I am absolutely in love with TMI. I like TID but I'm not big into historical settings so that may be why my heart goes with TMI.
The main reason i love TID is because of the historical setting. There's something magical about stories set in a totally different era. I like TMI too, hell i love it. But i prefer TID
Omg tough one!! The end of infernal devices was EPIC I literally cried for a whole day haha but if I have to pick one it would be mortal instruments. I just love clary and jace too much
Infernal Devices hands down after I'm finished with the Of Poseidon series by Anna Banks I'm rereading TID
I love TID, I think they were better. But you still have to read TMI, I just wish she would have stopped at book 3 on that series. -<3 Jem-
Deffo The Infernal Devices for me - I like The Mortal Instruments but for me there's no competition between these 2, TID is 1 of my ultimate favourite books of all time!!!
Definitely the Infernal Devices, I found the characters more likable and the Mortal Instruments book are getting worse: I think she should have stopped with that series after City of Glass.
I like both series, but I guess I lean more towards liking the Infernal Devices series. I like the 1800's time period. Also, I like Jace, but I kinda like his ancestor more (Will)...
Oh no! ....I'll have to say TID. But what does that say about Cassandra Clare that she could write an even better sequel/prequel?! :)
I love them both dearly, but I have to say TID is slightly better in my opinion, but that's only because Will Herondale is there. I think Cassie's writing skills have gotten better since she wrote City of Bones. And even though I love Alec and his relationship with Magnus, my love for Will will always be worryingly strong, so yeah.
I like the infernal devices better. I love all the characters and the plot of TID. Will Herondale is hilarious, and I like how Tessa Gray loves books so much!
I like the mortal instruments too, but I feel that the storyline in City of Lost souls and City of fallen angels are kind of similar, with Jace getting 'possessed'. I don't really like Clary, because I find her a little whiny and useless. I do like Jace when he is sarcastic and funny, Simon, Magnus and Isabelle though.
Just started these books, about 20% done with clockwork angel (haven't read the mortal instruments) is it wrong to start with the infernal devices or is that normal? And I've been looking for a book discussion on just clockwork angel but haven't found one. Was just planning on mentioning how Tessa's love for books really adds to the story so far. She compares them to diamonds and when will takes her to their library she about poops herself. It reminded me of why i read and it really made me smile. I can really relate to Tess in that matter. Also I have a feeling that her necklace (the clockwork angel) has to do with her powers. I don't want to know whether that is right or not and I could be way off but it's just a prediction. I'm already so into this book, so excited to finish it and the whole series including the mortal instruments.
I prefer the Infernal Devices, mainly because I prefer Tessa over Clary. Clary's a little hotheaded and overreacts A LOT and Tessa's relatively levelheaded and sweet-natured. Also, Will and Jem -- want me to SAY MORE?!
Should I start with The Infernal Devices or read The Mortal Instruments first?Or does it not really matter what order they're read in?

Yeah, I think I'll start with TID. I just wasn't sure if I had to read TMI first to understand what's going on.

Yeah, I thin..."
Well, to understand some subtle references, you should start with TID. I personally found it much more satisfying to read TID after City of Heavenly Fire.
OMG the Infernal Devices is the best series I have ever read in my life. #ClockworkPrince4Life It is seriously the best book I have read in my life. I laughed and cried, and I just overall loved it. And when I finally got to read Clockwork Princess I loved it too! But seriously I think TID is way better than The Mortal Instruments...
I know the vast majority of people who finish both series say The Infernal Devices but I prefer The Mortal Instruments. Not sure why. Just something about it resonated with me more. Also... um... I have the weirdest, most uncalled-for crush on Sebastian AUGH I KNOW DON'T JUDGE ME.
The Infernal Devices. But they're pretty close. While the Mortal Instruments has a more driving plot and more action, the Infernal Devices is much more romantic and tearjerking.
