Hi to Philippa, Heather, Dan and Mohammed. This is rapidly shaping up to be a fine group; I really should spend more time here!

Pulp Fiction is definitely a new genre for me, but I will give it a try. The premise is intriguing and I suspect that you guys will bring forward the classics for us neophytes? I tend to be wandering in the lit of the classics (W. canon), but try to reach out into world lit as well a bunch of nonfiction. I cannot resist SF and Fantasy at times. My older brother was a huge fan of Chandler so I guess I can blame him for joining up. Ha ha!

I'm Jim, another fan of the genre for over 40 years, since I found my father's stash of Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, & Mickey Spillane - an author my grandfather hated & made me want to read even more. I have all the Hard Case Crime books until they changed publishers a year or so ago.Oh & thanks for inviting me, Dan.
Hello everyone. Got an invite to join this group by Alberto. Wonderful to see so many blokes out here who are Noir fans. I read books encompassing various genres (My reading tastes are pretty extensive although I don't read as much as all you guys seem to) but the Hard-Boiled genre is obviously, my most favourite along with Espionage. My favourites would be James Hadley Chase,Chester Himes and the holy trinity of American Hard-Boiled Crime(Hammett,Chandler and Macdonald. Also love Lawrence Block.
Would love to pick most of the brains here. :-)
Hey, Cyndi checking in...thanks for the invite Melki.Love pulp fiction in all its forms..books, graphic novels, film and lifestyle.
Cannot wait to jump in with the January 2012 group read. This is gonna be great fun!!
Hello! I like crime, mystery, suspense - and after 20 pages of The Long Goodbye - love Raymond Chandler. Being from the Los Angeles area when a story mentions streets you've driven on or past it adds a whole new dimension. This sounds like a great club - looking forward to the recommendations - thanks!
I'm really looking forward to participating in this group. Raymond Chandler has been a long time favourite of mine and enjoying his books led onto reading more and more pulp fiction. An ongoing addiction I'm in no hurry to cure :-).
Hello everyone! I'm Kathleen, an engineer with an unrelenting book-habit. :D
I sort of stumbled into pulp fiction, particularly detective stories from the early 1900's, when we read the Maltese Falcon for a genre-lit course in college. Chandler's and Hammett's works definitely turned me on to the entire mystery/thriller genre (more so than the British cozies).
Looking forward to reading even more pulp fiction with this group!
New to this group but crime that makes me check and recheck my doors, fasten my windows and listen to the sounds inside and out my house, is the crime I most prefer. I think I will like it here.
Hello!I never had to look for a community of book-lovers, until I came up with this idea yesterday: http://storiesaboutbooks.tumblr.com/
So I'm being honest about it :)
Will be great to hear your 'stories about books.'
Welcome, Mickey. It's a great place & I don't often waste time on bad books any more. I have the opposite problem - too many friends here with similar reading tastes, so my To-Be-Read pile overfloweth! (Actually looms & threatens to crush me!)

Haha, my reading list is already full to the brim, and my life + your life is not sufficient. Must prioritize :P.
Thanks for the welcome!
Hi, I haven't read anything in this genre, but it looks interesting. I looked at the first few pages of The Big Sleep and got hooked. I'll probably buy it.I do some writing. You can see what I'm up to on my author page.

Hi, I'm Garrett Cook, an author of horror and Bizarro fiction, often with noir and pulp elements. I'm passionate about 30's and 40's comics, film noir, vintage horror and hardboiled detectives and all these elements tend to come together in my fiction. My favorite authors in the genre are Cain and Chandler, and for nondetective pulp, Lovecraft, Bloch, Howard and Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Hi, I'm Lee. I enjoy all kinds of fiction but am most drawn to darker work and find crime (the fiction, not the actual) very satisfying. Some favorite contemporary authors are Tom Piccirilli, Dennis Lehane, John Connolly, Ed McBain, Lawrence Block, Donald Westlake, and pretty much everything that the Hard Case Crime group has published. I just interviewed Tom Piccirilli on my website too. I always enjoyed his Horror fiction but his crime work cuts right to the bone: http://www.leethompsonfiction.com/?p=547
Look forward to finding some new books/authors!
Hi guys! Welcome to the group.
Garrett - feel free to head to the Writer's Corner and tell us about your book.

Hey everybody,Wanted to join this group when I noticed that the next group read is The Devil All the Time. I loved Knockemstiff and TDATT has been on my too read shelf for awhile now.
A little about me...
I've been writing dark fiction since 2002 and have seen a little success here and there. I've got an MA (not MFA) in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama Birmingham. Being from the South I tend to write stories that might be considered Southern gothic or Southern crime. Either way, most of my stuff edges into what most people would consider horror.
I'm in a long standing writing group called Snutch Labs (heh). It's got some supremely talented folks in it that are going to be big one day, and I feel pretty lucky that they haven't kicked me out yet.
In 2010, I landed an agent, Beth Fleisher, of Clear Sailing Creatives. She's a wonderful agent and editor and is currently shopping my dark young adult novel, Slip.
In March, my first collection of short fiction will be published by Chizine Publications. It's called Shoebox Train Wreck, and you can now find it on goodreads.
That's about it. Looking forward to getting to know you guys and reading some interesting posts.

Hi! My name is Autumn, and I am from Alabama. After reading your posts, I would say I am new to the pulp genre. I have always loved detective shows, and grew up reading detective books. It all started with Nancy Drew and the love affair grew. These days I love Karin Slaughter and Val McDermid. My mother asked me last week, “Why do you like this kind of stuff?” I laughed because it is so different from my personality. I am bubbly and outgoing, but I love books that are dark and, at times, grisly. I look forward to seeing all the discussions and finding new books to read.

As for reading dark stuff, I've long stopped trying to explain my fascination to people who just don't get it. I think it's just the way I'm wired.
Welcome to the group, John and Autumn.
Great news about your books, John. I'm reading Knockemstiff now.
