For the January 31st option, would you accept Indian Givers: How the Indians of the Americas Transformed the World? It's obviously about Native Americans but the task description suggests you might want something more biographical of specific American Indians.

Sorry, no. A laird is not the equivalent of a king.

For January, second book (Native American) I think this will work?

The main character is in love with the "Indian Alessandro". At this point they are saying she is half native American herself, but that seems to change? I won't know that for sure until I finish the book, I think. But there are many natives in the book as workers and in the missions -- the book was apparently written originally to make people aware of the plight of the native Americans during this time period.
