What Books Are You Listening To?
The voice of the pretty selfish girl who dies seems so true to charter which is novel, funny, and weird. I mean, it's just a voice with an accent from some part of England but as soon as I heard it I could picture that blonde woman - It was like, "Yup that's her!"
Charlene wrote: "I set aside Elvis Costello, (geez, the man can talk!), to listen to Patti Smith's M Train."Patti Smith is one interesting dame. I need to read her bio. Love Costello's music.
Lena wrote: "Just started The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America"I am one of the few who didn't care for this dry story, even though H.H. Holmes is never a dull boy, and I love the history of things like the World's Fair. But all put together in one book it just didn't work for me.

Y'all should listen to Scott's podcasts. I LOVED listening to him read Nocturnal and his Infected series.
I am STILL listening to The Goldfinch. The problem with checking out a long book from my library's Overdrive is that it's hard for me to finish it in three weeks, and I have to keep rechecking it out and downloading it. Gah!

"I haven't read this book in ages, and never thought about listening to it. Should be interesting. Have you read his The Girl of the Sea of Cortez? It's so unlike Jaws but I remember it being a beautiful read decades ago.
Tressa, I liked it but didn't love because I thought it just gave a careful historians taste of something remarkable.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Thanks for linking your review, Lena. Overall I think it could have been more...tantalizing? I know that makes me sound ghoulish but I so wanted the history of the fair and the horrifying acts of Holmes to be a five star read. Didn't know it was going to be a movie. Maybe that'll be better. On another note, have you seen the Holmes documentary?

No i might have to check that out. Unless someone like Rice writes about the fair that movie will be our best chance of seeing the The White City.
I'm almost finished with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, then i'll continue with the series.
April wrote: "I'm almost finished with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, then i'll continue with the series."awesome! I'm revisiting them too. I'm on the half blood prince.

I've forgotten so much from the books, I'm so enjoying them again.

I'm on the half blood prince too. omg, when hagrid is crying because that awful spider is dying? I could just cry! I love Hadgrid. I had forgotten how good the goblet of fire was. I watched the movie again before I reread the book and it's probably my least favorite movie. but I love the book!
I love Goblet of Fire movie and book. I'm listening to The Bazaar of Bad Dreams. I'm going to try to review/rate each short story as I finish so I won't forget the details.
Yeah, I started the actual book for the discussion but finished The Goldfinch and thought I'd just go ahead and listen to it since I sometimes enjoy listening to King's newer stuff more than reading it.
I am done with harry Potter. the last book of the re-read/listen season is Eragon which i'lll be starting Monday.
I'm really enjoying most of the stories in King's Bazaar of Bad Dreams. I listened to it painting the bedroom last Thursday and Friday and it really made that chore more enjoyable than normal. Whenever I think of my dining room I will forever think of Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles 'cause that's what I was listening to when I painted it; now the same will go for King and my lilac bedroom.
I found a short story from Stephen King last night where he narrates it live. LT's Theory of Pets
Sad to say in all the years I've read his books, I've never heard his actual voice once.
Last year I listened to The Art of Racing in the Rain and it is excellent. Just mentioning it again because I can't seem to stop thinking about it even after all this time.
I'm listening to the Modern Scholar lecture series A History of Ancient Sparta: Valor, Virtue, and Devotion in the Greek Golden Age. Eventually I'm going to run out of these lectures, not sure what I'll do then.

I LURVED that audio book. So much so, that I doubt reading the book would have had the same effect on me. It's also one of the very few that I may decide to listen to again.
I'm currently listening to the end of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain. It's very funny.
I read Yankee back in college and don't remember much about it, except that I enjoyed it. Charlene, I would have given Art of Racing five stars like you did, but the (view spoiler)

I see where you're coming from, Tressa. That portion didn't bother me much, as far as being realistic goes.
It got to me with respect to the fact that I hated those people. LOL I let myself get taken away by the story and that happens to me so rarely, I was able to let my problems with it go. If that makes any sense.
And yes, poor Enzo didn't deserve any of that!
It didn't ruin the story for me, of course, and I see how important that is to the plot, but I was like, eh, I love all this other stuff but I've read this part of the plot line many times before. No, Enzo didn't and I just never got over that part of something that was so out of character as to be jarring when it happened.
Oddly enough that is on my Want to Read list but it looks like a book I wouldn't even enjoy. But it got a lot of five-star reviews from people whose opinions I trust, so maybe I'll move it up on my list. Can't wait to hear what you think, Charlene.

It's got a Dickens-type Fagin vibe going on right now.
I'm listening to The Terror by Dan Simmons, read by John Lee (Books on Tape). I'm three chapters into it, and I looove the narrator's cute british accent :)
Charlene, I tried listening to Lamora for about ten minutes and some other stuff was going on and I couldn't follow what was happening so I put it aside. I'm listening to Armada read by Wil Wheaton and he's doing a great job of it, although he sounds just like Tim Allen for some reason.
I'm also finished with Lamora now-95%! I've enjoyed it so much, I signed up for the free Audible trial, downloaded the second Lamora book for free, and then canceled. Is that bad? LOL
(They wanted like $40.00+ for this audiobook. Granted it's 25+ hours, but wow. That's a lot!)
I liked Wil Wheaton's narration of Redshirts. He's got a good voice for audiobooks.
Lamora has gotten such rave reviews I know I'll get back to it one day. I don't blame you for canceling Audible's free trial! I looked into it but I just don't get it. You pay every month and still have to buy the stuff? I really don't need to keep an audiobook once I've listened to it. If you liked Redshirts, you ought to read Shatnerquake. I'm not even a fan but I was rolling on the floor reading this book.

It's a lot of fun. I hope you'll pick it up when you're in the mood for something funny and light. And also HELP! A Bear is Eating Me! if you ever get the chance.
Tressa wrote: "It's a lot of fun. I hope you'll pick it up when you're in the mood for something funny and light. And also HELP! A Bear is Eating Me! if you ever get the chance."I've heard that about that bear book! Thanks for the recs.
Just finished Locke Lamora and BRAVO! What fun. :)
