Welcome to the group, Patrick.
Several of our members have enjoyed Blood & Tacos # 1, a homage to the men's adventure books of those decades. Sounds like you might like them as well. You can read for free here - http://www.bloodandtacos.com/issue-1-...

Melki are you on commision for those guys yet? :D
No - Kemper started it, and Alberto showed me the read-for-free link. They get all the kickbacks.

Well, I have you to thank for it, Melki! Maybe you should be...

I'm wondering what you consider pulp here. Is it just detective/crime stories or do you lump in all serialized stories in pulp magazines? I'm thinking of Edgar Rice Burroughs and some of the sci-fi stories.

Mike Shayne is a forgotten noir hero, but I guess you can blame his author for allowing other people to write under his pseudonym. Those later ones just aren't the same.

Right on. The later Shayne books are almost unreadable even though they have delightfully cheesey photo covers.

Hope you are having a fun Friday!

"The same week our fowls were stolen, Daphne Moran had her throat slit"
it's your typical small town tale of incest and necrophillia. Best of all this is typically assigned in NZ high school English classes when you're 16! Not sure how available it is in the USA, but if you can track a copy down you'll have a great read in store.

I'm looking forward to chatting with some like-minded folks and getting some excellent recommendations from you folks!

Anyone who combines a love of noir with a love of The Doctor is always welcome, in my opinion!

Hah - thanks!

Some of my favorite authors include Robert B. Parker, Donald Westlake, Robert Crais, Lee Child. I also write crime fiction novels with a dark, humorous edge.

Been following goodreads on twitter but just signed up, so I'm still figuring things out.
I have read everything I could get my hands on by Raymond Chandler and Ross MacDonald

I've found the right club.
Welcome to the group, Steve and Melissa. I'm sure you'll find plenty of good reading suggestions here.
Hello I'm Lynne and I live in the foothills of the Pyrenees in south-west France. By profession I'm a translator/proofreader and I'm very happy to have come across goodreads!

Thanks, Melki :)

Hi from Bangkok, Thailand.
I like Chandler and Hammemt and the noir detective style. I am also a big fan of James Hadley Chase for his skill with plot.
I also write pulp fiction, but am not here to promote myself or anything like that. Just looking for new books to enjoy.
Welcome, James. The authors you mentioned are BIG favorites with this group. You should feel right at home.

I've toiled most of my career in episodic TV writing including mysteries like Simon and Simon and Magnum P.I. and the scifi miniseries V: The Final Battle.
Now I write noir. My agent's trying to sell my first novel, Go Down Hard, and I'm halfway through the second, Go Down Screaming.
I've got a short story up on Amazon if anyone wants to get it for their Kindle, or I'd be happy to send the PDF to anyone in this group for free if you subscribe to my blog at CraigFaustusBuck.com and send me a note to remind me.
If you do subscribe, don't worry about being overloaded. I'm one of those lazy bloggers who gets around to posting something once every two or three months.
Cheers,
Craig Faustus Buck

My name is Ismael "Ish," nice to meet you all. Noir is one of my favorite genres. It seems like the influence has always been around me since I was a kid but I never actually noticed it until my late 20's. Since this realization, I've been grabbing classic titles like crazy; Chandler, Cain, Hammett, and the rest of the giants.
Charles Bukowski is one of my all time favorites. I've read almost all his books. I'm not sure if he's completely welcomed into the school of hard boiled, but his writing has that tough, solitary feeling that I think qualifies him. I hope to start some threads on his writing.
I joined because I want to make friends who like Noir, and add all the gems to my "to-read" list. Also I'm very interested in learning about musicians who got that Noir style. Movies, art, everything, I want to hear about it.
I wrote my first book. It's not Noir work but it definitely has those elements. More of a bizarre tale filled with violence and absurd comedy. If there are any reviewers out there, please get at me.
Feel free to friend me!

Glad to be here, hope to find some new pals and some new writers to indulge in.

"Hammett stands forever atop the bloody pile"
Hehe thats great line, more of Hammett fans to tell that to Chandler fans here :)
