Recently finished reading Nicholas and Alexandra and The Tricking of Freya. Both were 4 star books for different reasons. I have to say, Christina Sunley's writing style and subject matter were refreshingly unique. Now I'm reading A Corpse in the Koryo.

Re-reading "In The Balance" - Harry Turtledove. Back in the 1200's the aliens sent a probe to Earth to see if it is habitable. And to the aliens, who adapt to change about as fast as a sloth on Valium, how much could Earth change in 800 years. Only to arrive here in the middle of World War II. They have technical superiority, we have numerical superiority, and we are on the verge of jet planes and nuclear weapons. A great book with guerrilla warfare, alien abductions and unusual alliances.

I am reading the Good Thief by Hannah Tinti, the December book choice for my local reading group. I have only just started the book (I'm up to page 19), but so far I am really enjoying it.

I am reading Uglies - Scott Westerfeld

Kat/Kathy, just finished reading the Poe Shadow on the weekend and I loved it. But now I have a dilemma, do I read the Dante Club or the Last Dickens next? Which do you think?

I'm now starting on The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson, Lost Lives by David McKittrick and The Penguin Book of Welsh Short Stories edited by Alun Richards, all of which are from the Hay book stack.

I finished Burton's The Melancholy Death Of Oyster Boy & Other Stories quite quickly, and will start Alcott's Little Women in a bit.

Recently finished The Broken Teaglass A Novel, A Corpse in the Koryo, and Sink Reflections. The first two were slightly disappointing. Sink Reflections, however, spurred me on to get my house cleaned and organized...hopefully, long term :-) Now I'm reading Eli the Good.

Totally adored and this is what I thought of it When I started readin this, I thought omg, what kind of book have I got here. I heard loads of rave reviews about this book, so I thought this might help me get back to readin again. WELL, what can I say about this book. It certainly gives you an insight to what we wanted to see of kids at the age of 16 and havin operations to be made like a supermodel. I can't wait til I read more on how Tally changes and her life.

8/10 for me on this book and series so far.

I loved Lamb, very funny in parts but then as you realize how the story will turn out it becomes very poignant as well....

Just finished Pretties. Wow, what a book. Had me stuck to it over the past 48hrs. This is a great 2nd book for this series. Shows you how Tally and the gang start thinking for themselves and all the trouble they get into lol. Can't wait to see what happens next in the next installment.

I would say 8/10 again for me.

I just started The Help. I have had a lot of trouble getting into a book lately. My husband got a new job two- hours away and we are trying to sell our house. For the time being, he's commuting four hours a day in snow country (Northern New York State/Canadian border area). Four hours is in good weather! It's been insane and stressful and my mind can't seem to stay focused on a book lately. I had a couple of minutes of free time today in between Christmas shopping and stopped by B&N and picked up The Help. I really got into it and ended up buying it and bringing it home. Hopefully, it keeps my interest!

I'm now reading The Historian and hadn't realised it is a vampire book (didn't read the blurb on the back when I bought it, just heard it was worth reading lol), still enjoying it so far.

At the time of reading I thoroughly enjoyed it (and couldn't put it down) but having had time to reflect on it, I realise that, at best, it is a 2** or 3*** book.

Nope I didn't like it at all either. The film is coming out in January in the UK. Not sure I can bring myself to watch it!!

Because I really enjoyed the film, I am reading 'The Shining' and, as I really enjoy some of his work, John Irving's 'Last Night at Twisted River'.

Ooo - I love the movie The Shining. Then I read the book and realized how much better the movie could have been. Stephen King was actually involved in a TV Miniseries version of The Shining in the '90's that stayed true to the book - he was not involved in the Kubrick film. It was neat to see the topiary visually!

Thanks for that Molly; I've read the 1st 5 chapters and there is a lot more depth to the characters (especially Danny) then there was in the movie.

Although I enjoy the movie, my memory of it is that it is a Jack Nicholson vehicle, superb though he is in it!

I have never seen the mini series. Is it worth a watch? I'm a huge fan of the Kubrick film and of the book.

yes it was on both accounts :)The miniseries, for where it falls short in special effects, follows the book more closely.

Yes - that's the one. I didn't particularly like the cast - but I liked the presentation of the original plot from the book. I thought the mini-series was good overall since I was a fan of the book and wanted to see it visually. But the performances in the movie are far better and it is awesome in its own interpretation.

Hey all

I am new and would love to add some people as friends, so please add me. I just finished reading Kissing Frogs in Cyberspace and All of Jen Lancaster's books. LOVED THEM...They are so good. What I like about Frogs is that it pulls you in from the beginning....and it is hilarious. The other thing that I like is she a new author and she answers emails from people all the time. I wrote to her because she had an email in her book and she responded write away. Lancaster has a very funny blog.

As a complete departure from my last book, a quirky romance, I am about to start "Hiroshima" by John Hersey.

What happened??? I think books and rabbits have something in common. I joined Goodreads at the end of March this year. At that time I registered my books and had about 104 on my to-read list. Since then I have read 47 books. But now, my to-read list is 128 books. So much for my goal of getting below 100! The worst part is that to get on my to-read list I have to physically have the book. So if I stop posting in the near future it is because I have passed away under an avalanche of paper. Death by library. At least I will go with a smile on my face(and a slim wallet in my pocket). Is this a common problem???

I'm reading a novella called Girls in Peril A Novella. It's okay so far. Some of the reviews have likened it to The Virgin Suicides, only the latter was thought to be much better. I've never read it, so I can't really comment.

Someone (from this site?) recommended this book Harry, Revised by Mark Sarvas and I just got it from the library.

The 1st 2 chapters are amusing setting the scene with Harry attempting and failing to chat up a way too young waitress on the way to his wife's funeral.
