Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I decided that since this was a holiday season I should read a contemporary holiday book. I opened A Christmas Box at 3:30 this morning and finished about 5:15 am. Quick & sweet & it teaches a lesson for the holidays.
The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans = 125 pages

Will do. I'm still in the beginning. They just got on the train. "but mom, its for pigs and cows." I already love the innocence of the younger brother.

message 69: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments He is adorable. Andrius, I'd love that boy too. He endures and is strong. I wasn't expecting for the story to turn out like this.

message 70: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (ace_librarian) Hey M.S. I just wanted to thank you for mentioning on one of the discussions that you listen to audiobooks as you work on knitting projects. An idea so simple, yet I would never have thought of it. And can I just say, this idea is brilliant and very much productive on my reading list and my belated Christmas projects! So thanks! =)

message 71: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments You are welcome. I'm a single mother of three boys who don't know how to sit still. I have to find creative ways to expand ME time and knitting while I listen just seemed to be relaxing and productive all at once. I too used it to hammer out some Christmas gifts ;)

message 73: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Ok... I've been picking up crappy, well boring books. So I opened up another to get me out of the rut. It is just tooo early in the year for this!

Eye of the Tempest (Jane True #4) by Nicole Peeler This is the fourth in the Jane True series, the 5th comes out this year!

Counts for 1.) one of the colors red or purplish blue 2.) Further in the series 12x12 3.) US roadtrip - Maine 4.) 300+ pages

{Still Reading}

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert Started in on India. Yes, finally to part/book two! Another rather boring book, with at least pockets of interest.

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Surgery set for Tuesday... Gallbladder I will say goodbye! Thank goodness!

message 76: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments Mmmmm....that is kind of sad to hear about Eat. Pray. Love. I still am debating to pick it up. But right now I am reading already one rather boring book...which I would be further in if I actually really wanted to read it...

Good luck with the surgery! I hope you feel better quickly! Or at least well enough to get some good reading in.

I knew that I would have to take it in chunks. I know everyone's lives are different. But it makes me upset to see her whine so much about her good life. When not only I, but others, have crappy homes, jobs, health & all that but we still smile and make do. Yes, I'm sure we all wish we had better love, better jobs that make us feel good, and all that but to listen to her... I want to slap her. LOL! Shake her and say look all around. If you really hate this, all you have, then stop blithering with suicide and leave.

But I love the description of Italy and the people who she met. It is a catch 22.

I do love to travel and see the world through others eyes. Even if I still want to go there myself. My boyfriend went to Italy about a year after we started dating and I have been dying to go since before then. I am excited to go and see all the beautiful landscapes and tourist attractions. (What can I say I am a little cliche...)

message 79: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Not too much. There is so much history there I don't know why it would not be a stop on the travel list. The India section isn't all that bad. ;)

message 80: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Update:
I went into the hospital early this morning. I had so much pain. They ended up doing the surgery today instead of on Tuesday. I'm still at the hospital. no reading. I can't concentrate but I hope in the long run I'll be better.

message 81: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I'm sure you will, MS! Get better soon!

message 82: by Adam (new)

Adam | 88 comments Yeah, hopefully you'll be back soon, I still want to read The Stand or some other Stephen King with you!

message 83: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I'm still in China. It's been slow going and hard to get onto goodreads. It is banned here. Oh no if you read more then graphic novels with big crested girls with teal hair! But I'll see if I have it on my nook and might be able to start reading the stand if I do: I should be able to get on goodreads more often now.

message 84: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments What is the Mad Scientist reading in China???

I wish I can say I read alot but alas it has been a reading rut that I can't even fathom. UGH... I must have loss of reading energy since I'm not surrounded by my beautiful books!

I have recently started The Vampire's Assistant (Cirque Du Freak, #2) by Darren Shan by Darren Shan & Fragile Eternity (Wicked Lovely, #3) by Melissa Marr by Melissa Marr. It is a slow beginning. If you have suggestions for a fast paced page flipper. Now would be the time! If I can get my hands on it here.

Did finish...
Ink Exchange (Wicked Lovely, #2) by Melissa Marr
Bad Taste in Boys by Carrie Harris
Entwined by Heather Dixon
Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine
Heat Stroke (Weather Warden, #2) by Rachel Caine
& some other ones I can't remember.

message 85: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Started and finished in a day an a half.
Songs For A Teenage Nomad by Kim Culbertson
This one was pretty good. A few predictable things and a few surprising plot twists. Overall, I'm thinking a 3.5

That's cool, I had no idea you were going to China. If you're coming back sometime in the summer, we could certainly wait till then. I would prefer to read it over the summer though, before the Fall semester starts for me.

message 87: by Mad Scientist (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) How was EF?

message 90: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments It was a very quick read. You could finish it in one day on the weekend. And cute. I really liked it. I'm just glad it was cheap. I would of wanted more if it was expensive.

Finished the 13 Little Blue Envelopes (Little Blue Envelope, #1) by Maureen Johnson and loved it! I'm going to see if I can create something like this for the boys to do when we travel. We will be headed off to places I already know but they wont know. Should be fun. Why didn't you make me read this one earlier? LOL!

message 91: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) LOL! I just read it last month myself. I loved it; I'm sure the boys would love it if you did something like this!

And that's good to know. I have two books I want to finish first, then I'll start Epic Fail.

message 92: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I want to get the second book. The Last Little Blue Envelope (Little Blue Envelope, #2) by Maureen Johnson but not sure if I will wait tell I get home and see if I can get it used. Such a quick read, it it was like the first.
