The Thirteenth Tale
question
Who do you think was the father of Adeline and Emmeline? Robert March or Charlie Angelfield?

I think that Robert March was the father, but Charlie also could have been.

i think it was charlie angelfield. how else would vida be identical too?
Although paternity was not clearly established, the uneasy feeling I had reading about the relationship between siblings is a strong indicator. I suspected it was Charlie.
Hmmm. I think I am with Kellymcct, Nastaha on this one. I got some strange vibes and think it might have been Charlie!
I definitely was given the impression that Charlie Angelfield fathered the twins.
I also believe the father was Charlie. As disturbing as that is, it does follow the whole plot with him.
It was Charlie. It was alluded to throughout the book, and Vida would not have looked like the twins if he wasn't the father of all three.
I believe Charlie Angelfield was their father. He had a very abnormal relationship with his sister, Isabelle, and I truly believe that's why Emmeline was retarded because she was a product of incest. And Adeline's vicious anger and fits of rage definitely had Charlie written all over her. She was just as nuts as Charlie. I found it very interesting that Vida was the Twins' cousin and not one of the twins. This book had so many twists and turns and I loved it.
My only gripe with the book is that it could have ended much earlier than it did, but it didn't matter, because the author gave updates as to what happened to the characters. I think where I got thrown off was the bones found on the Angelfield property. Were those bones Hester? Or Isabelle? Perhaps she wasn't in the insane asylum as was reported?
I wasn't clear on the bones. Does anyone have any insight on that?

The bones were the remains of whichever twin died in the fire. Although Vida presented herself as Adeline, I believe that Adeline was the twin who survivied, and Emmeline died in the fire. It was her bones that were found in the ruins of the house.
