Hi,

It seems we need at least one more John Harris: British, b. Rotherham 18/10/1916 d.7.3.1991. This one (John Harris) is still living in California.

Wikipedia credits the following to the late Yorkshireman:
Up for Grabs
Cotton's War
the-fox-from-his-lair
Cotton's War
Covenant With Death
The Sea Shall Not Have Them
Ride Out the Storm
Thirty Days War
Light Cavalry Action
Take or Destroy
Smiling Willie and the Tiger
The Victors
So Far From God
Mustering of the Hawks

Also, checking the jacket of my copy shows that he wrote:
without-a-trace

to be continued...

Hi,

LofC showsA Treehouse of Your Own: A Step-by-Step Guide to Building an Amazing Treetop Retreat as a different John Harris b.1956.

Kind regards

Violetta | 477 comments awesome work! I will help you with this :)

message 8: by Violetta (new)

Violetta | 477 comments Ok the man from message 5 is now John^^^Harris and the man from message 4 is John^^^^Harris. The man from messages 1,2,3 will be John^^Harris. The children's book author remains John^Harris. Oh, and message 7 will have to settle for John^^^^^Harris. Additionally, I will put a librarian's note on each author's page regarding the disambiguation. Will post links when done :)

Done, but that might have opened up another can of worms, as John R. Harris exists.

Hi Violetta,

I have looked at John R Harris and most of what I have looked at under his entry is correct (per LofC). There is one that looks iffy but I shan't get into that just yet.

Kind regards

Violetta | 477 comments Here we go:
(1) John Harris = children's book author
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

(2) John Harris = b.1916, war novels
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

(3) John Harris = b.1945, medical ethics/bioethics
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

(4) John Harris = b.1956 (the treehouse book)
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

(5) John Harris = b.1969, music/britpop
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

(6) John Harris = b.1952, social work and care
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

(7) John Harris = b.1951, child psychology/education
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

The number in parentheses indicates the number of spaces in the disambiguation.

EDIT: I am changing the children's author from one ^ to eight because, upon further investigation, he only has 6 books to his name, and there are over 200 still waiting for "disambigging". So. The single space John Harris will be ambiguous for a while, and (8)John Harris will be the children's book author.

EDIT 2: Turns out there is another children's book author as well (http://www.johnharristhestoryteller.c...). Welcome (9)John Harris: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

Violetta | 477 comments One more comment regarding (2)John Harris - he wrote under the pseudonym Mark Hebden as well, for his Inspector Pel series. I've linked them in their respective "about this author" sections, but does anything more need to be done? I can't remember the policy due to Harris-induced mania. @.@

That's about all that can be done, unless there are specific books published under both names.

Ok, either myself or someone else will have to double check on that (only about 24 books in the Ins. Pel series).

P.S. @rivka, I sent a message to Michael regarding the master list of disambiguation, and linked to this comment thread to find out if he could add the various Harris' to it. If he no longer can, are you able to modify it?

Shoot. I must say, I was very impressed with the list, but you're right, it's too much for one person. Ho hum.

The "similar authors" feature on each author has much of the same functionality, and is author-specific and automatic.

You can find the "similar names" link on every author's edit page, on the left near the bottom. It's with the disambig link and the librarian log link.

Hi,

I've looked into John R. Harris. Four of the books are OK.

Recent Advances in Sexually Transmitted Diseases And AIDS should be under John Robert William Harris.
The Battle for Hong Kong, 1941-1945: Hostage to Fortune should be John R Harris d.o.b.1919.
I haven't found the Moon one yet.

Hi,

Our original John R Harris is on the faculty of University of Texas at Tyler whose website http://www.uttyler.edu/litlang/cv/joh... says that he wrote Footprint in the Snow, so that's all right then. So much for the Library of Congress.

Kind regards
