Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 87 comments Has anyone ever seen Soap? It's a 1970's parody series of a soap opera. It has Billy Crystal in one of his first major roles.

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 2775 comments I remember Soap. I wasn't allowed to watch it as a kid. But strangely my mom would let me stay up with her on Friday nights to watch Dallas. LOL

message 3: by Heather (new)

Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 87 comments That is kind of goofy; I would think it would be the other way around.

I watch it with my boyfriend and his grandmother. After Three's Company it's their favourite show.

It's really too bad it wasn't on longer and that the cast were too perfect to possibly do a remake.

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 2775 comments I was probably two completely different ages, but still.....

Soap did have an amazing case in hind sight. (is that spelled right?)

Three's company - there is another good show! Because of that show, I have a pet pieve of people not communicating properly. Everything that happened in that show was due to a misunderstanding!!

message 5: by Heather (new)

Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 87 comments Yeah; Soap was made in the late '70's. Dallas was popular in the early '80's.

You're absolutely right; they used hind sight to their advantage to make an incredible show.

Three's Company was terrific, and communication would have solved most of the problems that the characters were involved in. However, I don't think it would have been quite as funny had good communication occurred.

Trudy (tblaine9) | 105 comments Loved Benson and the dingy lady on soap... Can't remember her name, but I can picture her as clear as day - darn... .I hardly remember it other than it was funny... I am sure it was just background noise for me as I was way young when it was on...

I might have to check it out on DVD... Netflix, here I come...

message 7: by Heather (new)

Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 87 comments Benson was one of the best parts of the show. I think you're remembering Jessica Tate; she was the stupid redhead. Some of the things she said had perfect timing through it all.

It's definitely worth watching; I would recommend it to anyone.

Stacy (sjhensley) | 928 comments I think Soap lasted 3 seasons. I didn't watch it until it was syndicated.

Even though Jessica Tate was hilariously ditzy, her brother-in-law Burt seemed to be her male counterpart. Remember when he thought he was an alien?

I also remember when Jessica and her daughter Corinne were both doing the handsome tennis instructor, played by the gorgeous Robert Urich (RIP). Ah, those were the days.

Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 87 comments Actually it lasted four. I do remember Bert back when he was abducted by aliens.

Corinne and Jesica boffing the tennis instructor was all too classic.

Do you remember when Corinne got pregnant and gave birth in just a two episodes?

Why is it that the classics always beat out the new shows?

Debbie | 43 comments Oh, yes, Soap. Wasn't it great? Jessica was SO ditzy. And I fell in love with Billy Crystal - even though his character was gay. Was his the first gay character on a tv show? I remember watching Soap one time when my aunt was staying with us for a visit. I wondered what she thought of it - if she approved of me wathing it, you know, I was a teenager, but I liked it and my parents let me watch it. My dad liked it so I'm sure that helped that I got to watch it.

message 11: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 43 comments I didn't mean anything by "even though his character was gay" Don't anyone take offense, because I certainly didn't mean anything derogatory!

message 12: by Holli (new)

Holli LOL...you are too cute Debbie! I got what you meant. That even though he was playing a gay man on the show you still thought he was cute? ;)

message 13: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 43 comments Exactly!

message 14: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) I love this show! Billy Crystal was my favorite, I've loved gay characters since I was a kid, now I read a bunch of slash. lol

Is this out on DVD yet? I would love to get it.

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 87 comments The entire series is out on DVD. My boyfriend's grandmother has all four seasons.

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) Fantastic!

message 17: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments I own all 4 seasons on DVD and I watch it whenever I need to laugh or feel better about my life! I thought the comic timing of Robert Guillaume as Benson and Katherine Helmond as Jessica was perfect! I also own the first season of "Benson" on DVD and wish they would release more!
If anyone is a fan of Robert Guillaume on those 2 shows, you will love him on "Sports Night"!

message 18: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments THis was such a fun show. And I remember the BIG controversy that Billy Crystal's character was gay... THank goodness times have changed. I have the first two seasons on DVD

message 19: by Debbie (new)

message 20: by Leshawn (new)
