Heard good reviews about along the lines of "better than I expected". I'll be watching and recapping it since I let myself be talked into a group recap thing planned by a German blogger. Signed up for Once Upon a Time and Grimm since they were both on my To Watch list and I liked that they're somewhat related.

Well you could say many of our best stories are blatant fable rip-offs-- Tolkien from the Scandinavian Sagas, Shakespeare from Greek mythology, Harry Potter from just-about-everything,CS Lewis' from "Till We Have Faces" was a re-telling of the Psyche and Eros myth, ...and Grimms' fairy tales were compiled from folklore...

Yeah, I was referring to the comics series which is *very* similar. And yes, at one point someone was planning a television show, but it's been dead for a long time now. And between this and the similar Grimm, it's safe to assume we'll never see one now.

Watched it with the wife, we both enjoyed it. I had low expectations and was pleased to like it as much as I did. There was a time or two where the fairy tale world wasn't working for me, but the "real world" was right on.

I'll watch it at some point tomorrow. I have a spot or two open to watch another show so we'll see if this and another makes the list.

We watched it too. My wife thought it was okay. I thought it was terrible. But I blame that on the fact that I've read Fables. Same concept, better in every possible way.

How would you rate is as compared with someone who hasn't read Fables?

Well, if it's any consolation, I'll probably read the first Fables volume.

Watched it in advance on IMDB. It wasn't bad but with low expectations that's not saying much. I'll watch a few more episodes to see where it goes but I'm not confident.

I enjoyed the first episode and I'm looking forward to watching the 2nd one tonight. My only worry is that its going to go the way of heroes; they have a specific story to tell and when that's up it jumps the shark hard

I'm not too worried about that. The writers are the same ones from Lost and after telling the story they wanted to tell the show ended.

American TV is starting to get better about ending shows when it's time. Battlestar Galactica is a perfect example of this. Four seasons and it had never been more popular. They could have kept it going but then ended it.

You are kidding right ? Lost went about 4 seasons too long :)

Once Upon... Looks good after the pilot - but - teasers for the second episode make it look like to me that, like Lost, it will make the fatal mistake of telling more backstory than it does advancing the plot.

I actually liked the backstories in Lost. My biggest complaint with most shows is that they don't actually take the time to develop the characters and, instead, just put in filler to pad out episodes because most people aren't willing to take the time.

I truly did not want to like this, and was about to drop it from the dvr schedule but oh man, episode two was so cheesy and good, I felt like I was eating homemade macaroni and cheese. The line about Maleficent being the queen's only friend and everything having to do with Rumplestiltskin is just perfectly giggle worthy. It is easily my number three show this season.

Have Scott or Julie gotten you to listen to The Reapers Are the Angels? Great audiobook, great protagonist who fits the bill.

I like OUaT as a premise but some of the details bug me. Mostly details from the fairytale part. Stupid things like perfectly graded roads... Just details that scream of "we didn't have the budget".

However, it works because so many of the core actors are really good.

I am kind of excited about this show, sure it's slightly hard to digest when you look at the "craft" of acting, but overall I am watching it to be entertained.
