendation from another group. I liked the idea it takes place in Scotland, it is Historical Fiction, which I don't often read but do like. I haven't read a series in a while.
I just started The Inner Circle by T.C. Boyle. It's an account of Alfred Kinsey and the men who worked with him in his study of human sexuality. It's historical fiction, not a biography/historical account. I'm fascinated by Kinsey and his work and loved the movie that came out a few years back! I'm really psyched to be reading the book even though it seems to have very mixed reviews.
Thank you thank you thank you Fiona! I just started I am the Messenger yesterday and after finishing it today, I have to say that I loved it! some of Zusak's phrases are just so beautiful it makes you really think about how that would feel or look. Can't praise it enough, though I don't think it's much of a YA novel. So...Picking up True History of the Kelly Gang by Peter Carey tonight. I'll see how it goes. Also trying to plod my little self through Arabian Nights, a giant classic large enough to kill a small animal or child. We'll see if I get through that this year cause I am reading it in very small doses!
You'll have to let me know what the true history of the kelly gang is like as I've had it on my shelf for aaaaaages!!
jaime let me know if the kinsey book is worth reading. I am fascinated about him too (A scientist how used himself an collegues as test subjects! Yikes!)
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess because the title was perculiar and i know it has had great reviews.
I am reading two books at once, breaking dawn by stephaine meyer, its brilliant. I have read the previous 3 books and all equally good. The other book is by Suzanne Brockman, Over the Edge has anyone else read her books.
Just finished The Anatomy of Deception - Lawerence Goldstone (ML). Will read Martin Misunderstood - Karin Slaughter & The Witch's Trinity - Erika Mailman (ML)
Just finished Martin Misunderstood - Karin Slaughter. Will now read The Witch's Trinity - Erika Mailman
Just finished True History of the Kelly gang. Quite good. 4 starsStarting Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz (book 4)
The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1)by Scott Lynch
best book I have read this year...hard to believe that its his debut novel!!!
I've just started reading Like Water for Chocolate. It's only a thin book so thought I could fit it in before I start to read Lord of the Flies. Not that it's come in at the library yet :(
I will Jenny...I'm loving it so far. The main character kind of reminds me of Captian Jack Sparrow...

Like Water for Chocolate is one of my favorites. I love magical realism and Latin American literature.
I just finished Going Down by Jennifer Belle and really enjoyed it. Next up will be either Almost French Love and a New Life in Paris or Practical Magic.

I started 'Shadows on Our Skin' by Jennifer Johnston earlier today. It's set in mid '70s Northern Irelandduring the 'troubles' focusing in close-up one family and the friendship between a troubled schoolboy and a teacher, and also the backdrop of the IRA and the British Forces. It's a subject I've never read about, and so far,it's excellent. The novel was actually short-listed for the Booker Prize of '77.
Now finished Poems from The Lord Of The Rings - J.R.R.Tolkien. Gonna read Black Beauty - Anna Sewell
