Suzy | 7 comments Something interesting that I came across is a new web series called "Novel Adventures."

This new collaboration between online media, novels and brands seems to be very interesting and may open up a whole new way to interact with books we've read and loved. The series follows 4 women who are members of a book club through real adventures inspired by books they've read. The show will have interactive areas for people to suggest books to based their new adventure on as well as discuss the show itself.

What are your opinions about this new web series?

I think it would be super fun to be able to live out adventures based on some great books.

Suzy | 7 comments Here is the actual site: http://www.cbs.com/noveladventures/

After seeing the video for it, I feel it seems trashy. It looks like a long bachelorette party instead of the great concept of living some great adventures based off some awesome books. It premiers November 3rd, so we'll see how successful it actual is.

WOW. That looks really lame. What was the point of having a book club if you didn't enjoy reading enough to just sit there and talk about reading like we do?

I was thinking more like, you read The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and then

a) visit the Dominican Republic

b) learn to talk the talk and walk the walk like Beli, in a DR Chinese restaurant

c) read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy novels/comic books/graphic novels and then try to write your own

So, if the N.A. ladies actually went on an adventure for this book it would be to

a) visit the Dominican Republic

b) go out drinking and partying with gangsters and get pregnant like Beli? (not a spoiler, I swear)

c) get kidnapped and possibly shot at or beaten half to death? (not a spoiler, I'm not saying who and most people probably already assume this, because he talks about the D.R. during Trujillo's reign as dictator)

d) fall in love with a whore? (ok, that's a spoiler, sorta)

People, just read books and think about them. Then get some other people who read the same book and talk about it together. Not as boring as it sounds, in fact it's one of my favorite things to do, and the main reason I'm on this site!

OMG I just realized something. There was a guy a couple of weeks ago who came in looking for books to shoot a commercial with. He needed 4 copies each of

[image error] The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston [image error] and The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry: Love, Laughter, and Tears at the World's Most Famous Cooking School by Kathleen Flinn

but the last one was only available in paperback... he bought them anyway.

The books you see in the promo came from *my store*!!! I *touched* those books and look what they did with them.

AAAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! (picture Peanuts-character-style Alethea with mouth wide open and yelling)

Ok, I'm just gonna go and read a book now...

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 172 comments Alethea does that mean your are an accomplice to novel assassination?!

Meme (mstylp) | 519 comments Alethea you are a women after my own heart, if I didn't have this site to talk about all my books I would probably go crazy.

My family does not understand the addiction that I have and they do not want to here about all my book (believe me I can talk for a long while on a book and not notice,) I just with I lived closer so I could do it in person.

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 172 comments Where's the Commander to pass judgement on Alethea?

Ah if I didn't have my friend Melissa to conpolitely convince to try the books I am obsessing over I would be a sorry sack indeed. I had to hide my addiction all throughout school (though they found out when my 9th grade history teacher busted me reading an Elizabeth Peters book!).

Suzy | 7 comments oh I'm so disappointed in a great idea carried out poorly. I can't believe you gave him the books Alethea! But if it wasn't you he would have found someone else to continue the show with.

Well, he paid for them :) I just hope they didn't get returned :(

They already shot the show, they just needed to shoot the ad.

Drew | 12 comments Well I think it's an amazing idea. I was thinking about doing the same thing with the book I'm reading. It's Anne Rice's The Witching Hour. I was going to start by having a near death experience at the beach, then become a raging alcoholic, somehow between those two things develop a psychic ability, then go to New Orleans and find an old catatonic woman with really dark hair who's believed to be a witch. Now I just have to track down an ordained Priest and a confused doctor to help me...Well, I got a lot on my plate right now, so please excuse me if I don't have time to post for a while. Maybe I should start off with something a little easier. Stephen King? I'm sure I can find an angry car to kill all my friends and come after me in the night.

Alethea--I don't know why you would be against this, considering we've been planning this Poison Study 'adventure' for forever.

Top 10 books I'd like to see them adventure:

1. Carrie
2. The Diary of Anne Frank
3. Jurassic Park
4. When Rabbit Howls
5. Roots
6. Lolita
7. Ordinary People
8. The Chocolate War
9. Death in Venice
10. Flowers for Algernon

Oh! Definitely Roots. and possibly Atlas Shrugged. We can go bring down a struggling nation while swindling captains of industry out of millions of dollars. Probably billions, with inflation. or The Painted Veil--move to China, attempt to cure cholera, and die a miserable vomity death. Don't forget to have an affair with an ambassador.

I am *so* in.

If I take a year off school and work we can do The Series of Unfortunate Events.

I don't object to the idea, just to the cheesiness. If they're going to do this, they've gotta really do it!

message 14: by Drew (new)

Drew | 12 comments Well I've already promised to be Piggy in Lord of the Flies so we need to do The Series of Unfortunate Events ASAP!

message 15: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 172 comments ah so the issue isn't that they are doing this, but that they are not committed to doing it properly!

its so sad to see hollywood isn't willing to go that extra mile. I mean I for one would have LOVED to see a reality show about...>.< sadly I can't think of anything right now my head is so muddled from cough meds. insert appropriate sentiments above!
