Heather, you're referring to The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian? I'd not realized he could write cleanly enough for younger people... but then, I realized, I'd gotten him and W. P. Kinsella combined in my head! Ok, so definitely the Alexie book is on my priority list! :)

It is a YA book and I really enjoyed it. A fast read even for tweens. At first I thought it would be good for kids 11+ but changed my mind to 13+. Some mature topics are in the book, alcoholism, death, drunk driving. Part of live on the "rez" as the main character would say. IMO, it always depends on the child if they are ready to read about certain topics.
Thanks for clarifying Heather. I suspect I'm a bit overprotective. I'll definitely read it myself before deciding what age to recommend it to. :)
I started One for the Money yesterday. Just on page 9, but I can already tell that I will enjoy this series. You were right, Heather - thanks!!
I'm reading How to Read the Air right now but after this (over Thanksgiving) I'm going to start my "other" challenge book for this month The Bluest Eye. Another one of those "shoulda reads" that has been sitting on my shelf mocking me.
Today I finished One for the Money
, picked for me by Heather. I gave it ★★★★★. Heather, you were absolutely right -- I am hooked on the series!

It was o..."It was a very special experience to share that reading with you and I'd like to thank Michelle as well for choosing [Book: Tolstoy and The Purple Chair] for your November challenge!
It's absolutely freezing here tonight and Mr Kat has man flu, so I'm about to creep off to bed - I always do my best reading there!Good luck with East of Eden - it's on my long unread list of classics to tackle!
Judy wrote: The movie trailer looks interesting and funny.
I'm looking forward to the movie now. I waited until I finished the book before watching the trailer.
Judy wrote: "Glad to hear! I won't bother you anymore, so you can get back to your reading. As for me, I need to jump back into East of Eden."Isn't this book wonderful.
Judy wrote: "Love it! Have you ever read a Steinbeck that you didn't like? He is a master of characterization IMO."We had to read a couple of the short ones at high school - Of Mice & Men and The Pearl, and I think I read Cannery Row or Tortilla Flat. I hated them. What does he have to say to women? I know I've not read much
but I suspect a modonna whore complex - the women were cardboard cutouts.
I've completed the book I was assigned for this challenge, Only Time Will Tell and will give it 4 stars. It was engaging enough to keep me turning the pages until the very last one. It's a good thing I had all that travel time to allow me to finish it in one day.The end was a jolting cliffhanger. How unfair! The sequel hasn't been written yet! Grrrr! Apparently, this was the first book in a trilogy.

Jane, so glad you liked these. She is quite a character. Gritty New Jersey too. Now your hooked:)
I've just finished The Tenth Gift chosen for me by Diana.I did like this book, although it felt a little drawn-out in some parts. It was an interesting combination of history, embroidery and travel. Three and a half stars!
How is everyone doing on this challenge? There's one day left! :) Oooo, that means I have one day left to do up badges.
These people haven't reported whether or not they have finished their book. Please let me know if you've completed the challenge. If I've missed your report, I'm sorry.Karen is Faithful Place
Amy is September
Diana is The Bird Sisters
Michelle is Lost & Found
Amber is Those Who Save Us
Oooh Amber, leaving it til the last minute ;-) I thought it would be me doing that!I'll be looking forward to hearing what you think of it!
Amber wrote: "Mission accomplished! 5 stars! So glad you picked this one for me, Kat! I'm definitely in for another challenge like this one--having someone else pick a book from my TBR list for me."
Yay! I loved that one too!
I thought you had likely finished your book, Michelle. But I couldn't find a mention of it in the thread. :)
Sorry for taking so long to get this badge up. This time there is one badge - a participation badge. There were no points awarded this time. Everyone who participated may download this badge, post it on your profile or wall of fame thread, or do with it as you wish. Judy, could you tell us how you moved the challenge badges over to the wall of fame folder? I know how to post an image but I'm wondering if you have an easier way.
