I've wanted to read this one for a while. I'm only through the introduction but it sounds promising."
I have this one. Let me know if you really like it and I'll read it now as well.

I have startedThe Homecoming of Samuel Lake and hope I enjoy it as much as on Canaan's side.

This was recommended (well, mentioned) by a friend in a book group who thought it was too sexy. I immediately had to check out the series but so far have been disappointed.

Judy, have you read My Life in France by Julia Child? Five star, favorite book for me and for a lot of people.

I never say this, but I will go out on a limb and say that I think you will love My Life In France. It is so charming because she loves everything about France: the people, the food, the culture and her husband and you enjoy all her pleasures as she describes them. it takes you through her first ever French and gourmet meal upon her arrival in Paris through her beginning to learn to cook, etc. Okay, I'll stop now.

There's one thing better than reading about food; eating food!

Sounds like a really interesting book Janice, looking..."
I just saw this book on Amazon yesterday and was immediately intruiged. I can't wait to hear more about it.

How old is your grandson? Is this too mature for middle-school?

I barely broke the cover. :) I haven't finished the first chapter yet. I hear that people have a hard time putting it down though.

Now I'm reading Old Filth by Jane Gardam. Heard it's a great read.

I've started listening to Fahrenheit 451. I loved that movie but have never read the book.

I am just starting Testimony for a bookclub read and hope I like it.

I can give it another try at another time. Perhaps I was just tired when I was driving home the other day. Well, not perhaps... I was tired.

I really don't like the main character much, but the writing is very good.

I'm about to start Tenderness Of Wolves for our September discussion. I hope to start it tonight.

Thanks for the recommendation Chrissie. I have the book in paperback to read. I hope to get to it one day soon.
It's good to see you back. I was beginning to wonder if you were ok.

I had started the audiobook Byzantium but couldn't get past the monotony of the narrator, so quit about 2 hours in. This morning I will start Firefly Lane. I think it will be a nice change in pace from what I've been reading lately.
I'm going to hold off on an ebook until September and then I'll start one for our September challenge.

Now I am reading The Big Rock Candy Mountain. Stegner really has an ability to depict his characters!

I bought this wonderful book in Sweden called Fågelsång. You get pictures of birds and by pushing a button you hear birdr songs and twitter when they are scared or are trying to attract other birds. It is fabulous if you do not see so well b/c you hear the bird and know it is out there. There are 150 birds in the book. Wonderful pcitures too. Even my three year old grandson now knows the sounds of many, many birds. You do not need your eyes or binoculars! :0) Wonderful book! TREMENDOUS. I do not think it has been translated into English. :0(

Goodreads has been behaving for me lately. I haven't seen the Alice in Wonderland picture saying the site is unavailable in a few days.

I just finished The Big Rock Candy Mountain. I wanted to taste Wallace Stegner, that everyone says is such a fabulous writer. I am glad I read it but it was just too depressing for my tastes. Yes, the author does magnificently depict his characters. My spoiler-free review explains my views: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... .

I am just starting Someone Knows My Name

That reminds me.... I stilll haven't read Olaudah Equiano autobiography.

So far I am loving it Chrissie, busy couple of days just not getting enough time to read !! Hoping to get a few hours quiet time at weekend.

I'm feeling the same way about The Forest of Hands and Teeth. It must get better if you're on the third one. Are they all slow to get started?

Someone Knows My Name
here is my review http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...
I am now reading City of Thieves

I also recently finished Blessed by Thunder: Memoir of a Cuban GirlhoodBlessed by Thunder: Memoir of a Cuban Girlhood which I could not complete, but wish I could have. This I gave four stars to! My spoiler free review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Now I will read The Last Station: A Novel of Tolstoy's Last Year. I will next year attempt to read 52 books from 52 different countries. I have too many "must read" books for the Russian Federation, so I will take one from the list now. Doesn't it look interesting?!
