The book I'm looking for was a collection of scary stories, I think they were "supposedly true" but I could be confusing that with another book I read as a kid. I read this over and over in middle school so it would have been published no later than the mid-eighties. It's possible it was an "Even More Scary Stories" type of collection. I think the cover was green and yellow but could be wrong. I do remember quite a few of the stories though-maybe this will spark some memories. Some of the stories were a little creepy and some were downright horrifying.

-In one story a young girl is in a hospital after breaking a bone and she sees a ghost of a woman carrying a candle. She asks a nurse and she tells her the ghost is rumored to be a nurse who visits patients before they die.

-There was a story a think called "Dead Man's Hill" or something like that where a group of boys go on a bike ride and wind up beaten and battered by the invisible ghost that haunts the area. There may have been something about someone dying there.

-A family moves in to a house an are repeatedly troubled by an old woman who keeps knocking on their door-they finally let her in and it turns out she's a ghost who used to live there. She's a nice ghost though and just wants to hang out in her old house.

-Another family keeps smelling something in their new home and one night the parents go out and come home to find their two teenage children huddled in the corner having been traumatized by some violent ghost who came while the parents were out.

That's as much as I can remember. Thanks!!

Joanie | 66 comments No, it's not that. Although the patchwork monkey sounds intriguing!
