Well, one is the illustrated version (which is how it should be read, IMO!) and the other is just the text. Is that enough to separate them?
Ah, okay, thanks for pointing that out! Somehow I must have overlooked that little part. xDAlso, not sure... is it that different of a book that it needs to be separated?
I'm not sure. Contrary to popular belief, the original edition of Stardust is not a graphic novel; it is a prose story with pictures. I'd think they should be combined, but I could be wrong.
The first listing appears to be for the Graphic Novel adaptation. The second is for the original novel. Graphic novel adaptations are not combined with the original work.
This: Neil Gaiman & Charles Vess' Stardust is a graphic novel adaptation of Gaiman's book. It should be kept separate (and currently is).
I don't think it is a graphic novel, if you go to the book on Amazon and look inside, it shows that the book is prose with illustrations (the illustrations didn't scan well or something, but you can see the spaces where they should be). There is also a sample here from DC Comics that shows the same.
Also, if you look at the Wikipedia entry for Stardust, it says "Stardust (1998) is the first solo prose novel by Neil Gaiman. It is usually published as a novel with illustrations by Charles Vess." AND "Gaiman retains the copyright to the text and in 1999 decided, encouraged by publisher Avon, to publish Stardust as a conventional novel in hardback without illustrations"
I'd say they can/should be combined.
Okay, I have done a little more investigation. The publisher of the illustrated version (DC/Vertigo) lists the book with their 'graphic novels', which may be leading to the confusion, especially since they traditionally print comics/graphic novels and not illustrated books.http://www.dccomics.com/vertigo/graph...
I looked at the preview sample available at the Vertigo site (linked above) and compared it to text in the novel using Amazon's look inside feature. The text appears identical, with only difference being the presence of illustrations.
Therefore, in this one case the should probably be combined. However, I would remove the words 'Graphic Novel' from the illustrated editions. Instead, the words 'Illustrated Edition' should be added to the edition field for those editions. A librarian note explaining why these items are combined (when 'graphic novels' usually aren't combined with the text novel) would probably be a good idea.
The two versions being same text is also confirmed by Wikipedia:

Ok...it said there was an error, but it seems to have worked anyway. I also edited the "graphic novels" to "illustrated editions."
...except for this one:http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/68...
It keeps giving me a problem with the date of publication.
Because the pub date for the edition was earlier than the listed pub date for the work.
I fixed it.
I fixed it.
