@ Todd I did a comparison years ago and found (in this particular case) that the abridged version almost made no sense.

I am so bad at audio books, but I have found I do okay with the non-fiction. I just finished In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto and am currently on Happy Accidents.
I'm currently listening to Ghost Night, by Heather Graham. It is the second in the Bone Island trilogy. I like it, but it is not very scary so far.

Unabridged is the preference I choose, I like having the whole story and not something watered down.....I've got swan song too but haven't started it yet. I'm currently listening to afraid by kilborn narrated by Phil gigante who is awesome!
Man, I can't imagine listening to Afraid. That's an experience. I don't mind if something is abridged or not, I'm just trying to occupy my mind on a commute. The library doesn't ever purchase abridged audios though, and this is where I get mine from.
I'm still listening to one from a month ago; no telling what the fines are.

I had Dean Koontz' relentless audio book out for almost a year before I took it back .....and haven't tried to check anything else out since!
My library has a $5 maximum dues fee. I'm not sure what they'd do about having borrowed something for almost a year, though. lol.

It was an awesome book, I loved it!
The audio of both Afraid and Endurance were very good.Currently listening to Into the Darkest Corner. Pretty good so far.
I started listening to Mildred Pierce, but the annoying stage actress kept reading the narrative and descriptive texts like dialogue. Ugh! Had to return it to the library and I was excited to hear the story.
Checked out I Claudius for one day before returning it. The British reader spoke with that clenched draw upper crust accent, slurring his words at points to where I couldn't understand him. Now listening to Any Given Day by Dennis Lehane and love the reader. Starts off with some boring baseball chapters, though. Hope it picks up.
Finishing up Fire Starter and going to listen to Dreamcatcher again, next. Should start it on Saturday, remember it being excellent! HTTP://justafewmorehours.blogspot.com

Liked it very much Tracy. Sorry I took so long to reply
I am currently listening to
and
. Big difference in the two but I just finished two audiobooks that were very similar and it would get confusing.
Listening to Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead. Love the raspy voice of the female reader. It's a good story.
This should also go under the Currently reading thread. Contagious is just a great read. Love the characters and a good story to boot
This more about what I am not listening to.I wanted to reread Boy's Life but Audible .com only has the abridged version. 2.5 hours long can you imagine shrinking that book into such a short length of time?
Good grief! I can't imagine any book shrunk down like that. I'm listening to Lord of the Rings trilogy. Only on the first one though since I just listen in my car.
right now, fsu kicking the crap out of maryland
I don't follow those teams and am not sure if you're for or against this ass kicking, but good luck to your team. I returned Lord of the Rings because it wasn't interesting. Guess I'm one of those who prefers the movie version, which I normally don't do.
I am now getting off work earlier in the evening and get to pick my son up at my mom's and take him home instead of my husband doing this. So I thought I'd check out an audiobook safe enough for him to listen to. We're listening to Ramona the Pest (a favorite of mine since childhood) and he's loving it. It's read by Stockard Channing and she's doing a phenomenal job of narrating.
My 8-year-old son and I listened to Ramona the Pest and now we're on to Ramona Forever. The series is read by Stockard Channing and she is fabulous!

"What do you think so far? I can't believe Richards is still alive after reading his book.
I loved it, too. I would play the Stones music when I wasn't listening to the audio book. I've never seen the Rolling Stones in concert, it's now on my bucket list!
75 % thru Snow White Must Die this is the best thiller/mystery in the vein of Dragon Tatoo. German author I believe this is the fourth in a series but first to be translated into English.
Good grief. My son and I haven't been in the car much and we're still listening to Ramona and Her Mother.

I'm listening to We Have Always Lived in the Castle. It's awesome, so far.It is narrated by the same lady, Bernadette Dunn, who narrated The Haunting of Hill House. She does a good job.
The only problem is as she's narrating WHALINC, the voice is the same voice as Eleanor from Hill House! :)
