I'm reading So Brave, Young and Handsome A Novel by Leif Enger because I really liked Peace Like a River by the same author. When I finish this, I'm going to start Duma Key by Stephen King because it has been a long time since I've ready anything by him - some of his I have loved, others I didn't even finish. This one has some pretty good reviews, so I've got high hopes.

The Book of Lost Things - my new favorite book. A bit violent, with quite a good sense of humor. More Brothers Grimm than Mother Goose.

I just started The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. It is a true story and was recommended as one of those books that freaks you out so much you can't sleep. So far chapter 1 was the most terrifying thing I have ever read.

I have been picking away at 3 men in a boat for quite awhile. At least its one you can pick up and put down, you certainly don't lose anything by not reading it through. I will eventually finish it and its not that its bad per se but it is a bit silly here and there. Let us know your thoughts if you finish it Fiona.

Hi Vicki and Terri, I live in Reston and lived here while The Hot Zone took place. Funny thing was no one knew what was going on at the time. Really scary to read later on and to think I walked right by the building.

Today, I have been readin and listenin in bed. Here is what I have read The Cave - Kate Mosse & The Okinawa Dragon - Nicola Monaghan. I have listened to Falling Into The Limelight - Peter Sallis.

I am currently reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne because my son (7)has seen a couple of movies based on his works in french and this was his choice for a bedtime story. I am impressed that he is sticking with it as it is pretty detailed. We have previously read it in an abridged dumbed down version.

I am also reading Their Eyes Were Watching God for my real life book club.

As for 3 Men in a Boat, I think I came across it by googling light, funny read (because I was looking for something to give a girlfriend as she was going to hospital to battle breast cancer). This one seemed to fit the bill - no medical emergencies, easy to put down when she got tired etc. unfortunately our bookstore didn't have it but I was intrigued so I got them to order it in for me. (I bought her the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency). And those crazy men (and their dog) have been poling up the river slowly ever since! LOL. I will finish it.

I heard about it here on Goodreads when a GR Friend reviewed it and gave it the thumbs up. Our library doesn't have it - I think they are going to have to borrow it from one of the other branches participating in their network.

This book is the 9th in her Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series, one of my favorite series. I've been waiting four years for another one and am loving it.

I am just about to start "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society". What appealed to me was Guernsey itself. You don't often find books about the Channel Island. Plus it is a marked departure from "Girl' Interrupted" which I just finished.

Finished Wild Swans. At times it was a very hard trek along with the author...but it was pretty decent in the end. It dropped in star power for me because about 350-400pgs into it I just stopped wanting to read it flat out, but I kept with it, so I gave it a solid 3, thought it was worth about 3.5

Oh yeah...Just started re-reading Un Lun Dun because I'm going to see China Mieville in about 3 weeks and I thought I should at least read something of his again, though I have already read 4 of his books.

I just started Briar Rose. I've been into fairy-tale re-tellings lately and Sleeping Beauty has always been one of my favorites. This book is an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, so I thought it should be pretty good. I really like it so far.

I haven't read those yet, but I think I put them on my to-read list a while back. I remember hearing about them. I'll have to double check that I actually did add them. Which one would you recommend first or is there a specific order?

Jamie, there is no specific order to read them in. They are all just anthologies of short stories that are fairy tales for adults. No, they are not erotica or anything, but there are definately elements of the stories that are not for children's eyes. Think the original Grimm more than disney if you will.

I finished Un Lun Dun and I loved it just as much this time. Darn Mieville is great author! I can't wait to see him next month!!!

Just now picking up The Serpent's Tale by Ariana Franklin. It's the sequal to the Mistress of the Art of Death. I'll see how I like it. (book 58 for the year, btw)
