"Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought."
Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Example: The Theory of Relativity
There are many of us kicking around the GR sand boxes that don’t follow the stench of man made climate change. Climate change sure, man made climate change, eh, prove it.
I am more interested in how we will live with the change not some hype about why it is happening.

Nick... prove that it is NOT at least in part (and by part I mean a significant part) human caused.
What percentage of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere were injected via human action?
Off the top of my head I believe the numbers were (.02%) And yes that is the millions of tones of carbon and all that.
I don't believe that is enough to alter our environment in any meaningful way. But Nick, It doesn't need to change that much to cause drastic changes. True very true. But I still believe this is the nature and the norm of planetary climate change.
Another thing to look at is that our increase in temp couples perfectly with the temp increases displayed throughout all the other planets in the Sol system. So if you expect me to believe with no proof that it is us and not the sun, then that means you expect me to believe the other 8 planets house man made factories pumping out greenhouse gases.
Ok so that last line was a bit snarky but do you see where I am going? Without real proof, not some half baked poorly researched explanation, I will not sign on to the hype.
But this thread is about quotes and there application to our lives today... so I will try and come up with one.

AL GORE, speech at National Sierra Club Convention, Sept. 9, 2005
Example: In direct contradiction to Timothy F. Ball, former Professor of Geography, University of Winnipeg: "[The world's climate:] warmed from 1680 up to 1940, but since 1940 it's been cooling down. The evidence for warming is because of distorted records.
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
— Douglas Adams
Do I need to give examples? I think it is pretty obvious.

Hey, I'm Buddhist, insert you're own tasteless self-immolation joke here...

Sir Winston Churchill
Example: The Iraq War
I keep meaning to dig up some good quotes... I draw a complete blank and forget about it. Then you pop up; drop a bomb, and I'm all... well shit I should have said that.
::shakes fist at Arminius::

— Saint Thomas Aquinas
Example: 2008 United States elections.

Friedrich Nietzsche
Example: May I dare say the U.S. elections again.
We yell about high oil and gas and then we vote for the person who will not drill for oil and will put a cap and trade system on the nations greatest source of energy -coal.
I know, enough with politics.

Where does that assumption come from? Is there anything that says he is able to do anything about it>?
Nick, McCain had a history of being a deregulator, which seems to have been one of the causes of this banking meltdown. Plus, he said that economics wasn't his strong point during an interview.
Arminius... maybe you can stop putting so much energy into being a sore loser, and give the man the next four years to show us what he's got, before you start calling those of us (the majority) who voted for him "insane" and "unreasonable".
Personally, I'm not really in the mood to be insulted after living with the retard George W. Bush for the past 8 years without so much as saying ONE nasty thing about the people who voted him in.

I don't know if I can give a perfect example of how Obama is qualified, but I was impressed at his campaign organization, which raised a heck of a lot of money, and spent it wisely.
When the financial meltdown happened, I was impressed that he didn't panic, but instead consulted experts to get up to speed on the situation very quickly. He values knowledge, and he's a quick study.
Lastly, I like his tax plan, and his reasoning behind it.
What I hope he does is find qualified experts who will know how to deal with the economy, and use them and the power of government regulation to find the solution. And I think he can do just that.

Applies to every bureaucratic organization out there.

Laurence J. Peter
Example: The occupation given plus the science forecasters.

The Talmud
Example: Reading opposing views on Goodreads discussions.

Peter Ustinov
Example: The break up of the AT&T monopoly in 1982.

H. L. Mencken
Example: Minnesotans whom voted for Al Franken.
The United States is a nation of laws: badly written and randomly enforced.
Frank Zappa (1940 - 1993)
1) In Alabama, it is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded while driving a vehicle.
2) In Ohio, it is against state law to get a fish drunk.
3) In Miami, Florida, it is illegal to skateboard in a police station.
4) In Florida, unmarried women who parachute on Sundays can be jailed.
5) In Kentucky, it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon more than six-feet long.
6) In Boulder, Colorado, it is illegal to kill a bird within the city limits and also to “own” a pet – the town’s citizens, legally speaking, are merely “pet minders”.
7) In Vermont, women must obtain written permission from their husbands to wear false teeth.

All right, and number 7 and 4.
I hope number 1 isn't randomly enforced. I'm for zero tolerance on that one.
what's ridiculous about 1 is that it even *has* to be a law.
who would want to get a fish drunk? how did it become a law?
how does one go about carrying a concealed weapon over 6 feet long?
what if you wanted to raise chickens in Boulder? would you have to take the chickens out of town to kill them? how about plucking their feathers and cooking them? do they not have any chicken for sale in their local markets? idiots.
7 just makes me think some guys really like their blow jobs.

"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
Arthur Schopenhauer
