Ruby What do you think? Who portrayed who the best? Worst?

Cassidy Mills I think Daniel Radcliffe did an amazing job as Harry! I can't remember who said this at the premiere, but one of the cast members said that Daniel WAS Harry Potter. I think he's a great actor who really got to know his character and put heart into who Harry is. He also generally looks like Harry, not too "hot", just...normal.

I also think Rupert and Emma did a great job with their characters. Rupert really got the quirkyness of Ron and, esp. in the last movie, represented the hurt and resentment he was going to when he started to become jealous and left out. Emma really embraced Hermione and you could tell that she was just as smart and witty as Hermione, and she cared about her character, she really wanted her story told. She also portrayed how strong Hermione became over the years: this was really represented starting from the fifth movie.

I also think the rest of the cast really took on their characters, I can't name a bad pick off the top of my head right now. The major stand outs are of course Matthew (Neville), Evanna (Luna), Tom (Malfoy), and Alan Rickman, who just embodied Snape wholeheartedly and made him as cold and heartbreaking as he was in the books.

Ruby Yeah, I think the trio did really well. Alan Rickman, Evanna Linch, Tom Felton, they all did well. You're right, every time I see that scene where Ron leaves the tent, it gives me shivers. Who did you did badly? Because everyone did really well...Umm....

Sarah I think (don't kill me guys) that Dan Radcliffe was a bit of a wet Harry Potter, particularly towards the end of the series. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are great actors though, and did their parts amazingly, and I think the Irish accent from Evanna really suited Luna's character. Alan Rickman was such an awesome Snape. And Tom Felton makes Draco too cool for school, but still being like the Draco in the book. I think Matt is great at being Neville - he was the right amount of whimpiness in the beginning and then the right amount of awesomeness later on. I think Bonnie Wright made Ginny was possibly slightly stuck up in the films, however. I love Fred and George - they were spot on. and McGonagal is just simply awesome. I think Dumbledore in some parts (the second actor) was slightly harsh.

No, I agree. Daniel Radcliffe wasn't the best, and I really didn't like Bonnie Wright as Ginny. She's too passive--she's supposed to be an awesome, well-liked fighter!

Valerie I thought it was cast well. However I didn't picture N. Tonks character the way she was in the movies, and as much as I love Rickman as Snape (I think he improved the character) the story Snape wasn't that hot.

Ali Richard Harris was Dumbledore, he was great and had the right tone for Dumbledore and then came Gambon. Dumbledore does not scream nor shake children, Gambon totally ruined Dumbledore.

Another person who ruined a character was Gary Oldman, this guy just screamed and wailed right and left in the shrieking shack scene and was simply a lunatic. Last I checked the one thing that set Sirius from other azkaban dwellers was that he didn't go completely crazy.

Emma Ahlaam said, "Richard Harris was Dumbledore, he was great and had the right tone for Dumbledore and then came Gambon. Dumbledore does not scream nor shake children, Gambon totally ruined Dumbledore."

I totally agree with you about Dumbledore. Richard Harris did a great job, but Gambon ruined the character. Also, Emma Watson as Hermione and who ever plays professor McGonagal are awesome. (Those are my three favorite characters, btw) And Fred and George are AMAZING!!! Plus Nevile and Luna were awesome too. I guess Rupert Grint did portray Ron well (I'm not much of a Ron fan). Daniel Radcliff was ok as Harry. I'm pretty sure Emma Watson is my favorite, though.

george ☽ I loved all of the cast, especially Daniel, Emma and Rupert.

Lisa Oh Ahlaam (and Emma) I so agree!!!! In fact I wince when I see the later movies, and grit my teeth and ask Why???? I thought that Gambone didn't understand the character at all. He was supposed to be playing this wise master character, the wise old man teacher-master-father even (in a mystical sort of universal sense), and yet in Gambone's Dumbledore was so run by these big emotions - and yes, shaking children - (huh???) None of that poise that comes from having been through so much and being so intelligent and wise, you just don't steam up and boil over that way when you're supposed to be the wise master. Which isn't to say he wasn't flawed! Of course he was, which was part of the point of the whole story. But not in that way. I kept wishing with every movie he'd be replaced - for instance by Sir Ian McKellan! (dream on, I know).

Vampireacademyrocks I think Helena Bonham-Carter and Alan Rickman played their parts the best. I didn't like Bonnie Wright as Ginny.

Yue McGonnagall, Lucius Malfoy, the twins are among my favorites. I love the trio, but I'm not a big fan of their acting (especially Dan and Emma). And the actors I didn't like at all are Gary Oldman as Sirius (I agree in everything Alhaam has said) and also David Thewlis as Lupin (soft, sweet, caring Lupin is portrayed as tough, too serious in the movie)

Ciara Each have their own way of portraying their character, and they did an excellent job. (I think Gary Oldman was awesome, Sakura). Also, Evanna Lynch was excellent as Luna, really believable, and Irish!!! :)

Mel (Daily Prophecy) I think that everybody was great, but I only disliked the way they made Narcissa look.. Her hair!!

But if I must choose my top 2:
-Alan Rickman; Snape.
-Helena Bonham-Carter; Bellatrix.

Ruby Does it bother anyone that in the books (at least in USA) the illustrator gives Snape a goatee? It always irked me...

Really because I can't imagine Harry Potter being played by anyone else. If you could explain more why you don't like Daniel Radcliffe that would be great.

❀angela I was very disappointed with Bonnie Wright (Ginny) and Natalia Tena (Tonks). These women were supposed to be spunky but their acting made the characters look passive and emotionless. -_____-

I also liked the Dumbledore in the first two movies rather than his replacement. Michael Gambon (Dumblebore #2) seemed too jumpy while Richard Harris (Dumbledore #1) seemed wise and powerful.

I agree. Although, I did like the Irish accent that Micheal Gambon added to Dumbledore. I also think he was okay in the 7th and 6th.

Vymletoza long post :)
the best: Snape, Draco
the worst: Ginny, Bellatrix

I didn't like Draco (as character) in the book, and neither in the movie. But Tom Felton did a great job in portraying Draco. I first recognized it in the last movie, but looking back, he did a good job even in the first movie. he was exactly the way how Draco was in the books.

Snape was definitely the best, as he IS after all Alan Rickman. God, he is scary.

I think Neville was good in previous movies, but kind of lost his character by the 5th one. not that he wasn't good, but lost his clumsyness.

from the trio Rupert displayed Ron the best, then Ema. But I too don't like Daniel that much.

other good ones: Umbridge (that enoyiness, how did she do that?), nearlyheadless Nick, Victor Krum, Molly, I liked Oliver Wood too, McGonnagal and the Weasley twins.

and the bad ones: Bellatrix (horrible, never imagined her that crazy, I know she was mad, but this was just too much), Tonks (was on the other hand too normal), Myrtle, Ginny (horrible, worst, bad....).

Regarding Dumbledore, I actually liked the second one. Was more quirky or something.

Ruby I loved John Cleese as Nearly-Headless Nick!

message 22: by Luke (new) - rated it 5 stars

Luke Best: Ron and Harry
Worst: can't think of anyone

message 23: by Mel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mel (Daily Prophecy) I liked the second Dumbledore too. The first one was perfect for the 2 first movies, but after that, Dumbledore get's a bit tougher in the books and I don't think that he was up to that.. He was just too sweet and lovely to be harsh.

The only thing I didn't liked was the way they portraited Dumbledore in the 4th movie. When he yelled at Harry when his name popped out of the Goblet of Fire.

Tanvi In order then:

BEST:

Alan Rickman (the best)

The twins (the coolest)

Gary Oldman (Oh cmon... He completely portrays the cool godfather)

Helena Bonham-Carter (that madness...)

Rupert Grint

WORST:

Bonnie Wright, out and out. Come on, Ginny is supposed to be so bloody cool!

I completely agree! Bonnie Wright is awful. She's so passive.

Olivia Whoever it was who played Ginny was HORRIBLE! She almost ruined the whole movie for me!

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I LOVE them all except for Bonnie Wright. she wasn't terrible, but I just didn't like her very much! Emma Watson was my favorite!!! I think she's AMAZING!!!

Lauren The three main characters did amazing, as well as most of the Weasley family. I think they casted Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Snape very, very well. Voldemort was okay, but most of the other characters for me just weren't what I pictured in the book.

Lauren Oh and let me add to that. The second Dumbledore was amazing, and the first one... well, let's keep it polite here. He was, like, withering on the spot.
