SF book, series of at least 3, pub 60's, 70's or early 80's. About a guy who had gone thru a program and been enhanced (stronger bones, etc) but had left. When he would get into relative proximity of those who had gone all the way thru the program, he would "speed up". They were the "bad guys" and he was the "good guy". He was traveling planets. corporations ran everything. In one book, the "bad guys" were working the people to death, however they were not aware of it as a signal was being broadcast to make them feel like they were in a normal situation. The "good guy" was trapped until by chance one of the "bad guys" walked by and he sped up to become aware of his surroundings. Just remember bits and pieces.
