This book (possibly illustrated) was about a young boy who (possibly) ran away into the forest and met some tiny humans (he may have been shrunk to their size, i'm not sure). There was a monster(?) with a name similar to the Jabbywocky that the little humans were afraid of, the boy stayed the night with them. This was a children's book, at least 17 years old.

This sounds like something I read, but there the boy was stolen as a baby -- definitely not the one you're looking for?
Um, I had a feeling that he went into the forest himself, but I could be wrong..
